We could have played here for many more hours! One price gets you all the games you can stand until closing time. There's something for about all ages and skill levels. We loved the selection. They have a party room which would be great for a celebration or event. The menu has a variety of fun ice cream treats. There is a slightly higher fee if you're going to use the special room of pinball machines. It would be very worth it if you were intending to play yourself and not there with a small child. The only bad thing is the "all for one price" deal gives rise to many ADHD players who seem to hop from one game to another without having played for more than a minute or two. Many machines are sitting mid-game from players walking away. Plus there's no thrill of winning the extra ball at pinball or extra player in a game because there's no weight to the loss. The space also fills up so much there's little to no walking room so you have to squeeze between players once there's more than a dozen or two in there. As a tip: a couple of the pinball games were stuck at a selection screen or unable to provide any balls. The power switch tends to be on the bottom, front right side. If you reach under and power off for 10 seconds and back on they all reset and appeared to work perfectly. Our six year old loved it and we plan to be back again soon.

I ment to write as soon as I got home from the event but I was in a sugar coma from the delicious ice cream from The Outside Scoop. I lucky got to go down Friday evening. Parking is marked on the opposite side of the street of the venue. As we walked up the food trucks were feeding the masses. We entered the main door, here you purchase the entrance fee as make your way in. Right inside is a couple vendors and a bar where you can wet your whistle. From here you climb a couple flights of steps and enter a room full of magic. Here the magic is made by multiple vendors that are all local. There was everything you can imagine. Beautiful hand made jewellery, soaps, music, clothes, food, coffee, wood products and more and more. The vendors change a little bit with talking with a few I can see they all like the inside venue. It had great light add even a sky light. I think I'll be visiting this market again.

There was a bar, there was a food truck, there was plenty to buy and to see! Awesome bi-annual local event that truly shows the local love!

They also have some far out features like an old school box office (which didn't seem to be in use when we were at our show), a phone booth, and a cute mural of retro musicians. The venue itself was pretty good as far as lighting, seating, and audio go. The event we attended was a comedy show (Jay and Silent Bob), and it was in late June. Being in late June/almost July, it was HOT outside and the venue didn't seem to have very good or any air conditioning that we could feel. Very sticky night. The show we were at was a seated event, so luckily not a lot of movement, but we were still sweating! I could not imagine a concert or show that people are dancing and moving around all night. I think if you see a show posted at the Val Air Ballroom that interests you, definitely consider checking it out. Just be sure to pay attention to the weather that day and dress accordingly (shorts/tanks would have been great for my show!)

Heads up - the play was 70 minutes long and the chairs were fine, but I wouldn't want to see a 2.5 hour play without bringing a bit of extra cushion. Still - a fun afternoon's entertainment. That is what we like. This review is supposed to be about the Slaughterhouse. We got there early because with our SlipKnoT meet and greet we got in early to meet the band and be one of the first inside the haunted attraction. The entire experience was fun. The inside was very dark in places where i couldn't see a thing and got a bit lost inside trying to find my way. I tried to turn my screen on to see the way and i was yelled at saying "no phones" which I can understand but we should be able to know where we are going. I also tried to get a couple sneak peek shots inside for the Yelp community!! The attraction was fun and it looked well put together. The costumes were not just face paint either. It looked like they spent some time putting together the costume. It is a drag when the employees do not put in any effort. These guys were NOT like that. One guy even swung over the top of the group. I think anyone would enjoy this whether SlipKnoT was there or not.

In Des Moines we are lucky enough to have an amazing Amphitheater for shows! Right on the Des Moines River facing downtown, this is probably the most beautiful place in Des Moines and one of the finest in the midwest to see a concert! The stage is round and they bring in great sound! You can stand and dance, or bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on the hill. The Nightfall on the River series is usually really good and has a decent range of up and comers and bands from yesteryear playing! The space is not huge so the shows feel very intimate for an outdoor space!
