Pfouts Attorney Amourgis & Associates…read more Sadly, we sought legal representation after my Mother passed away rather unexpectedly and it was becoming evident that my Brother was exploiting his role as executor for personal gain. My Mother had a Will that clearly defined her wishes but, my Brother took it upon himself to have her Will revoked, he was able to do this legally through the courts because one of the witnesses was also a beneficiary (please learn from our pain-make sure you have your Will reviewed by a competent attorney and have a legally sound copy on file with the courts.) In addition to not having a legally sound Will, my Mother had set up a sizable bank account as Payable on Death to my Brother "to make paying bills easier on everyone in the event of her passing" (another mistake for others to learn from-in the State of Ohio, Payable On Death Bank Accounts are considered trusts and can legally be excluded from probate.) My Brother, exploited this loophole to ignore my Mothers wishes and take and keep the bank account for himself. Because we're in Texas; my interactions with Mr Pfouts were handled over the phone and via email. It was very clear through our interactions that Mr Pfouts is very professional and honest. He explained in detail how my Brother had gotten away with everything he's done and was very honest in sharing that sadly, while my Brothers behavior is undoubtedly deplorable, legal precedent has been set in Ohio meaning that trying to fight for the Will to be carried out as my Mother had wished would likely be a long, painful, and expensive battle that we were unlikely to win. Certainly not the news we had hoped for but, we are so appreciative that Mr Pfouts was honest with us about our situation and spared us the further pain, agony, and expense of trying to move forward legally. I absolutely would not hesitate to recommend Mr Pfouts and Amourgis & Associates. I hope this review helps others find legal representation and that it also helps others learn from our experience just how costly (both financially and emotionally) not seeking appropriate legal counsel can be when setting up a Will.
