Great classic venue, it was clean and well-managed. We saw Return to Dust/Myles Kennedy/Mammoth WVH with my family of 4. Our youngest was 17, but we saw even younger kids there with their families. This was my first time back to Diamond Ballroom since my medical condition required me to start using a wheelchair if I go to a concert. Overall, the facility is accessible although getting out and in from the patio was impossible without assistance, but I brought a companion just in case I needed assistance with anything. Most of the staff were awesome as well, BUT..... you know what they say about one bad apple! One of your employees tried to prevent my companion from getting back to me on the patio at the end of the evening. She was very unhappy when my companion came to me anyway. 5 minutes later, your employee tried to reignite the conflict when we tried to move past her getting back in the building. She was verbally taunting my companion, trying to get a reaction from her. That is absolutely ridiculous! I actually reported her to one of your security guards because I felt so unsafe that she was trying to interfere with us trying to LEAVE your venue at the end of the evening! As a handicapped individual in a wheelchair, clearly your venue isn't safe or friendly for me anymore if I require a companion to accompany me after the way this went down Saturday night. What a shame! I see all the money invested and improvements made to this venue over many years. I loved it. It's sad to know I will have to mark this venue off my list of "safe for me" concert venues. The first one from OKC on that list for me. What a shame! Oklahoma, and particularly Oklahoma City, is a bit of fly over with for most bands. So, any chance we have to see a band at the Diamond, we take it. This place gets a lot of negative reviews. But, going to any concert seems to be laden with issues. The Good: The Diamond has been recently updated.... a huge thank you from all the ladies as the bathrooms no longer require that you update your tetanus shots, carry a flashlight, and a gallon of hand sanitizer. The area is bright and clean. Sound system (which can vary on who is running the board) is on par and most bands sound great. Ample parking, clearly marked with guides when you arrive. Loads of room, 3 bars, decent merch area. The club is standing room/General Admission, but there are loads of places to find your perch for the show. The Bad: Ticket prices look good online, but when you start buying the fees add up... plus you only save $5 on two tickets by going to Uptown or Buy for Less... Not sure if this is a venue issue or a band/promotion issue. The Ugly... not really much to say here. Drink prices are what they are, but at least you can get a double. Overall, it is a decent place to see a live band. It's our Field of Dreams... if you Play here, we will come. read more

I had a great time. The concert was amazing. The bartenders were awesome. Until we were calling an Uber an asked the older lady if we could stand just inside the door cause it was less than 40 degrees outside (it was COLD an we didn't have jackets) an the lady an the other younger chick was aweful. Pretty much told us the didn't care an to get outside. Horrible to think all the money we spent in there to pay their salaries an they didn't care enough to let us wait 5 more minutes. Love the location, free parking and lots of nearby lodging. After a recent concert, (purchased tickets and meet and greets for my son for Christmas 2018) my son and I along with several others who had purchased meet and greet passes, were treated very poorly by staff and security. If you're reading this and have anything to do with Diamond Ballroom, please be aware of logistics with the band before reacting badly to patrons. Had those in charge of security acted professionally and asked questions, the whole incident could have been resolved timely. Also, we noticed a large amount of people who could barely walk to their car. Hopefully, there is some training in how to avoid over-serving customers read more

The BF is a huge TV on the Radio (TVOTR) fan and unfortunately, their summer tour '09 didn't stop in St. Louis. And we couldn't make the Chicago date, so OKC was our next closest choice. We made a weekend of it and hung out one night in Tulsa and spent another in OKC. Nice little cities if I do say so myself...but back to the Diamond Ballroom. I was very skeptical of the joint when we pulled up. It looked like a mix between Pop's (a biker bar in STL) and an abandoned airplane hanger. We got there right when it said doors were opening. They lied. We ended up waiting in line with a bunch of random kids for what felt like 30-45 minutes. Our tickets were at Will Call and they only had one person working the booth. Ugh! Once we were in, it was a matter of waiting in line at the bar. They did have more than one bartender working, but these OKC people don't mess around with boozw! Oh, and some of the bars take cards while others only accept cash...what kind of operation are these people running? TVOTR put on a great show and the OKC crowd showed their appreciation. And they drank a lot, which made for some serious entertainment, even after the band had stopped. Interesting people watching for sure! Would I go back again? Haha, so now that you know that, here's what you DO get: For those of us that remember when it was a honkey tonk and we used to use our fake IDs to get in...well, they still have the old wood floor! And the bathrooms are still atrocious, so no big surprise there. But there are three beer stations (with one of them serving mixed drinks) and their drinks are ice cold, and that's a bonus. Mostly rock bands visit the Diamond these days...and that's just fine with me. An eclectic mix, just follow them on Facebook and you'll see what I mean. I was there last night for Young the Giant and they killed it! Listen, the Diamond is an Oklahoma City institution, and it is what it is: a dive-bar atmosphere that brings decent live music to OKC. The sound is decent and the people who run and work there are really nice. Lots of security...although I did smell that old familiar aroma last night! I would give it 5 stars, but hey, I'm a short person. THE ONLY way for me properly to see the band is to either be immediately up front (which involves getting there super early and um NO) or stand in the wayyyyy back. Not the best place I've been to, but I definitely had a good time. Bathrooms were nice, they appeared brand new and could handle the crowd easily at the concert I went to. Also drinks were very reasonable, I was able to get a 16oz beer for $6. Love that full point Miller Lite. I apologize if the fault on this is with the band, but there was a lot of feedback early in the show I saw. Most annoying thigh is that the ticket charges are ridiculous. I mean no matter what you have to pay extra to get your tickets, even if you print at home. Pearl Jam tried their best, but it just wasn't enough. read more

I saw Modest Mouse at the Diamond Ballroom last night. I enjoyed the show a lot more at this venue than at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa mainly because at Cain's I couldn't see anything. Okay. So clearly we're grading on a curve here. And for me, that curve is based solely on the fact that I've seen some of my all-time-desert-island-bands here including: Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Death Cab for Cutie and the Sounds. And I've seen a bunch of lovable other bands too like Morningwood and the Bravery and whole lot of others that made me really happy at the time. We're also grading on the fact that if you squint just right, you can tell yourself you're at Cain's. But it's important to point out that this is (or was at the time it was built in the 1960's) the largest dance floor in the Southwest. Created for country and western dances, over the years so many famous acts have come through that it has come to mean something to lots of different music fans over the years. I think any venue that can be as versatile as the Diamond has a lot going for it right there. I just think a lot of it has to do with how much you're willing to put up with to see a band you love. We saw Old Crow Medicine Show there on Monday night, and they put on such an amazing show that you could almost forget that the bathrooms are usually yucky, that the parking lot leaves a bit to be desired, that their website makes you want to walk right into their back office, pull the AOL CD out of the CD Rom drive, rip that dial up modem out of the wall and shove it up their... I digress. I believe a good show and a few beers make this tattered old venue feel less like a worn out shoe and more like a well-broken in boot. I think the reverse of that applies to a bad show. If someone made me see Nickelback here, I'd probably need a Silkwood shower. So while I'll endure it in the name of a good show, if there's anything this city needs it is another venue, closer to downtown, that wants to book the Wilcoes and the Elvis Costellos and the Old 97s of this world. @DiamondBallroom is a long time concert venue in OKC. Fortunately, they have made some changes over the years that have made it more tolerable. But don't let the "ballroom" in the name fool you, because sadly it is far from being like the lovely Cains Ballroom in Tulsa. Although most well known bands visit Cains or The Brady, they occasionally land at The Diamond. When they do, I have to decide if I like the band enough to endure going to the Diamond Ballroom. When they allowed smoking I chose to skip a few good concerts but now that they have a friendly breathing environment I am more prone to buy a ticket. Let's start with the positives: -nice, big floor -now non-smoking -holds a lot of people -close to the highway with no traffic Well...I guess that's all that's good. The bad: -no seating. Zero. Zip. Not a chair or bleacher or bench to be found in the place. Which is odd. Wood benches are cheap. -bad ventilation which means it is super hot and stuffy -concrete floor. Combined with hours of music with no seating leads to a very painful back and feet. -the parking is atrocious. It is completely gravel. There is a parking lot up front, but only people late to the show are allowed to park there. Those of us who arrive on time get to park in the back lot. And wait an hour in line to leave after the show. And cross your fingers it doesn't rain because you will surely be stuck in the mud if it does. And finally, the worst part of all, is their security personnel. I think they need to be taught that the patrons attending shows aren't inmates. They have paid money for tickets. Some of that money went to the venue, which makes us customers. So yelling, yes yelling, at customers isn't appreciated. Customers get shouted at to park in the right place (forget asking if you can park in the front lot for an easy exit). Drop off vehicles get barked at to "move, move, move!". For a minute I forgot I wasn't a first grader getting put in time out. After parking, it gets worse. Much worse. As you enter the door there is security staff brashly screaming for guys and girls to separate and get in two lines. The lines lead to security guards who frisk you. Yes, bottom, waist, and all. Crazy! I can get through TSA screenings being less violated. I haven't ever been to a venue that goes this far-- not the BOK center, not the Chesapeake Arena, not Cains, not the House of Blues. No where. I totally support safety at the venue, so it is one thing to have metal detectors. Searching for weapons is reasonable. But feeling all over my body without a reason to be suspicious isn't. I wasn't told I would have to endure that when I bought a ticket. I just think it is over the line. Maybe it would be easier to stomach if I wasn't being screamed at and herded forward at the same time. When it comes down to it, the customer service here is severely lacking. I can deal with the venue, but I shouldn't be treated poorly when I give my money to attend a show. I'm a customer. Period. Every other major concert venue in Oklahoma gets it right, so why can't The Diamond? The security staff should treat me like a customer. It is one thing to act tough if customers are acting out, but when I'm keeping to myself and following rules I don't see why I should get treated like crap. I shouldn't. I will certainly question if I am willing to endure all that The Diamond entails before giving them my money the next time I want to see a show. The Diamond Ballroom is definitely "eek! Methinks not" and deserves every bit of one stars. read more

I was physically and verbally accosted by a group of female customers in this venue who also made conspired, false complaints to security about me, and as a result, a male security staff escorted out of the establishment without allowing me to speak to him or a supervisor about my experience. I experienced horrific, pathetic, victim-blaming/shaming, homophobic, unacceptable treatment! I am in complete disbelief of how I was treated at the Diamond Ballroom. This is unacceptable behavior from staff who are supposed to be creating a safe and welcome environment for everyone in the venue. They have some great acts come thru, however it's impossible to buy tickets from the venue and the Etix.com site they use is pure BS! Pay $20 for a ticket, then tack on $9.00 handling fee, then charge me $1.50 for me to print my own tickets, then to top of off you charge me $3.00 for an order fee, so a $20.00 ticket cost almost $40.00 to attend. Freaking legalized scalping. Definitely keeps me from attending shows at this venue. I have caught several show here throughout the years. This is a good place to catch a show. I have seen everything from 7 mary 3 in my teens to Barenaked Ladies. From country show to harder rock. This place used to specialize as a country dance hall back in my teenage years. This place is a good place to catch a show. That is about it. You don't want to have to stand in long lines for beers at some shows. You almost would rather hold it instead of going to the rest room here. Overall good for a show and that is about it. read more

All in all, this place isn't bad. It looks kind of like a large storage shed when you're driving by, so I was kind of confused when me and a friend of mine went here for a concert not long ago. All in all, there was a lot of confusion about price, no one in town seemed to even know where this place was, not to mention who was playing there. Thank god for hotel staff. But anyway, that said, the price was pretty fair for who was playing. I was a little ticked off that the opening band started playing an hour later than we were told they would, but its cool. The inside of the building is pretty much wood... or at least, fake wood... which is weird since the outside is clearly metal. Still, its kind of a perfect venue for a country show, especially with the tables in the back and the alcohol venders all the way around the length of the building. The concert itself was ok. I have seen many a concert, in many a venue, and I like Diamond Ballroom. There are not a lot of frills, but that's part of the charm. The staff was fun, the bathrooms were clean, and it was a nice night for my group to enjoy the back patio. During the show, we got pretty close and still had plenty of room, I never had issues seeing the stage. Saw OKGO and their extremely visual and interactive show worked great in this space. Parking is pretty easy since they direct you to your spot. It's more of an open, festival-type parking situation, so be prepared to kick up a little dust, but it's nothing too treacherous. At the bar, tall boys of Modelo were not too shabby, maybe $5. I think? If you are in the mood to really get those drinking boots tied tight, you can always trek across the lot to Little Dick's Halfway Inn. I'll write up a separate review for that later, but it was a pretty cool dive bar, good prices, great jukebox, and plenty of bar games to be had. I will definitely come see another show here when another random great band finds their way to the Diamond Ballroom. If you accept this place for the honky tonk joint it is, you will have a blast. Staff has always been pleasant, it's a large open area that lacks some tables and more seating, people sitting on the ground around the venue. Prices are steep for beer and liquor, the bartenders hardly give any liquor, below the normal shot to a mix drink. I went to see Coheed and Cambria perform in May. The band performed well, but the overall experience in the venue was okay. The ambiance left something to be desired, the service from the bar was sloppy/rude. There was vomit in the bathroom for a couple of hours, and the security was being way to aggressive towards the guests. It feels a little like being in a barn with a bunch of cattle. I've seen 15+ shows here from The Ataris to Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There isn't too much security and you get in the door pretty quickly after 6:30, typically no long waits. I am giving this venue a 3ish because of several inaccurate details and the fact that they don't promote their shows well. There have been times that I missed shows because I only found out a day before prior. And also shows here seem to get cancelled quite a bit . There have been several concerts where the headlining band dropped out and I was left to see the three opening bands- whom I didn't care much for. If I pay, I expect to see the headlining band!. You never know when a show is cancelled altogether until you go to the venue and see an empty parking lot. If you are planning to go to a show here- call a few hours in advance to make sure the date and show time is correct- and that the band is still playing. read more

Went here for the Kacey Musgraves concert. The venue is fun, sort of feels like a high school gym? The acoustics arent amazing, but the vibe is really fun. It gets HOT in there. Well, no pics or videos from the concert since we could see absolutely ZERO! It was so bad we ended up leaving before Papa Roach even came on. My son is 5'10" and couldn't even see the stage. There is no area for people in wheelchairs or, other assistive devices, to be able to watch the concert! It is NOT handicap friendly at all! Not to mention the acoustics were terrible. You could hear the band, but the singer's voice was so muffled you couldn't understand what they were saying. My boys didn't even want to stay, and they LOVE Papa Roach. Think Knights of Columbus and an old fashioned 7 Up menu board paired with posters of previous acts that have played there from Tammy Wynette to Body Count. I would totally go back. read more

I saw Kacey Musgraves here most recently, but I've been to a few other shows here and never had a bad time. Ticket prices are reasonable, and I was pleasantly surprised at drink prices. $4 for a 16 oz. beer is not bad at all, especially for a concert venue where I'd usually expect to pay $6+ for a beer. read more

I went here to the Sick Puppies (who were awesome, btw), but my experience was very nearly ruined by THE most overbearing security presence I have EVER encountered in a concert setting. I've been to at least 20 concerts in the last five years. Although this isn't my favorite concert hall, it's consistent with all that I've been to. Last night was my third time coming here from Broken Arrow and I got to see Delane, Sonata Arctica and Nightwish, with my coworker Todd. Speakers were loud and heavy, t-shirts were available for purchase (at a cheap $20) and alcohol was of course provided. Great concert venue. read more

I've seen a lot of shows here over the years ranging from Skinny Puppy to The Flaming Lips to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Diamond Ballroom is... pretty much just a long boxy building on the southeast side of Oklahoma City with a gravel parking lot. It has a seedy honky tonk feel to it but not in a good way. There aren't bleachers so if your feet are giving you a hard time, be prepared to not have any view and sit on metal chairs in the back with the rest of the chaperon parents who are counting the minutes til the last song. If you need to make a phone call, you're not going outside because once you're out, they won't let you back in. Even if the weather is 17 degrees and the bouncer saw you exit two minutes earlier. And then there's the smoke. The smoke was so thick at the last show I saw there that my eyes burned like I'd caught a face full of pepper spray. I was teary-eyed, it was so bad. Interesting shows do come through (like Neko Case last year) but you're better off checking to see if they'll be playing at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa and making the drive because that's a much nicer venue. read more

Simply put, this place is a sh*thole. They say it's been renovated, but how many times can you polish a turd? Anyway, I've been here a few times and you'd think I'd learn my lesson to not return. The parking lot is an absolute travesty. No pavement. Just dirt and rocks. And for someone like me who requires the use of a walking cane, that's not good. It's best to park at the little bar next door and walk. The inside is rather small. Especially for the big crowds this place sometimes attracts. The bar is always busy and takes forever. The bathrooms are terrible. An aroma of old urine and vomit consumes your nostrils. Security is pretty much a joke. Almost nonexistent. The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is because they seem to be one of the few places that book rock/metal bands. Which is my only reason for going. I never think I'm gonna be walking into the Taj Mahal, but a little care and cleanliness would really help this place be a lot better. read more
