I was a tad nervous going into my appointment…read more Had neglected checkups for 20 + years. Was in their area working, away from home. Came across an issue could no longer ignore and looked up dentists in the area, made an appointment for the next day. Was amazed how simple and easy they made the insurance. In 6 + years with company hadn't used insurance. Work remote, travel construction away from the corporate office and HR. Looked up my benefits on our system, printed off a screen shot of what it showed for me. Took this into my appointment. The lady at the front desk took the screen shot I printed off and said "i'll fill all this out for you. Go ahead and take a seat." Less than 10 minutes later I was getting Xrays. They really made me feel at ease. From going over the Xrays and explaining my options and outcomes of each. Was quick and painless. Were really friendly and there to answer any questions. When done left me with a prescription to avoid infection. And instructions on what I should do to ensure the best recovery. Went over in detail what I should do to ensure recovery. Let me know if had any issues after I leave, or questions, or concerns, to call or stop back in. Although I just happend to have stopped in as was working in the area. I would highly recomoned anyone who lives in the Brookings SD or surrounding area to make Knutzen Family Dentistry their dentist. I can't imagine better dental care anyone in our country. Knutzen Family Dentistry is top notch all the way around. -Jeff Steffen

It seemed like the doctors and assistants were more concerned with their conversations than being gentle. Offered the TV just to talk over it... Also, when I came in for a cleaning the assistant kept scraping my gums very hard...again I've never had that during past cleanings so it felt unnecessary and done on purpose to cause pain. I mistakenly referred my mom to come here and they missed a diagnosis of a gum disease she had which eventually lead to tooth loss. Overall very unprofessional and shouldn't be open at all in my opinion. I've since transferred to 10th street dental and they're amazing !! From the sweet assistants always asking if everything's going fine to the doctor being informative and giving great advice !

My first issue was with the constant conversations the assistants and dentists were having while working on me. I understand some here and there but it was the entire experience. Nothing related to dentistry or my care. I needed fillings so had to be numbed. It was very quick and painful. I had never felt so much pain before like this previously with other doctors. It seemed very aggressive and little to no care about how I felt or made me more comfortable. During those times I was having my mouth rinsed and the assistant was almost drowning me. I choked a few times and they did pause to let me catch my breath but it didn't change. I even had some pieces left when it was over that I could feel from the fillings. It made me feel awful. I left with multiple cuts on the inside of my cheeks that lasted for days. I wanted to cry but I just wanted to get it over with so I just put up with it and tried my best not to choke before they were done. There was no full attention on me it seemed and when there was it wasn't caring. There were always women around hanging out and gossiping about their lives. I heard more about their lives than I did on the reality show on TV. I was scared already of dentists before and this made it even worse. I found a new dentist at a different location. The treatment is way kinder and empathetic to me. The numbing was even done slowly and carefully so as not to cause me any pain. It made a huge difference to me and, unfortunately, I didn't experience that with Dakota Dental.
