While in Salzburg last Monday we stopped by to buy a bottle of Bordeaux. The selection of wine in…read morethis gem was over the top. We ended up buying a bottle of Saint Estephe, one from Chateau de Pez. It was wonderful. The next day around 5:00pm we realized that the next day was May Day and our wine store was going to close and we were almost an hour away. We called and were asked to call right before 6:00 if we were close. We called and actually walked in about 2 minutes before they were to close. So another bottle of excellent wine was in our hands for the next couple of days. A big thanks to the ladies that work so hard to please their customers. You will always be remembered. PS...the Poppyseed shot was pretty good. Look forward to shopping with you again when in Salzburg. Your wine selection is some of the best we have seen. Thanks. Highly recommend this beautiful shop. Prices are reasonable for the quality they offer.

I was greeted by a great beer seller who knew that store back and forth. Craft beer is everywhere and from everywhere. It is the only place in Salzburg where I found a selection of microbrews. They even had some of my US faves. There is a lounge too where we enjoyed some great local craft beers. Definitely worth the trip!

When I was in Salzburg in late May, my fiancé and I knew that we had to stop by for a schnapps tasting. This is one of the oldest family run businesses in Salzburg I believe and it was AWESOME! Everyone who worked there was so friendly and let us taste multiple of their favorite flavors before we purchased a bottle. Do not just walk by Sporers, make sure to go in, order a schnapps and enjoy the day!

I was traveling with my two college-aged children, and we had just visited Eagle's Nest (which is…read morevery nearby). We figured, if we are in Germany, we might as well learn about schnapps! It is very easy to find and a very colorful building. We didn't take the tour, but went right into the gift shop and started looking around. I have never seen so many flavors of schnapps in my life! Everything came in the little, miniature bottles, as well as medium and larger sized bottles. They have trays of samples throughout the store of 6-7 different types that you can try with small, almost thimble sized shot glasses. If you want to try a sample of a flavor not on the trays, just go up to the bar area in the middle of the store and ask for it. We tried several samples at the bar - the legal drinking age is 16 for beer/wine, 18 for alcohol. My kids are 19 and 21 (although they look younger), so they asked me if they were old enough and I said yes and that was that - no checking of ID's or anything. We settled on the Blood Orange Schnapps (which was delicious!) and the miniature bottles are 1 euro each which was quite a bargain we thought. After you leave the store don't go right back to your car - behind the store is the most amazingly clear river. You can stand on an overlook to see it - and it is literally clear! You can see every rock, pebble or fish all the way to the bottom and it was just gorgeous! So make sure you take a look. Definitely stop here to taste some German culture!
