    And finally what sausage and egg breakfast should look like. There was no presentation at Denny's

    I ordered sausage and eggs for breakfast, sausages were the already cooked ones and they are tiny compared to what is normally served. Those sausages look like the ones that are used for free breakfast in a lot of hotels I've stayed at. The eggs were undercooked to a point you can slurp it through a straw. I gave it another chance the next day and they messed up my order, not to mention I found a couple strands of hair on top of the omelet. Guess they don't follow the food safety guidelines as to wearing caps or hair nets, or the barrier type that goes over the beard and moustache. It was clearly evident it came from the cooks beard. I strongly suggest eating somewhere else in Prince George. I know management will reply with an apology but that doesn't mean anything till I see cooks either wearing hats, hair nets, barriers over the beard and moustache or clean shaven. And that they should stop using precooked foods and calling it fresh. Just their way of trying to save the almighty dollar. I highly doubt that all the cooks at denny's are schooled in culinary arts or food safe. The pics I posted is what a breakfast should look like, it shouldn't look like everything was just slapped on the plate. Presentation accounts for a percentage of good food, not just taste

    I don't know what go say. It's Dennys. It's your typical Dennys. Good service. Way better than what I'm use to. Had the fit fare skillet. It was tolerable. It way very healthy tasting. What I mean by that is it tasted like sadness. It needed sauce and cheese and yumminess. But I ordered something healthy because I make poor life choices.

    Was seated quickly and greeted Friendly. Food was good. No sugar at my table. No jams at the table. Picked up my sugar from another table. Server was pleasant. Once food was delivered I never saw her again. Coffee ran dry and the manager came by and asked me if I wanted coffee when he was clearing my table. Next time I saw my server was when she was dropping off my bill. Never asked if I wanted anything else. Overall- food Good clean environment. Service - not the greatest

    Denny's is open 24 hours if it's late and you want to go out and know that there is just good food, it is there calling your name.

    OAKROOM GRILL It…read moremight have been a relic from a previous building, but there's a walkway behind the restaurant that leads right to a window. I wonder if there's a metaphor there. When first hearing the name Oakroom, one wouldn't be mistaken imagining whiskey barrels, a wine tasting bar, auburn tones floor to ceiling perhaps. Don't agree? Enter "Oakroom" on Google image search and see what comes up. Unfortunately, this place is called Oakroom Grill, and thoughts degrade to a simulacrum of commonly found franchises like Original Joes, Earls, and Moxie's. It was almost a brilliant name. We had reservations at 8:00; the pace was surprisingly full, and we were directed swiftly to our table. We felt small, not that we felt our influence was diminished in some way, legitimately small. The nearby booths were elevated, but the central tables were not, and with the ceiling fifteen feet over our heads, we felt like we were banished to the kid's table. When I visited the restroom, I felt like a giant. Speaking of those, the bathrooms were that new style where all the utilities are built into a toilet stall. And is it weird that they have utility plugs in there...I mean, are people shaving? After these initial impressions, we had a moment to glance at the menu, the absurdly generic menu. Oh sure, they renamed certain dishes, angry meatballs, angry bird chicken--what is this, The View? I don't require my meals to have angst. Who would have thought a menu required therapy? The waitress explained that the dishes read as ordinary, but are given slight twists. However, said twists are not telegraphed in the menu, leaving a variety of options none of which we were excited about. Hold me back--they got bread and dip! My girlfriend wasn't into the dip, so attempted to ask for just bread. Should be easy. It's bread. Apparently bread is not on the menu--we'd have to order the bread and dip sans dip. Seriously, we were told that. As for the rest of us, I've seen restaurants with similar selections that managed to create some measure of interest, one or two dishes that stood out. I eventually closed my eyes and randomly pointed to...Rack of Bourbon Baby Back Ribs--aww, crud. Something else. Sukiyaki Bowl--chicken breast glazed in teriyaki sauce served on Asian veggie medley & jasmine rice. Fine. I also ordered the crispy squishy bites (spring rolls and masala bites). My girlfriend settled on the cod fish and chips while my friend ordered the exotic mushrooms steak with a request for "Chicago Style" (also known as Pittsburgh rare)--a common and easy test for any place claiming to be a grill. At this point, we were still giving the establishment the benefit of the doubt. The remarks about the décor were more humorous than damaging. Elements were impressive. If the menu items are presented well and taste good, a lot of that can be forgiven--even the lackluster menu options can find redemption if they're unique--that twist the waitress was promising. The delivered plates did not fulfill that potential. The fish & chips were passable but ultimately unexciting (I miss Nechako Oyster Bar). My bowl featured undercooked vegetables, and when it said "glazed", it really meant "drenched". And as for the steak--obviously no one knew how to accomplish Chicago-style, but more than that, the meat was of questionable quality (it was overly chewy). We still ended up attempting dessert. I assumed it had to have a sticky toffee or a lava cake. Oh, a brownie tort, close enough. Oakroom Grill, for the lack of a better comparison, is fan art. As an author and an employer of artists, I know this subject all too well. This restaurant is a derivative from a more established franchise. It's imitating them the best it can while twisting a few concepts here and there in order to prevent accusations of outright replication. The décor, the menu, and the presented food all look familiar. Hell even the borderline sexually discriminatory uniforms look lifted from established names. Oakroom Grill's entire concept is to imitate Moxie's, a restaurant located about half a mile down the street. Whether or not it's better is beside the point. On its current footing, Oakroom Grill needs work, meaning the established name wins the day. Food: 2/5 Service: 2.5/5 Presentation: 3/5 Value: 3/5 Recommendation: 2.5/5

    THE FIRM LOUNGE & GRILL…read more Talk about imprudent timing, opening at the sunrise of the pandemic, and having to writhe and wriggle from the gate. Thankfully, the Firm did so within the hull of a sunken juggernaut, the revered Copper Pig. Alas, schedules and the aforementioned writing career prevented me from visiting The Firm until now, a fact I now regret, as it impeded my efforts to ridicule and oversexualize its name. That being said, it was a great film with Tom Cruise. Where was I? Erections? No, The Firm, right. No sex jokes. The first real surprise upon entering was how much they adopted their own personality within the old location. I was half expecting the often used Hannibal Lecter metaphor of walking around in another restaurant's skin, but they really took the effort to stamp their own identity, with the only fragment of the previous Pig being the exposed wood of the ceiling. And while the tables are in the exact location, it feels entirely new, dominated by that bright blue underlit sign slapped under the bar. Patrons even enter through a different door. The booths are generous, shockingly to the point that the more rotund members of our party had no issue wedging ourselves into place around a table that could easily hold eight. And for some reason, we decided to spend a week's wages here. Not sure why...maybe it had been a while since we'd all been out together and ended up throwing caution to the wind. The alcohol flowed quickly and consistently, not in any way prompted by the unforeseen reunion of my wife with an old friend she hadn't seen since my wife's breakup with her ex. Not. Awkward. At all. I'm sure the sudden ordering of a double shot rum and coke was not at all a consequence of that encounter. It prompted a round of fruity and convoluted concoctions mixing bumu, triple sec, empress, mirtillo, vodka, and various berries (not all in one drink; who do think I am, David Hasselhoff?) After ordering the full order charcuterie, I had considered that we would follow that with a series of smaller appetizers, which I assumed after the wife ordered both the bruschetta and the elk carpaccio. A friend tackled the stuffed yorkie (the pastry, not the dog) while another accepted the hot wings challenge. Ordering just appetizers is a practice I enjoy as it really shows off the talent of the resident-- --Oh, we're all still ordering mains? ...Okay, I didn't see that one coming. I guess that means buffalo chicken pasta for me, top sirloin for the wife (not sure where she's gonna pack that), and a pair of Wagyu beef steaks for my two friends. It's shocking how much different a Wagyu tastes compared to top sirloin. They were both fantastic but in different ways. Both the elk carpaccio and the bruschetta were, admittedly, conventional but a perfect encapsulation to why those two dishes are popular in the first place. If there was any criticism to be had, it laid with the charcuterie. There were two options, a single and a group, but I felt the selection was lacking with the latter with only two meats, two cheese, and a trio of sauces with other condiments. If ordering a group charcuterie, I'd want a few more options. What we got was great; I was just expecting a bit more selection; that's selection, not quantity. I'd have taken a reduction in each if it meant more variety. And that was it, a fantastic--oh wait, dessert? You can't seriously...fine, I guess we're ordering dessert. I could say no, but...of course, I didn't, and there arrived a warm chocolate brownie and a pair of fried ice-cream dishes dusted with cinnamon sugar and resting on a fried bowl sitting on whipped cream. We shared, just FYI, but thank god I wore the big pants. I admit that The Firm is conventional, if not a little predictable. But it's far from humdrum, banal, or lethargic. It plays the notes to perfection, a situation where they play a cover song and end up making it better. The Firm is...well... It's like that song, "Nothing Compares 2U". It's a Prince tune, but it was Sinéad O'Connor that made the song a legend. It's not about who does it first, but who does it better. I just hope The Firm doesn't tear up a picture of the pope in front of me. (Yes, I'm back. What can I say? It's been nearly three years, and I found some time between my three successful Kickstarters, which I only mention for the sake of the haters. Thankfully, new businesses have emerged in the interim, with many unfortunately within the carcasses of failed predecessors. Another reason for my return is to encourage people to support local in this time of division, fear, and ignorance. Know that my goal is to convey positive energy to these struggling restaurants, most of which, like many, don't require my review for validation. The Firm is one such location. )
