Tmc Hospice - My dear wife. May God accept her as the special person that she was to all of us.

She has suffered a terrible fall that resulted in an internal carnial bleed. The TMC ER/ICU could not save her but the Peppi's House was able to provide her some comfort. Victoria, the case coordinator, handled all the administrative paperwork from start to end, let us know what other services (like counseling) were available, and helped us find the right mortuary. We would have been so lost with out her help. I hope that when the time comes in every family, there will be a hospice service as good as Peppi's house available. I'm also going to give a shout out to the TMC nurses and doctors - all excellent, caring providers there, too.

Be advised that when a representative of Peppi's House tells you and your loved one that their goal…read moreis to make them comfortable, their definition of comfortable is being drugged to the point of being comatose. No matter if your loved one is writhing in agony from pain, pleading for the pain to end and/or is barely coherent, or your loved one is very much alert and coherent and is not in agonizing pain, the staff at Peppi's House will drug your loved one to the point of being completely unresponsive. My mom was one such person. She was absolutely 100% alert and as soon as she was transferred from the hospital to this hospice house and I went to visit her, she was comatose. Despite my multiple requests for them to not give her any narcotic, or even a quarter of what they were giving her, they persisted. Multiple employees stated that they were there to keep patients comfortable for as long as it takes, whether it takes two days to two weeks. I found that time line very odd and rather specific. So, there you have it folks, at Peppi's House, expect your loved one to be drugged into a coma (even if that's not what they wanted) and then with no food, or water, or any IV drip, their heart will cease to beat within 2 days to 2 weeks. I find this practice to be despicable and unethical.

When I became a 24/7 caregiver for my elderly father, I expected I could handle it alone. I love my…read moredad and wanted to do my best for him. As his care needs, memory loss and dementia events increased, and his mobility decreased, I could not keep up. I couldn't get enough quality sleep. There was never enough time in the day to get everything done. He had so many medical appointments each week! My mental health took a dive as I realized that my commitment to my dad meant that things would only get harder for both of us. I had no idea how I would make it through. After an extensive internet search, I called Home Care Assistance of Tucson. As one of the owners, Mark, described their services to me, one thing in particular stuck out. He said that that their aim was that the caregiver would become, in a way, part of our family. In speaking with Katie, the case manager, during a home visit, she said the same thing. She also said that while I might feel, for a few weeks, that I needed to treat their caregivers like company by putting things away or cleaning up, but that I would soon relax and accept them in without making an extra work for me. I decided to give them a try. It was then (thank God) that Patricia entered our lives and became my dad's caregiver. Since that time, I have tripled the hours I started with as my dad's needs increase. Pati knows us so well now. She knows how to get my dad to eat and drink. She knows now to get him to laugh and to share his life memories. She knows what music to play. She handles his shower, which both my dad and I are so relieved by (no more dad/daughter embarrassment). She and my dad have their own jokes, stories, and (even) dances! She takes him out for lunch or a movie or one of their "adventure rides" when I need some alone time. She has even taken him to the dentist. She also knows me now. She knows when I just need to sleep or when I need to get out and have some fun in order to remember who I was before I became a caregiver. Pati uses the information she has learned from the regular training provided by Home Care Assistance to point out to me good hygienic practices and over the counter products like shampoos, soaps, and lotions that might make my dad more comfortable. She has let me know when my dad has rashes or other skin issues which I can then point out to his doctor for medical treatment. I could go on and on with similar examples! Another comfort for me is that Pati has seen many clients exhibit dementia symptoms. So when things my Dad says or does freak me out a bit, she can tell me about her own experiences with dementia which helps me to know that these sort of things can happen. That helps tide me over with my mental state until I can tell his doctor about it. Home Care Assistance also sends substitute caregivers when needed. Patricia (the other owner) and Mary and other office staff answer the phone most times right away and are helpful and lovely to deal with. It is so nice to talk to a real and friendly person! As Mark and Katie told me would happen, Pati has become a true part of our family, standing alongside my Dad and I as we navigate this season of his life. I hope my review gives you a good idea of the commitment to quality care that I have experienced over the past 2 years with Home Care Assistance. For my dad and I, they have lived up to the service levels that they promised when I first contacted them and made a world of positive difference in our lives.
