This is my first Yelp review, I felt compelled to do so after the wonderful experience at "Det Gule Hus."
In April of 2014, my girlfriend and I traveled to Ribe as the last leg of a three week Scandinavian vacation. We were welcomed by Ida, the proprietor of the 16th century carpentry workshop turned gift/boutique shop in beautiful Ribe.
Ida, a mother, artist & world traveler invited us to sit for coffee and share traveling stories.
Wonderfully colored gifts are displayed at the store's front, yet as you explore deeper into the shop there are rare antiques and lovely glass jars to be found. Dispersed throughout the store are old tools and remnants of the once-was carpentry workshop, such as an old vice-grip on the display table adored with flowers.
Venturing up to the attic is a must, as you'll discover special treasures beneath a lovely vast paneled painting of Snow White and her dwarves. My own special souvenir was an iron-wrought vase fit to chiseled cemetery stone from a local artist in Denmark.
The charming fantasy of this place, coupled with the hospitality of its host, make "Det Gule Hus" one of my finest memories of Ribe. Also, adjacent is the must see narrowest street in all of Ribe. read more
