I recieved my OW certification from Depth Perceptions back in 1991, and have continued to share my great experiences with this dive shop since. My young nephew is now going through his certifications, and I'm again reminded just how awesome this shop is. The owner Chuck is the nicest guy. He always goes above and beyond in helping clients out. From fitting gear, to sharing stories, he's incredibly helpful and never pushy. His heart is always in it. On top of that, he's a legend in the community. All the dive professionals I know (marine bio, search and rescue, etc) recommend Chuck, for good reason. The shop itself is well stocked with the highest quality gear, and Chuck stands by all rentals, purchases, and services. This makes it well worth continuing to support the shop, because he'll be there when you need it. My nephew's instructor Kim W has been AMAZING too. She has infinite patience and her highest priority is creating safe and knowledgable divers. Zero rushing through any of the material. We're planning for a trip up the coast in the next couple of months and thought it would be a good idea to ask what spots they might recommend and what gear to have. The owner was really helpful and didn't try and sell us a bunch of unnecessary stuff, In fact he gave us some great ideas on how to save money on gear. I still need some things before the trip but when we do come back up I will definitely be giving him our business. I gotta say: I love this shop! Chuck's THE MAN for scuba rentals & purchasing gear. His prices are pretty decent, he has a very decent selection for a beginner diver such as myself. Chuck is an awesome guy. I just ran through SLO for some dives with a friend, and we went to Depth Perceptions for tanks and some random knick-knacks. Chuck was a really helpful and pointed us in the direction of some great diving on a pretty nasty weekend. Also, I lost some some gear while diving, so I left my info with him and description of the item lost. This morning he called, telling me the good news that it was found and that he'd hold it for my buddy to pick up. What are the chances?! Anyway Chuck is a great guy, really helpful. Good selection of gear, but more importantly, what he has is very reasonably priced. I've been to many shops and looked online a lot, and Depth Perceptions prices are pretty good for a small dive shop. This is an amazing store. Not only do they have a large inventory of gear in stock, but they can order special items quickly if needed. But the best part of this shop isn't the awesome merchandise but the staff. Owner Chuck Rawlinson is very dedicated to his business and to anyone else interested in snorkeling or diving. He approached me shortly after walking into the store and was very knowledgeable about all the products in the store as well as the necessary gear for a trip I was planning. He was very patient and went over every detail about the equipment they had in stock with me. We took some extra time and looked at dive masks. He was very well trained and focused on finding the right fit for me. Chuck was more than willing have me try on every mask to find a handful of potential best fits, then with great skill, he explained what I should be looking for with regards to fit and helped me find the perfect mask for my face shape. The staff at Depth Perceptions went on to field many questions I had about snorkeling gear, diving gear, courses offered, and spearfishing. I also found out Depth Perceptions offers monthly activities such as scuba themed movie nights and diving socials.Their training staff is highly specialized in all aspects of scuba diving and even work with salvaging and the local sheriffs department. Because of their dedication and skill I am really looking forward to attending a free dive day. That's right; FREE. They have such passion for diving every so often they will let anyone join them at a local pool and try diving for free. This is just another example of how great this business is and the lengths they will go to help their customers.
