We arrived a little early and they let us take the boat out before our scheduled time. Steve's son ( don't remember his name) went over the instructions and gave us some bottled waters. We rented for 4 hours and we were able to visit multiple locations in the lake that I could only see from the road. Our tour guide was very sweet and made sure we were all comfortable during the two hour ride. They also have Eco tours, which we could definitely tell she was into. A smaller lake close by was closed off completely due to a deadly algae, which she then collected algae from the lake and took the sample under a microscope and invited anyone to come check it out. Her interest made it that much more personable and I enjoyed it. Not the bad algae though, obviously. She even offered to take pictures for us. The sunset was beautiful and on the way back we saw some water falls. Something to consider before booking. The difference between this sunset cruise and the Charter sunset cruise is because it is more private with 6 passengers per tour at a higher rate and starts at 6:30pm-8:30pm with daily cruises available, whereas Ithaca boat tours allows up to 24 people starting at 7:30pm-9:30pm with cruises only on Friday/Saturday. We didn't mind if there was going to be more people on board, but there were only about 8 of us on the boat that night anyway. I also like that it starts at a later time so we could relax and get a nice meal beforehand. I would recommend this tour. Don't forget it's BYOB! Have fun!

That said, I'll probably only visit during the off season (early spring or after Labor Day by a bit). I came here once with my dog and they're apparently very specific about dogs ONLY being in a little beach area. I wasn't letting him in the water anywhere else (I definitely want to be respectful of the main beach area and any swimmers), and he's always on leash when we visit, but I was followed around (from one end of the park to the other) by a member of the park staff during that previous visit with him They could never tell me what I was doing that they didn't like, but they kept trying to usher me out of wherever I was. I booked my reservation online for 12:30PM for a 2-person/tandem kayak. My friend and I signed the waivers online ahead of time to save paper and time. On the day of my reservation, we were running a bit late and called a few hours before to ask if they could push our reservation to 1:00PM--they said no problem. When we got there, we went into the main office and found out that they have canoes, so we asked if we could change it and it turned out to be the same price as the tandem kayak so they switched it with no problem. The process from check-in to getting on the water was about 10 minutes (there was no one else there docking at the moment). The staff was very friendly and nice, knew what they were doing and clear in their explanations. If you want to paddle to Cayuga Lake, I recommend doing 4-hours so you don't have to haul ass back and forth in 2 hours, which is what we booked. We hit Cayuga Lake in about 35 minutes (non-stop paddling) and had some time to explore along Stewart Park, but that's all we ended up having time for before having to head back to the paddle dock.

Gavin the Strong actually jumped into the water and *PUSHED the boat* down to the end of the dock entrance since one of our party was having problems getting out of the boat onto the dock.
