Don't get me wrong... I love having stores like Veganz in Berlin, but sometimes you just want more…read morevariety in places you can shop an support, particularly if you don't live in the immediate vicinity of a place. So when I found out Dr. Pogo opened, I was thrilled. The Neukölln and Kreuzberg crowd don't have to travel too far to reach this place, and it's a collective, which is a good thing and worth supporting. We ended up visiting three weeks after the opening, so it's still relatively new and has the accompanying problems with streamlining the process, such as those working figuring out the computer system, etc., but nothing to complain about. The selection is good - it's smaller than Veganz and has not as many items, but there are still more vegan options than any given bio store... and the cheese selection is relatively impressive as well. Prices here are hit and miss. While I would not likely pay €8 for a small thing of vegan ice cream, the cheeses, cream cheese, etc., are moderately priced, and in some cases, less expensive than the Bio Company. There is also a bakery section with goods from Maja's Deli (who also offer catering) and one entire section is for things like cosmetics and other beauty products. All in all, I am pretty stoked on this place. Living in Berlin has taught me to either forego or make on my own many of the products I was used to in the states (products which are either not available here or too expensive for my tastes), but I will still come here for the occasional treat or when I really crave vegan cheese. Welcome to the neighborhood, Dr. Pogo! Here is hoping you stick around!

The shop is cute, and the idea of a collective vegan laden is refreshing. However, the people who…read morework there are rude and unfriendly. I live in the neighbourhood and was compelled to buy some things at dr. pogo several times a week. Never have the people working there been friendly. My boyfriend has the same impression. We decided to stop shopping there, and instead buy our things at Bioase44 around the corner. I'm also not for the whole attitude where everyone who's not a vegan is an awful or stupid person, so better for us to shop at a more welcoming place.

Since buying a flat in Kreuzberg three years ago, I've not returned to Berlin. On a sunny Tuesday I…read moretook a stroll on Bergmannstrasse, which of course is the best area (in the world!) for shopping and near my flat. It reminded me of San Francisco's Hayes Valley in the late 90s, packed with cool shops and vibe that is way too hipster to describe. I remember that one sunny morning in 98, I went for brunch at Suppenkuche on Hayes with a German guy and we went to shops not unlike these ones found here. Now as a middle age woman I have resources, options and I get to enjoy everything at face-value. Speaking of face, this place has amazing oils. Organic, and flavorless, and rich with all sorts of great vitamins. I also found the oil for after-shave, meant for men, but great also for ladies, delightful. The hand cream is also super cool and was on sale. In addition to oils, there are also great selection of chocolates, herbs, tea and cool selection of everything in between. Most of everything, if not everything is made in Berlin. The hipster factor is definitely here and price as we all know, is compatible to San Francisco so quite cool to buy and not feeling your pocketbook getting pitched. I like the labels all marked as made in Berlin. I bought things for myself and others. I also chatted with the shop owner who is super sweet. I would highly recommend this store to American tourists (note this is not a touristy store, so more the reason to come here).
