Oktoberfest absolutely needs to be on everyone's bucket list! If you're thinking about going next year, start planning early in the year. I booked my hotel in January, and if you want to reserve a table in one of the tents, you'll want to take care of that early as well.
We spent 2 1/2 days at Oktoberfest, staying at a nice hotel in Munich and taking the train to the festival each day. The train was easy and convenient.
And let me give you one very important piece of advice: If you go to Oktoberfest, you need to buy yourself some lederhosen! If you don't wear lederhosen, you don't deserve to drink the beer!
Our first day was really about getting the lay of the land. We rode some of the rides, and WOW, I had no idea how many rides and attractions they had! Of course, we had a few beers along the way.
Important tip: You need to be sitting at a table to order beer. We spent the first half of the day sitting at non-reserved tables, which worked out great.
And while you're enjoying those giant beers, make sure you try the local food. The rotisserie pork knuckles are AMAZING and an absolute must-have! Add some brats, cheese, and several giant pretzels, and you've got yourself one incredible meal.
A few things to remember:
You need to be sitting at a table to order beer.
- Bring plenty of cash--tables are cash only.
- Try the local food--you won't regret it.
- You can stand on the benches, but do NOT stand on the tables!
- Tip your servers well. Take care of them, and they'll take care of you!
Oktoberfest was an incredible experience, and I can't recommend it enough. The atmosphere, the people, the food, the rides, the music, and, of course, the beer make it something you'll never forget.
Start planning early, get your lederhosen, reserve your hotel and table, and get ready for an amazing time!
Prost!!
