I have a huge phobia of sharks, so getting into these waters wasn't easy for me but I assure you if you have the same concerns, you're more likely to get attacked by a donkey in the Virgin Islands than by a shark.
Diamond Reef is part of the Queens Park on the British Side, off of Great Camanoe island. It's right next to scrub island and Marina Cay and I've never seen so much sea life before under water. I don't believe that you can get to this area via road, only by boat but if you love snorkeling plan a trip out. We saw lots of colorful blue and yellow fish that look like dory from finding nemo, massive tarpon, schools of hundreds of tiny fish and so much undisturbed bright coral, it was unreal.
There seems to be a designated snorkeling area from the string of buoys to the destroyed dock and the water there was between 25ft to 10 ft deep.
Many private yachts dock on the other side of the channel and pop over for snorkeling/scuba.
If you're wondering of whether or not it's called diamond reef because there are diamonds here you're close. Apparently a couple came out to this location a while back, got into an argument and a 8 carat diamond ring was thrown into the reef. No one has found it yet, but who would advertise that they found it?
The only thing I would advise any visitor to not do is touch anything. Some of the coral here (fire coral) burns to the touch as do some of the fish. You can also get into big trouble if you take anything from this park as everything belongs to the Queen.
If you're treasure hunting or just want to see the best sealift underwater this is a must for any trip to the Virgin Islands. read more
