But at 1am in the morning I was willing to take what I could get. Fast forward to today when I decided to give the franchise another chance. The difference between the Amsterdam and Maastricht franchise locations are like night and day. Maastricht's New York pizza was clean, efficient and professional. The five employees worked in perfect tandem fulfilling orders, making pizzas, ringing up customers on the register and handing off boxes of steaming pizza to the delivery boy. My Tomato Pesto pizza arrived within 10 minutes of placing my order. Crust was buttery, tomatoes were flavorful, and pesto was not overpowering. Price of individual pizza was 8 Euro. Meine vorletzte Lieferung und die davor kamen gleichzeitig an, einmal per Urbify und einmal geliefert. Ich habe eigentlich einen zweiwöchigen Rhythmus und dann auf einmal doppelt so viel erhalten, das dann 4 Wochen lang halten soll. Was war da die Idee? Alles einfrieren? Gemeldet hat sich dazu niemand. Es wurde wohl einfach geschaut, ob der Kunde sich beschwert. Abgemacht war ohnehin nach sehr schlechten Erfahrungen mit ihren Kurierdiensten (früher Angel, jetzt Urbify, beides Müll), dass ich nur noch von der Bauerntüte persönlich gelieferte Kisten erhalte. Das war dann aber scheinbar plötzlich egal. Heute kam wieder eine Lieferung per Urbify um 21 Uhr. Der Fahrer hat die Kiste einfach ins Treppenhaus geworfen, nachdem er mehrere Stunden zu spät war und sturm geklingelt hat. Wie kann man nur so viel falsch machen?

Spicy, yes, but still enjoyable. I really liked it and everyone else at the table loved it, too. I got it with tofu, which had a nice texture, maybe a little chunky. We also ordered classic Phad Thai, and Phad phak luom with beef. These were also good, but the Phad Ki Mau was the star of the show. Ordering was a breeze through thuisbezord.nl and within less than half an hour we had our food, still hot. The only thing you can argue about now is the price. Main dishes are between 16€ and 18€, which is also much more than the prices found on their website. I found it a bit pricey, but given the good quality and large portion sizes (we had leftovers for lunch the next day), I'm still ok with it. Plus, we got a discount (not sure why though). Overall a good experience, and if I wasn't moving, I would totally stop by here more often.

The baozi were excellent, very fluffy dough which was a tiny bit sweet, just like it's supposed to be, and the filling was also amazing. I also loved the Di San Xian and the mushrooms, and while I don't eat meat, the Mapo Tofu was apparently also delicious. The tofu also came smoking hot, with the oil still bubbling while it was being brought to the table. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere too, the interior is nice and I lived that there was quiet instrumental music playing. The staff was also friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for the food (although since the restaurant was very empty as we had dinner very early, there's a possibility this could be different when it's busy). Overall, the only thing I think could have been better is that I would have loved a few more vegetarian options. I am aware, that even in China a lot of restaurants focus much more on meat and fish dishes, but there are also so many delicious vegetarian dishes. I'll definitely be back, and next time I want to try the wild garlic with egg and the vegetarian noodles :)
