Beer Man - Meeting the Mead Maker

Beer Man

Beer man is the go to place in Goose Creek for whatever your beer and mead needs may be. They have…read morethe best selection in town, both in terms of quality and quantity. You want something local, they have plenty to choose from you. You want something international, they have plenty of that for you too. An excellent place to find your old favorites to enjoy and reminisce, as well as finding new favorites with which to make new memories. It's always a pleasure shopping there as well. Vince, the owner, is awesome and extremely knowledgeable, so is always a pleasure to chat with about beer, food, life, and whatever else may come up. He is always ready with a recommendation if you're looking to try something new. The store is very well and logically organized, so it is easy to navigate to what you are interested in. That way, you don't have to wonder about forever trying to see if that one thing is in stock or worry about missing an interesting new beer in your favorite style.

He was so friendly and made a ton of recommendations. One being the Estrella Jalisco Chamoy Michelada and the other being Alagash White. If you love spicy micheladas, this has got the be the best one they've made so far - yes better than Modelo. If you like blue moon, you'll have to try the Alagash white! We got a variety of others beers which we haven't tried it but will update once I do. The place is super clean and organized which makes it easier to browse though. He also has a great selection of exotic snacks which pair very well with beers. He has a good story behind the Beer Man name. He shared with us that one night, while drinking with his buddies, one randomly yelled "beer, Man!" And the name just stuck. The painting on the wall is also inspired by his favorite beer Alagash, which he shared was so hard to find and now Carries it in his establishment. If I lived in SC, I would make sure to always support Vince. I have never felt so welcomed in a business. This may not mean a lot to a lot of people but all three of us are of different ethnic backgrounds and were treated exactly the same. Thank you Vince for sharing your stories and for making us feel so welcome and showing how much you appreciate your customers. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Who comes to a grocery store and doesn't buy groceries? Me!…read more I love Lowe's Boxcar Coffee and Beer Den. Tucked into a corner, it's a great place to relax with your favorite beverage. The booths are comfy, plenty of high tops, and a few seats at the bar. The coffee is excellent. I'm a purist, but flavor fanciers will love the available options. I'm going to try the beer, because I can buy in recyclable growlers - and it's tasty. But the attribute I like best is that while it's not silent, there's the usual hubbub, it's quiet enough to have a normal volume conversation with a friend or a group. How nice to have a cuppa with friends, and catch up, without shouting over the TVs, blaring music, and arcade games of most places. Plus, there's fresh pastries just down the aisle...

Located at the intersection of not 1, not 2 but 3, three roads... ha haha ha... (A little Lebron /…read moreThe Count mashup humor there) Lowes can cater to and elevate all of your grocery needs. I must admit as a former chef then afterwards living in Kansas City and Austin TX for 25 years and frequenting large grocery stores with almost all of the things I've needed under one roof; I've been very disappointed with almost all the grocery stores here. So, after my mother convinced me to stop by Lowes I was pleasantly surprised with a chain that "gets it" here in town. Walking in I found the place to be extremely clean with some of the nicest employees I've come across since being back in town. Moreover, they're rather smart; strategically placing fresh baked focaccia bread close to the entrance, enticing one's stomach to influence the power of the purse. Next, I challenge anyone to resist their smoked foods as the air is heavy with the sweet perfume. Please note that Lowes carries a LOT of items customers will NOT find at other stores. From the towns best selection of cheeses, rack of lamb, watermelon radish and on the list continues, I encourage all those reading this to shop this store for those harder to find items. As for instore made items, I've tried a few and would like to report my limited findings. First, I bought a loaf of olive focaccia bread a noted weakness of mine. I found it be pillow-y moistness, bouncing back to the touch with a good fragrance however the amount of rosemary in it will repel even the most persistent of demons (odd refence). I bought another loaf of parmesan and I had the same issue, just way to rosemary which I happen to enjoy. I wish they had an alternative without the herb but other than that it's awesome. Another success in the bakery was the Bavarian donuts which I highly advise not buying as they're downright addictive. Soft, moist and a perfect chocolate to cream ratio these things are illegal in 5 surrounding counties! As for protein, I broke down and got the smoked chicken wings and macaroni salad for lunch. Again, this would be a resounding success if it weren't for one overwhelming ingredient; in this case salt. I'm of the belief they marinated these wings in the dead sea as it tasted as if the cap to the salt shaker fell off when seasoning these wings. Otherwise, these wings hit on all notes as they were moist and had the perfect amount of smoke. As for the mac salad, everyone has their version of what are perfect ingredients so I'll just add this, they perfectly cooked the pasta. That is to say the noodles weren't soggy or cooked to death; rather al dente which is perfect for the summertime favorite. As for addins I think they're ok but that's very subjective. Again, a certified hit. I did grab the sushi one day but I'm not a fan of grocery store sushi for the simple fact that the rice needs to be warm and the fish cold as it creates a contrast in the mouth. That said I got the fried shrimp sushi and it was just like any other store, not great. Nothing taken away as I realize most people are happy with this. My point is if I'm craving sushi a grocery store isn't the first thing that comes to mind as a true restaurant has better quality fish and a more diverse menu. To summarize Lowes is a great place to obtain those harder to find ingredients with the best in store created foods among all the competitors out there. The people here are very nice and willing to help however please note you'll need to obtain a card to get the discounts, the one down side of Lowes, is they're a little more expensive. However, "it's a small price to pay" for leveling up on the quality meter. This is my favorite grocery store in town and it's not even close.

MOMO Crowfield - Smoked Chicken Thighs ($15)

I am so proud of this partnership. GC has been in sore need of an upper-scale dining spot amidst…read morethe sea of diners and fast food, and Momo was the perfect choice. The venue has been updated and has been redone in primarily black and white paint and accents. It's nice - not dated, not trying to look fancier than it is. It's comfortable and approachable. They have taken out many of the tables from the previous spot so you feel like there is room around you to breathe. The chairs are SO comfortable, too. They're inviting and even two hours later we still commented on how good they felt. If you've been to the Riverfront location, the menu will be very familiar. They have added a few new options but have primarily stuck with what they know they do well, which is smart while they're just opening up. We started with the smoked chicken thighs and the deviled eggs (which we ordered when we saw them being delivered to another table and needed to have them!), both SO good. My never-ending pet peeve is when you order something and it comes with too many or not enough for the table - like 5 deviled eggs for a 4-top. For my entree, I ordered the steak frites. I don't eat a lot of red meat, so this was a special treat and they did not disappoint. The medium rare was perfect and the fries were yummy as always. Both of the dessert specials sounded good, so we decided to get them both so everyone at the table could have a bite. I will be back, for sure. My only spot for opportunity was the parking lot. It is VERY dark. I don't know that I would truly feel comfortable walking there at night - there are some trip hazards and it's not the safest if you're alone, so I hope they add in some spotlights and a path.

This review is really a combo of two reviews: the outdoor bar and then the restaurant…read more The outdoor bar is amazing! 5 stars! I don't know why every golf course doesn't have an outdoor bar! I always swing by before during and after a round of golf and they are always extremely courteous, expedient, and kind! They have ample options to take with you on the course or to enjoy at the bar! I will forever partake at this beautiful bar. The restaurant on the other hand, crap service, below par food with above par prices! My first time dining in, we walk in the front door and didn't see a host stand so I walk through the restaurant looking for someone to seat us, I walk out the back and then back in and then finally saw a server (there are only servers working) that then directed us to the host stand that was virtually hidden at the front entrance. As we then walk to the host stand the same server then asked us if we wanted to sit inside our outside? The entire restaurant was empty so the game of "let's walk back to the host stand" was beyond dumb. We sat outside, the other server then greeted us and asked for a drink orders, she brought those back relatively fast but then poof gone and for a hot minute! I went to the bathroom and both servers were at the server station with their faces buried in their phones, not talking to each other or noticing any patrons in the vicinity. I get back to the table and the server appears and takes our food order. The food came out super fast, thinking it was because the place was empty, nope, it was because the food is crap! I ordered a blue cheese burger, the patty was obviously frozen and maybe 1/6th of a pound of the saddest blandest gray patty money can buy, the "blue cheese" was this ultra thin slice of some processed Kraft single concoction that, if you didn't tell me it was blue, I wouldn't have known. There was ZERO funk! I wasn't expecting it to be overflowing with a fat chunk of cheese cut of the block but if you label it as a blue cheese burger, you should taste the blue cheese, hell taste the burger, especially if you are charging 14 bucks a pop! The cherry on top, was the tomato and cucumber salad, I shit you not, had one cherry tomato CUT IN HALF with the rest being 50% onion and 40% cucumber! Moral of the story, go to the bar, skip the restaurant.
