We had a nice and enjoyable meal at the Dorfwirt this evening. It is a small, traditional restaurant in a small-ish country village outside Salzburg (20-30 minutes by car), and seemed to have lots of locals there on a Friday night.
Its (self-given?) nickname is "your schnitzel paradise", and fully half the menu items are schnitzel-related, so I felt it would only be right to get the schnitzel (they only serve pork and turkey schnitzel, no veal). The schnitzel was good, and it was certainly a huge portion (served with potatoes), although I'm not sure I'd say it was "paradise", exactly. The side salad that came with it was remarkably good, though!
My daughter had the trout, which she enjoyed but seemed slightly over cooked to me. My wife had the spinach dumplings with Gorgonzola sauce, and enjoyed them. The desserts were fine but not outstanding. The ambiance is nice (kind of a "contemporary carpentry" vibe), and the server was very friendly and attentive. I would go back again, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more
