I called several medical offices and found it difficult to get a quick appointment as a new patient with a dermatologist. Coastal Dermatology had a cancellation, and slid me in to see Madelyn Ferlazzo, PA, right away. If I had to find something to nitpick: I did overhear another staff member speaking with an older client and she was quite unprofessional. Don't know the backstory there, but it might have been better to take their conversation to a more private space. Also, they were booked out 3 months for a preventative exam, but then didn't confirm my appointment in any way. A few days later I received a notice of a bill for the Botox which was paid for at the time of the visit. I had to call back 3 times to get this resolved. Then I received an explanation of benefits from my insurance for the Annual Exam. I have an Dermatology visit every year because I have had skin cancer and it has ALWAYS been covered. This year the EOB said I owed $175. I called Blue Cross to explain it was an annual visit and they indicated the office did not bill it that way. When I called the billing department for the office they said they are a specialty office and don't bill for annual visits, they bill as office visit and because I had one area frozen they considered that a procedure. Absolutely insane, I have areas burned off at EVERY annual visit and it is all covered, it is a skin check, at a dermatologist....and I have NEVER BEEN BILLED because annual visits are covered.
