I highly recommend Dr. John Devun at Devun Veterinary Medical Hospital. I have been going to him since he first started in Chalmette, La. He helped me through my first English Bulldog's pregnancy, and he delivered her 8 puppies by C-section. Not only did he help me through her pregnancy, but promised me if she went into labor on an off day, all I had to do was call him. Well of course my Sweetpea went into labor on a Sunday, and all I had to do was call him and he met me at Buccaneer Villa Animal Hospital. He told me to bring a few friends with me since she was a risk being put under anesthesia and he would have to deliver them quickly. Well he instructed us as what to do as he handed each of us a puppy and all went extremely well thanks to his experience. All was well, but as my son and I was driving home, Sweetpea was lying in her bed with all 8 puppies when she stopped breathing. We hurried and turned around went right back and he got her to breathe again, and said he would take her to the emergency clinic in Metairie and watch and keep her overnight and give her IV fluids. The next morning he said she would be fine and he brought her back to Chalmette for me to pick her up. If it wouldn't have been for his quick respnse I would have lost her. He warned me in the beginning when I wanted to breed her it would be a risk, as Bulldogs tend to have breathing problems among other complications during their lives and especially during pregnancy, but I was young and inexperienced but wanted puppies and did I get them. Dr. Devun is not only the best Veterinarian around as far as medical for animals, but no one can match his bedside manner and how he treats us owners of these animals. Recenlly, I moved, tried to save a little time and gas, went to another vet in my area and could not believe how this doctor was so impersonal. Just like we parents of our children want the best for them, we as owners of our pets, whom we consider them part of our family, want the best for our pets. Dr. Devun has been my Vet for a good 15 yrs. There is no other person I put all my trust in to take care of my furry four legged babies. This clinic is up to date with today's technology as well as a confident staff. I have and will continue to recommend this facility to all my friends. I would also like to say that it's comforting to know that all my pets needs can be seen and treated in a professional and timely manner. He saved P who ate rat poison when she younger she's now 15yrs old, he's treated my Lucy for ongoing eye problems and most recently consoled me with the loss of my Missy. I'm sorry but you cannot put a $$$$ sign on that type of care. It's quite understandably upsetting when a pet is sick.....you're looking for urgency....in a perfect world with perfect people everything would be perfect, IT'S NOT, therefore with that being said the positive out weighs the negative. Dr. Devun has been our veterinarian for the past four years. He is an amazing, compassionate, and knowledgeable vet. You can tell that he, and his whole team, really care about the animals that they treat. When our dog, Shela, was in late stage kidney failure, doctor Devun went to incredible measures to make her last months as comfortable as possible. When it was time to make the difficult decision to put our sweet Shela to sleep, Dr. Devun couldn't have been any more kind and sympathetic. We could sense the sadness felt by the entire staff. We have never noticed any of the staff responding rudely to any person or animal that has come through their doors seeking help. When we felt emotionally ready to adopt a new shelter dog, we knew immediately who we would trust our new family member's care to, Dr. Devun and his wonderful staff. read more

Absolutely horrific front office staff. (Namely, Kathy). First of all, good luck getting a same day apt if you are not a regular, frequent and favorite customer. I recently called the clinic to complain and was chewed out and screamed at by Kathy. As a professional with my own patients, I was appalled by the way she treated me. I would NEVER scream at or talk down to a client/patient. She also spoke poorly about me to my sister, who is also a vet, telling her that "I am the rudest person she has ever met" and that I am a "liar". Absolutely no class in the front office of this clinic. It does not matter how great the vet is if the staff is rude and mean. They are way too proud of themselves and think very highly of themselves. There are so many other great vets in mandeville. Don't waste your time here. read more

This vet is FANTASTIC. First, a great guy, friendly, nice and spends whatever time is needed to answer questions that all pet owners want to know. He also gives dining out tips of great places to eat! (I just moved here from Florida) My chocolate lab had a bad skin condition and while I knew he would probably be put on antibiotics the vet suggested his thyroid be checked...no other vet had ever suggested it and sure enough he had very low thyroid levels. My dog looks like a new dog in only one month!!! I'm happy and the vet said he too was thrilled to see the progress. The office is clean and neat and smells good too. The front desk staff has been nothing but NICE and efficient. You will NOT be sorry to put your pet in this man's hands. FYI he's right off the highway so it's easy to get to. read more

Isn't it a shame when someone posts negative comments about a fantastic place, and the comments are irrelevant? Too bad the prior post had no idea what was going on and just assumed a scenario. I've been going there since it opened and know everyone very well. I will not take any pet anywhere else. Dr. DeVun went above and beyond in the treatment of my sick dog and completed a very complex surgery successfully.he has been my family vet for years and I have always been happy. Great vet and great staff-very friendly people. the girls up front at the office are really sweet and always helpful. They will answer any questions you may have about your pet.
