Der Verrückle Eismacher was the only ice cream spot we tried in Munich. They have two other locations in the city. We dropped in on a Thursday afternoon (around 4:15pm). The Alice in Wonderland theme is interesting with mushroom painted tables, cheshire cat decor, etc. Service isn't the friendliest unless you ask specifically for guidance. Our server didn't explain any of the flavours but we heard another server go through everything with a different group. There were 18 flavours to choose from (all labelled in German). Prices are €1,80 single, €3,50 double, €5,00 triple and €6,50 quadruple. Cones are €1,00 extra. They also have drinks but I didn't see a single person order them. - Double scoop (€3,50) - we went with apfelpfannkuchen (apple pancake) and erdbeer kalamansi (strawberry and kalamansi). For our free taster, we chose the Augustine's hell (their beer flavour) which was better than expected. The kalamansi was tart and tangy. I'm surprised they had it as you don't see kalamansi often. The apple pancakes was just as described. Will satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth. Cash only. 3.5 stars. read more

Great ice cream shop with both regular and experimental flavors. Regular flavors may be something like Mango or Oreo while experimental could be like Vanilla and Bacon (I had this one and it was actually quite good). Prices are probably a little high but still acceptable (three scoops in a cup for €4.50). It is nice that they give an "extra-flavor" on the spoon in addition to your choice. It is a good way to try some other risky flavor. Staff is friendly and the service is quick, which is good considering the long line you may have to do. Bring cash since they don't take cards. read more

I loved this place. They have some excellent traditional flavors and some very interesting off the wall flavors. On this visit I tried the Augustiner Bier flavor and it was excellent. It was refreshing and definitely had a taste of beer. One of my co-workers even tried the meat flavored ice cream. This is a great place to try some daring flavors. read more

I've had a lot of ice cream in my days, so when my friend told me that this place was the best in the city, I knew I had to try it out! The concept is really fun. The ice cream flavors are known to be unique, for example the day I went I tried the guacamole flavor. It surprisingly tasted exactly like it with the savory taste, except it somehow was in ice cream form! APPLE PANCAKE: delicious! Kind of regret getting a whole scoop of this since I was over it after half the scoop, but still a great flavor and the apple tastes so fresh! SHOKO KINDER EGG: ah, how could I not get the Kinder flavor while in Germany? I loved this one because it was a fun take on a classic chocolate one. There were tiny bits of Kinder Egg and not overwhelmingly sweet either! Another cool thing is that you get another free sample spoonful of anything to top it all off! Such a fun place. Yes I've had better, but this place is a must if you're in the area! Don't forget to try the homemade chocolate waffle cones. read more

Ok for novelty value and decor this place scores high marks. However for flavour it has a bit more to go before they get there. An unusual shop with interesting frescoes and writing on the walls. The furniture inside is also unusual and cool / quirky. They have a lot of flavours and I think some flavours are best to leave out unless you can perfect it. Blending savory and sweet is very hard whilst this is commonplace in Asian food this is more recent in European food and this is clearly evident at this place. I tried their Leberkaseeis and it was too salty and not enough sweet. The flavour was also too strong as a result. I have had lots of unusual ice creams before like lobstereis and baconeis and avocadoeis etc and it is hard to get these combinations right but when done well it can be quite good. Unfortunately for me this was not good. I also had the pistachioeis which was nice but again lacked that intense pistachio flavour I like in ice cream. I would probably come back here again to try some of the unusual flavours to see how this place evolves however I live very close to some great ice cream shops and won't need to rush back here soon :-) read more

Yes, it lives up to its name. Along unusual but more expected flavors like Mozart-Kugeln ice cream you will find flavors such as Rose Champagne, Gluhwein, Käsespaetzle, Cheeseburger...they are worth at least trying with the free extra spoonful you're offered and I've liked them much more than I thought I would. The more conventional flavors like lemon and pistachio are also very good. Be brave and give it a go. read more

I love one-of-a-kind places + this place is definitely one-of-a-kind = I definitely love this place! This ice cream parlor is quirky with the interior (Alice in Wonderland-inspired?) but comfortable to enjoy many homemade ice cream flavors ranging from the ordinary combinations like pistachio or white chocolate to the slightly different like walnut + figs or champagne + strawberry to the "verrückte" (aka crazy) flavors like "Steckerlfisch" (grilled fish on a stick) and "Leberkäse" (meat dish), blergh! I'm not adventurous with ice cream, so I didn't try the crazy flavors. But I did try the Ferraro Rocher and white chocolate, and they were creamy and flavorful! If I pass by this place (even if it's snowing and it's ice cold), I will stop for a scoop or two! read more

Alice in Wonderland themed ice-cream parlour near Universistat. This place is well known for unusual ice-cream flavours but it just ice-cream heaven! I chose two scoops and hot chocolate / cherry and cookies. They then give you a free sample and you can choose another flavour. I chose Asparagus ice-cream. The flavour was so strange because you don't think you should be eating asparagus that way but I have to say it was really really good. The girl behind the counter was really nice and also gave us another free sample but she picked for me. She picked a champagne flavour and omg wow! I ended up going for a second helping and chose the champagne one for my second round. I'd say the queues are crazy when the weather is anyway good but you should definitely visit here!!! read more

Saw a pic of an ice cream on my tourist map and decided if it was good enough to get onto a map it was worth checking out. I was not disappointed. I went fairly basic with my flavours getting kinder chocolate and Lindt chocolate (Both were to die for), I then went a little more adventurous on my free sample and asked them to give me anything.. I got some sort of beer flavour which was terrible but that's the fun in this place. Where else could you try beer flavoured ice cream. I paid 4 euro for 2 scoops which I thought was worth it for the quality. I'd definitely check this place out, even if just for the novelty of trying something weird. read more

Honestly, there's nothing too special about this ice cream parlour. Kind of seems like visitors or tourists just hop onto the hype train. Just regular tasting ice cream. Weird thing is that they only let you sample 1 flavour, even if you get multiple scoops - doesn't make too much business sense imo. Giving it a 1 star because of the overhyped expectations. Firstly the girl that served us was extremely friendly which set the scene for the scrumptious ice creams that were screaming out eat me. Definitely an very original concept with original tastes and even a more original owner. The shop has all the characteristics of a story from Alice in Wonderland. Mushrooms for tables and a Mad Hatter for ice master. The good man explained that he wanted a job where he could always wear his top hat and his previous employer didn't like it so he created this job. Mad tastes like Leberkäse, Bradel, champagne-raspberry, etc I tired the lemon and champagne-raspberry and a spoon of pistachio. Pistachio really tasted of the nuts. Champagne-raspberry wasn't as refreshing as I had imagined it to be. Lemon was very tasty, proper lemon taste without being too sour, but a little bit too creamy for my taste. My preference is usually more in the direction of sherbet, because I find that more refreshing and not too heavy on the stomach. Still a cool ice cream place to try out when you're in the neighbourhood and you fancy something unusual!! My favourite so fast is still Al Teatro in the Reichenbachstrasse. read more

Super awesome and unique place! Mind blowing that ice cream Mathias (the owner) makes tastes exactly like what it's claimed to taste like. For example, lasagna tastes exactly like lasagna, just the texture and temperature are different, and so on. People there are super friendly, if you get the owner (the guy in the hat) to sell you ice cream, he's super enthusiastic and smiley as well. My favorites are gluhwein ice cream, lemon, and, surprisingly, Parmesan flavoured ice cream. Prices are really reasonable, if not low. One scoop is €1.50. Overall, if you're in Munich, you should definitely visit this place! I bet you're up for a surprise! read more

If you're not a fan of over-the-top things....then perhaps this is not the icecream shop for you. I, however, applaud this man's vision to give you an absolutely weird experience you won't forget. Step through the door and enter Icecream in Wonderland; with no detail left untouched, it may overload your senses (but in the best way possible). I was greeted by a super friendly and bubbly girl who was quite patient with my three friends and I while we were choosing our flavors. While I was boring and chose two scoops of "safe" flavors, one Cookies and the other Rocher, one of my friends was daring enough to try a bit of Kaesespaetzle flavor (and of course I had to try a bit of hers). Yep, just as I suspected....it tasted just like it. Not my cup of tea, BUT I think the novelty of it is pretty cool. As we were leaving, Der Verrueckte Eismacher himself exploded from the back office wearing his signature top hat and pink jacket. It made me so happy to see someone sooooo excited about his business. I also love the fact that he doesn't charge that much money :D Those two factors will certainly bring me back here on those days when I need my icecream fix! Anxiously went to try out this ice creamery as there are always constant lines out to front. Not sure how it has such high reviews. There are SO many other amazing gelateria's in Munich that are worth the visit. Why didn't I like the Ice cream? I'm open to many different random flavours, however here i was put off by seeing a Salami flavour. But i didnt want to judge. My friend wasn't enticed to try any other flavour, but i was still keen. And then seriously disappointed. I'm no expert in making Eis, however I know the concept - and the taste of making it with full cream and milk. And this is exactly all i ate at this Eismacher. It was literally just cream with flavouring. I didn't even finish it - as it didn't have much taste, nor did it have that feeling of eating great gelato where you don't want it to end. a bit mistake was also to have a little try to Augustiner Bier flavour. Left a horrible taste in my mouth. It is also a bit more expensive than other much better gelateria's. read more

I was very impressed with the service and the ice cream. Although the place was incredibly busy, we got our ice cream pretty fast and it was fantastic! I had a chocolate-pear ice cream with walnuts Also, they offer free samples without you having to ask, which I find really nice and good for their business. Nothing special. There are hundreds of other ice cream places in Munich that make better ice cream.

A bit disappointing, I found the ice cream to be average. The service was friendly and fast and I liked that after you ordered your flavor(s) you were given a free sample of your choice to o along with your purchase. In the US, though, a free sample to try a flavor, before you buy is the norm. There are two locations and we went to the one by the University. The other is a small stand at Viktualienmarkt. The line out the door was unending. Muencheners love their sweets! Seating inside is ample but on this very warm Spring day the norm was for most to buy and go to enjoy the weather (Muenchners also love their outdoors, al fresco dining and so on and seem obsessed - it couldn't be a weather thing because when it was cold at night the outdoor cafes and squares were still packed). Back to the ice cream and we found all the flavors average and seemed to have a lower milk fat content than superior ice creams. I do have to give them high marks for their marketing concept of unusual flavors. I tried the beer flavor (which did not taste anything like beer) but no way I would try the sauerkraut flavor. In general, we were disappointed in the Gelato and ice cream of this region as the flavors were either too strong or too muted. One question - why are the utensils given to eat the ice cream little shovels rather than spoons? read more

What a happy and pleasant environment. I came this weekend, not once but twice with friends and was always greeted with a smile, a hello, and a man dressed in a pink bunny costume. What more could I ask for? A selection of delicious flavours with a few interesting ones thrown in. Such as fish, or Radler. The shop itself is set up in an Alice in Wonderland theme, mushroom tables, top hat candle holders, etc. A nice place to sit down and hope to come back on another trip to Munich. read more
