Rarely do I pull off the Interstate for an unplanned stop at a vista point. It's generally not worth the lost driving time, but the rocky scenery was looking nice, so I gave it a shot. I should have waited until the next stop at the Spotted Wolf Canyon View Area (see https://www.yelp.com/biz/san-rafael-swell-green-river).
Located about 60 miles east of Salina, Utah, this viewpoint is only available to drivers on eastbound I-70. The nearby Eagle Canyon Viewing Area is available to westbound traffic. Both offer the tan-colored sandstone in a 400-foot deep canyon. The eastbound side has a short, slightly steep walk to the rim of Devil's Canyon.
I-70 has many drowsy signs trying to induce drivers to pull over for safety reasons, but it felt more like a ploy to get tourists to buy from the local tribe selling wares at the rest stop. read more
