BEWARE' A family member took a cherished and valuable Mini to them for refurbishment work; a figure of £2,000 was quoted verbally for the work in hand by one of the Birk family but this was not adhered to: Unfortunately a proper written estimate was not obtained for the work quoted for, several stage payments were made which took the payment made to £2600, well over the figure first quoted. Once the work was completed a final invoice figure of over £11000 'Eleven thousand pounds' was produced. When the invoice was questioned things turned nasty and it was a case of pay up or lose the car..... There were no offers to negotiate and a rent was levied for storage of £150 per week making the actual sum requested over £14000. Needless to say the young person who commissioned Derek's Minis to do the work on the Mini was unable to pay and the car was lost. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE. Make certain you obtain a FIRM written estimate for any work quoted for by these 'individuals' Note the absence of a proper Website or even an accessible Facebook page. The work is done to a good standard but you would expect this to be the case if there is half a chance that you might end up with the car to sell off. read more
