It's a little strange to leave a review for the only water utility available, but I had an experience today that I think is worth sharing. I mistakenly believed I was enrolled in autopay when I wasn't. That's on me, and I take responsibility for missing the payments. What surprised me was the notification process. I received a single piece of mail indicating that my account was past due, but I didn't receive any email notifications or other alerts warning me that service interruption was imminent. Since I genuinely thought my payments were being handled automatically, I had no reason to suspect there was an issue. When I called to have my water restored, I suggested that Denver Water consider adding clearer alerts, such as email notifications or a more prominent warning on customer accounts. My intention was simply to provide feedback that might help prevent similar situations for others. Instead, I felt like the conversation quickly shifted to being reprimanded for the missed payments. To be clear, I understand that I was responsible for paying the bill. My concern is that the communication process could be improved. In a world where we're constantly warned about scams and fraudulent notices, a single piece of mail can be easy to overlook or question. Additional notifications would make it much more likely that customers are aware of an issue before their water service is shut off. I hope Denver Water considers strengthening its customer alert system. It would likely save both customers and customer service representatives a lot of frustration. read more

Called DW because we suspected a line break in the street. Not hemorrhaging water, but something was amiss. DW was on it. Came out the next day on Nov 7 and it was all fixed in about 6 hours- after having to get folks to move cars, tear up asphalt in two places, dig deeply, patch asphalt, etc. Lots of heavy equipment and many workers. It was a ton of backbreaking work. DW impressively got the job done. Thank you! read more

Horrible phone services into 4 calls And 5 hours later. Bill is not current as they did not do an automatic payment that has been set up for years. Drove to admin building. . Was told no one is available I shouted out to a passing employee. She took my name and number. Leadership should be terminated This will turn out to be a whole day process. read more

Awful, not that it matters because we don't have a choice. they did work in the street in front of my house and my bill skyrocketed. Mysteriously immediately after they worked in front of my house my main started leaking and my usage went up 100 times. All I got was, you can't prove it. No issues for 75 years and to the day they did work my main was damaged and leaked hmmm. Keep an eye on these guys if they work near your house. read more

Denver Water is completely ridiculous. I sincerely hope that you never have any issues with them, because they are absolutely terrible. We moved into our then 42-year-old house in August of 2011. A few months later, we got a notice from Denver Water demanding that we "fix" the yolk holding our water meter, which lives in a pit in the front lawn. Apparently, someone had come out to service/read the meter and found that the meter was too far down for his liking. So we called the water company and said, what's the problem? The meter has been in the same location for 40+ years, why is this an issue now? They gave some BS answer and said we had to raise the meter or they would fine us and turn off our water service. They allowed us to differ the process for six months, so we went ahead and did that, hoping the problem would go away. It didn't. They came back with another notice a while later, after we'd been in the house for close to a year. So we called a plumber to come out and give us a quote. It was going to cost upwards of $1,800 (probably closer to $2,500) because about half of our front yard would need to be excavated in order to gain access to the pit in the first place, plus the actual plumbing work, plus rebuilding the pit and putting the lawn back how it was. We called back Denver Water with this information and told them it was cost prohibitive. They then came back with, well, you can hire us to do the work and it will only cost $500. Why the hell didn't you tell us that in the first place?? Fine, we said. It's money we didn't want to spend, but if it's necessary to keep our service then we really don't have a choice, do we? This whole process took probably another 3-4 months. So we gave them permission to come out and inspect our yard to determine what work needs to be done. As far as I know, no one has come to look at anything. It is now August of 2013, our 2-year move-in anniversary, about 8 months since our last communication with Denver Water. I'm not complaining that they've failed to take any action, since I really don't want them ripping up my front yard, but this whole process has been one giant pain in the ass after another. They have been impossible to deal with at every turn and dropped the ball whenever they were responsible for doing something. The only good thing is that, through all this, our water service has never been interrupted. That's the reason for the second star. If things had gotten much worse during this whole thing this would have been a one-star review. read more

I mean, they're fine! We've never had a problem with our actual service, however the customer service leaves something to be desired. This past summer, after living in our house for 3 years, we noticed a serious spike in our reported water usage. I called Denver Water for clarity, and got no clarity at all. The woman on the phone was very curt, "It looks like average summer water use to me. Your bill will still be due on the regular date." I'm not some scammer. I wasn't even worried about the money. I was worried that we had some weird leak in a part of our house--maybe under it--that we didn't know about. 3k gallons more water per month than the last two years is really suspicious, when we haven't even been watering our lawn or garden. So, nothing got resolved there. But again, the water still flows. read more

We have manhole cover in front of our house that says "DENVER WATER" on it that is faulty and completely insecure. As a result I have fallen into and caused pain/bruising/soreness/swelling/cuts to my entire right leg. Before I fell into the hole myself I've seen several older gentleman fall into the hole. When I reached out to Denver Water they said it's the HOMEOWNER's responsibility to fix this. Um...excuse me? I did not put this manhole cover here nor did I improperly install it. I am really hoping they make it right and have someone come fix it. We have children in our neighborhood and it's imperative that no one else fall into this hole. What do we pay for as taxpaying citizens? Where does our tax money go? read more

I have lived in Denver for almost 50 years and never had to call for help with Denver Water but when my lead supply line for my house built in 1892 failed they sent an emergency team to check on my problem. They installed a temporary line so my tenants had water service and came back in a few days with LOTS of special equipment to install a new service line. All OF THE TECHNICIANS WERE POLITE, PROFESSIONAL AND EFFICIENT. I love these guys. read more

I have had nothing but bad experience and poor customer service with Denver Water, it is your typical poorly run and poor customer care organization. Their system are out of date, you can't even transfer accounts. They won't let you transfer accounts to a rentor, so a rent can not pay their bills and you are on the hook with little recourse. read more

Crooks - they raise their rates every year. Already raising for 2014 in the aftermath of record waterfall in the fall of 2013 as evidenced by our state's destructive flooding - what did they do with all that water? Several years ago they asked us to conserve - we did. What was the reward? More expensive water since they could not bring enough revenue to cover their costs after our efficient conservation efforts. Why not lay off a few administrators instead of increasing consumer burden? I am all for conserving water, but if our rewards are more expense, and increasing supplies also cost more - I see zero incentive - might as well use it up. Monopoly - no where else to go. read more

I would like to compliment The Denver Water crew that was working on my block the last 2 weeks. Jake Morton's crew on the 1700 block of So Elm St was professional, respectful and timely. I want to thank them for acknowledging my grandchildren and took a moment to say hi. They completed the work in less time then we were told and kept us informed when water would not be available. You hear about 1 man working while 9 stand around. I now understand why it looks that way. all the heavy machinery that is needed for these old pipes and the precision work it takes they can't all be doing it at the same time.
