    We called Robin Townsend out to our three year old Candy drier in June as it had started…read moremalfunctioning and was out of warranty. When we telephoned we asked if he was familiar with the make and he assured us that he could repair all brands. When he arrived he dismantled the machine and changed the capacitor as he said this usually fixed most problems. However the machine was still not working properly and he told us that the electric motor was shorting and ''beyond economical repair'' but not to worry as he could source a new drier for us. When we inquired if his prices were competitive with those on the internet he told us he couldn't match them, we asked if he would consider deducting his call out fee if we let him supply a new one and he said he would not. We then said we would source our own replacement and he became very surly and left. We were not happy with Townsend's assessment as the drier's motor did continue to work intermittently. Subsequently we discovered that we did have a five year manufacturer's parts warranty on the machine. A manufacturer's engineer then attended on and found that there was no fault with the motor, the problem lay with a defective control box which he replaced and left the machine working satisfactorily. The manufacturer's engineer told us that he had never known a motor to fail on this model of drier. We have since attempted to contact Townsend to seek a refund of his call out charge since he had completely misdiagnosed the problem. He has not responded. We consider him to be incompetent.
