I have previously never bought art work in my life - but I have 4 Des Phillips paintings. I bought them over a several year period from one of the art dealers in Mogo about 25 years ago. They are mostly aboriginal images and landscapes - done in a wonderful and unique way that screams 'home on the South Coast of NSW'.
To me they had a special type of charisma - done by a local indigenous artist. They each have a unmistakable technique to them which may not be sophisticated - but is certainly appealing (to me anyway). At one stage his art was used on a phone card/pass for the Sydney Olympics in 2000. It seemed like this guy was going to crack the big time! I believe he has since passed on.
I think he was quite prolific as well - there were always about a dozen of his paintings for sale in the gallery at any one time when I would check in (every 2 or 3 months back then). I think I was lucky to get what I got - I am sure others also share a delight in his work. If anyone is interested can post some images of what I have.. I still believe they have to potential to be highly sought after one of these days... Cheers Pieter van Dijk (Canberra) 23 May 21 read more
