I have always wanted to skydive and Des Moines Skydivers is a great place to do it! 1.) It was very easy to fill out the waiver at home and when we arrived we were all set and just needed to pay. 2.) The workers are personable but serious which is okay based on the fact they are in charge of people jumping out of planes. The actual business is in a small town airport hanger so it isn't super nice but it gets the job done. 3.) I did a tandem jump with a photographer, both were personable and very knowledgeable. They both made me really excited and feel safe for the jump. All 6 of the divers that helped my family were fun and made the jump even more enjoyable. 4.) I will also be signing up for the skydiving license they offer as well. Overall this was amazing experience with some great people. The views ended up being spectacular and the free fall was exciting. They are very much in control and made us all feel safe. And I would recommend this experience to anyone. read more

This bucket list has been crossed off multiple times for me! DO IT! You know you want to Sky dive! This is the place to come if you are local and want to tandem jump or even learn to jump yourself. I have now jumped 3 times and every time with this great group of people who teach and jump all the time. I am addicted and wish I could jump all the time. For our one year wedding anniversary I purchased the two tandem jumps and videos and photo for my husband and I. He has never jumped and was a little nervous and excited. I talked to AJ on the phone to confirm a couple extra details but then scheduled the jump with ease on the website. We arrived bright and early on a Sunday morning. Morning jumps are the best cause the air is so nice and cool in the summer mornings. We signed more documentation that we did to get married and watched a safety video. We got the run down with our instructors. I was like a little kid all over again jumping up and down with excitement as we put on our harnesses. Soon enough we loaded into the plane- BTW we did the jump from the Turbine Aircraft: *Jump Altitude: 13,000 ft This is the best cause you fall for a longer period of time and have more fun in the air. We took the nice smooth ride up and the camera man talked with us and took video of us all. When we were up as to the altitude we needed the door was opened up and we tumbled out of the plane! Lots of girl screaming when I could catch my breath and then since it was another jump under my belt the instructor let me pull the rip chord to the chute~! I wore a device that told me the altitude and when we hit a certain height I pulled the chord! What a rush! The experience was one in a million and I love it every time. My husband landed like a feather and was excited enough to go again. He has told all his friends that its worth the money to do the trip and actually enjoyed the video because it all happens so fast you get to relive it in the photos and video. I would recommend this group to anyone interested in doing this. They are all super friendly and work to make it a great jump no matter how many you have done or if its your first. I get the great rush every time that I do it and so happy that I got to take my husband! read more

Planned to go skydiving with a friend from out of state who was in town for a few days, made reservations, paid deposit, everything looked good to go. The day of the jump came it was pretty cloudy so we called them and asked if it was likely that the jump would happen. They seemed reasonably confident that we could so we made the 40 minute drive to Winterset. To my colossal disappointment, not only did we not get to jump after waiting for at least 3-4 hours, but the workers were less than useless. The weather was not good for jumping, I understand they cannot control the weather, but they gave us zero updates the entire time we were there, opting instead to play around on wheelchairs and stand around gossiping instead of informing customers on what was happening. I asked repeatedly for updates and was given no useful information. Towards the end of our time there, they claimed that they were sending a plane out soon to scope out the cloud cover. An hour later, I asked for an update and they had still not sent the plane, even though there were at least 6 employees standing around the hangar. The worst thing is after we decided to call it a day and leave, I asked about getting my deposit back. They typically don't return deposits and instead try to reschedule the jump but considering my friend was in town for the week only, they said they would make an exception. Despite calling them 4 separate times to make sure I got my deposit back, and being told they would refund my money, I never got it and eventually gave up in frustration. If you want to go skydiving, STAY AWAY from this place. Find another jump site nearby, there are alternatives that are surely better. Horrible experience overall, I will never give them business again and will do everything I can to get other people away as well. read more
