Woodside Nursery recently became affiliated with the wholesale nursery Centerton Nursery. The…read moreoriginal owner of Woodside, Dr. Darryl Apps, retired recently. He sold his entire stock of daylilies to Robert Blew one of the owners of Centerton Nursery. They had to relocated the entire stock of HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of daylilies to their nursery, and as a result, currently Woodside is not open to the public and is only mail-order. Their intention is to eventually reopen in their new location to the public. I'm on their mailing list and will be first in line when they send out the notice of their re-opening. Woodside's stock of daylilies is one of the best in the country. Dr. App's bred incredibly beautiful cultivars of daylilies. Almost all the daylilies in my collection are from Woodside. Prior to the closing of the original Woodside location, each year I took an increasingly large group of friends with me there and got them all hooked on Dr. App's plants too. We were very lucky to have a breeder of Dr. App's caliber in this area. Highly recommend daylily collectors and avid gardeners check out Wayside.

I live out in the boonies, and my favorite garden centers are a long drive from my house. I was in…read morea hurry last week, so I decided to give South Jersey Landscape Supply a shot because it was close. I would rather patronize a locally owned business than a national chain like Lowe's or Home Depot, so that's why I chose SJLS. I worked for several years in the greenhouse/landscape supply business, and I was immediately impressed by the large selection of pavers and edging. Theyve got a much bigger selection than most places in the area. After my experience there, I'd venture to say their stone and concrete products accounts for the greatest part of their business because they leave their annual and perennial section completely unstaffed. When I arrived, I drove through the concrete section first and it was a hive of activity, lots of employees about. Once I drove over to the parking area, adjacent to the plant section, I only saw one employee. She finished up a transaction with the only other customer in the area, then vanished. She knew I was there and never acknowledged me. No problem; I don't like being hovered over anyway. Twenty minutes later, I had selected my plants and was ready to check out. I stood around for about 5 minutes and couldn't find an employee. Finally, I saw a guy from the stone section coming my way, so I figured he see me there looking desperate for help and would radio the person who was supposed to be manning the nursery. 5 minutes later I was still standing there waiting for help, and not an employee in sight. After wasting THIRTY minutes of my time, I put my plants back, got in the car and went to Lowe's. For as ignored as the nursery area is, I probably could have filled my trunk with plants and left unnoticed. As I said, I used to work in the industry and I know it's a backbreaking job and employees have a lot of ground to cover. But it is UNACCEPTIBLE to leave a sales area unmanned for a half hour. I will not be going back.

I'm sharing this as a caution for anyone ordering bulk deliveries from Garoppo's…read more I scheduled a 4-ton gravel delivery and was told by the manager that it would arrive, late Monday afternoon. Instead, the driver showed-up Monday morning, while my phone ringer was off, since I wasn't expecting anything at that time. When I didn't answer his repeated calls, the driver went ahead and dumped the entire load of gravel in a single spot, of his (or their) choosing, on my property, without any direction from me. My intention had been for me to be present when he arrived, in order to guide him on where to dump multiple gravel piles along specific areas, where I know that the gravel is needed. When I saw and questioned the delivery driver, after he dumped my gravel, he pointed his finger at me and said that he had called me several times, and he then told me to take it up with the manager. The manager politely later acknowledged to me that there had been a delivery-time change. The problem is; I hadn't been notified of that change. While I understand that mistakes happen, what concerned me most was the driver's decision to enter my property and proceed without my authorization, and with his reaction afterward, which came across as dismissive and possibly driven by frustration. This created extra work and inconvenience, on my end. If you're ordering from Garoppo's, I recommend being very clear about you expecting their delivery timing to be accurate, and about them making sure, first, that you're available when their delivery truck arrives, because their delivery arrival times -based upon what I experienced, seem to be -apparently, whenever they decide to deliver, instead of when you previously have agreed to a delivery window of time. Based upon my experience, if there's any miscommunication, or if you miss a call from the delivery driver, the driver may dump materials wherever he chooses, on your property, instead of waiting for your instruction or instead of the driver just returning your order to the store. Other than that, the in-store staff at Garoppo's are always polite, friendly, and helpful. All of the above are my opinions.
