For example, they'll do a big Thanksgiving dinner for the families at the school, which aunts, uncles, grandparents are all invited too. We've been going here for over a year, Dr. Fil and the teachers feel like an extension of our family. When my father in law was sick, Dr. Fil had my sons class make him a get well card. Which he loved. He eventually passed away, and Dr. Fil had the kids make a condolence banner, for our family. They're very thoughtful and compassionate here. The question was not couched in any language to describe that this president was known for his drunkenness or being a terrible president. The quote was not listed on the study guide as need to know material for students. And yet, it was on the test along with several other questionably framed topics regarding slavery and civil war. These types of questions are damaging to children who are already bullied for being different in some ways from the white men who hold privilege/power in our country. The new principal is harsh and unforgiving. She has no qualms about threatening parents with crimes for stopping to talk to teachers before or after school while at the same time telling parents to stop emailing all the time. How are parents supposed to advocate for their children if they cannot stop to talk to the teachers or email them? Her solution is to let kids sink and fail repeatedly while being bullied by teachers and students daily. Is it appropriate for a teacher to ask a student to turn off the light for class and when they get up to do so, say "you need the exercise" followed by laughter of all the middle school classmates. This happens at Cyril (a male teacher in junior high commenting on a female child's need for exercise). Is it appropriate for a teacher (whom the student told before class they forgot their contacts and weren't seeing the board well) to then ask that student to read the board and answer the question from their seat? And then when the student responds I can't see it well today, for the teacher to respond, I bet you can't to the laughter of all the other students? Is it appropriate for a school to make an accommodation plan for a student and then choose not to follow it repeatedly despite parent documentation of the lapses? Why even make a plan if you are going to shame the child for needing it? Is it ok for teachers to stop parents anytime or anywhere on campus for an impromptu meeting including in hallways to discuss private matters like mental health, grades, or quality of notes BUT have a policy that parents cannot stop and talk to teachers about the same things? Is it appropriate for a school to ban parents and students from speaking their native languages like Spanish on campus? What about when their child is hurt or injured and the parent is trying to comfort them? The parents are scolded, "English please", by this new principal. This school has had multiple leadership changes over the last few years. We were family here for 8 years and have finally realized that they don't really care about you or your kids. They care about control and compliance. They don't really care about diversity. They care about kids sitting down and shutting up while they are fed bullying alongside questionable teaching practices such as shaming and yelling at kids. Your money (or state funds from ESA) supports old and outdated teaching that leads to bullying at this school and in the future workplace. It's sad to see such kind families be taken advantage of and bullied into silence and submission. Now he runs a Dungeons and Dragons campaign with 4 other students on the weekends and their laughter fills our home. Now he's a peer mentor and helps resolve disputes, at a student level, when they arise. Now his teachers tell me how amazing and intuitive his questions are, how funny he can be, and how dedicated he is when he finds a topic that really interests him. My son comes home now and tells me about his day. My daughter wantsto go to school and pretends notto be sick sometimes, in the hopes I won't keep her home. I feel like Kino is all the best of what homeschooling is, but with teachers better than I could be at this point in my life. I don't feel as though I'm failing every morning when I drop them off at the front door. I feel, instead, that even when we can't do family dinners or I'm so busy with other obligations I barely see them for several days in a row - I feel like, it's okay because I'm doing something right. Our experience was extremely disappointing. The school advertises the Carden teaching method, but I found the curriculum difficult to understand, and I watched several kindergarten students struggle with the way they were being taught. Weekly spelling lists contained only a few words with very little practice or reinforcement, and the words were rarely used in sentences to help children understand them. Instead of helping students succeed, the teaching methods left many children confused. I also witnessed a teacher grab a child roughly by the arm. I was so concerned that I found the child's parent and told them what I had seen. My grandchild once forgot his water bottle and was told to drink water from the bathroom sink instead of being offered another solution. What concerns me most is student safety and privacy. Personal information about my grandchild was shared with someone who was not authorized on the pickup or contact list. That is a serious breach of trust. Parents pay a substantial amount of tuition expecting quality education, professionalism, and a safe environment. Based on our experience, we did not receive that. I also find it concerning that I have been unable to locate a public place to leave a review of this school. I hope other parents will carefully research the school, ask detailed questions about its curriculum, student safety procedures, and privacy practices before making the decision to enroll their children. This was our family's experience, and I believe other parents deserve to hear it when making an important decision about their child's education.

To me, if a parent is not allowed on site, it's an indication that things are not above board. They did not improve. One day when I walked past a classroom, I heard a teacher telling a child that they had made God sad because they weren't listening to her. I emailed the director the same day because I found that to be very inappropriate. I never heard back from her. There were just too many red flags. We pulled our child and never looked back.
