You'll end up getting your wallet gouged. I've gone to Dr. Thorup for almost 5 years now, and originally the experience was great. But over time, it felt like they were trying to extract more and more money out of me rather than actually caring about my care. Most recently, I needed multiple fillings. They had quoted me for over $500 after insurance, and as I went through the pre-treatment plan there was just multiple things that were red flags. First of all, given the amount, I had asked them to submit the plan to my insurance so I could have an educated conversation with my insurance about what would be covered and what wouldn't. They refused multiple times saying they only believe in their own "standard of care" and that insurance would get things wrong. It left me powerless, as insurance couldn't give me any info unless they had the plan, and the office refused to submit said plan. Secondly, going thru the plan, they called out some of the items as optional. But there were other non ADA standard codes they were using that they didn't describe as optional. I later asked for more detail there about why i was being required to use those and they said it was their office's standard. I pressed more and they said it wasn't actually necessary and removed them for me. I had decided to push on through the procedure since I had a decent experience with the dentist to date, and I opted to trust them. After the EOB came back from my insurance, it was nearly $200 less than I had paid (and they required payment on the spot). I called into their office and the lady who was trying to explain it was extraordinarily condescending and ultimately said they were going to go back to insurance and have them change it. The largest difference being they were charging me multiple times for 2D photos (eg. not x-rays) for different areas of my mouth. One of which was the exact same photo they had taken in the exam before the fillings, but they ignored me and did another one. Looking around online, the standard is to charge it once, but they opted to take the approach that would net them the most $$$, and fight with insurance to get that charged to me. I wasn't planning on returning to them after that experience anyways (especially when I saw my partner's bill for a very similar amount of fillings at another dentist was nearly half), but ended up deciding to write a warning to others when I got a letter saying they did not want to provide me dental care anymore. It seems the moment someone questions their billing practices, they're ready to cut the strings rather than trying to work with that patient to figure out the best care while balancing their financial situations.

He does all the work himself, including cleaning, so you'll only see one seat filled at a time. He does have an assistant to snap photos and pass tools, but other than that, he's a one-man show. He does great work and is very personable. The only real complaint I have is he suggested removing my bottom permanent retainer so I went ahead and did so. (He said teeth are actually stronger without it...and yes, there would be a little shifting.) Since then my bottom teeth have shifted a bit, and our orthodontist still wonders why in the heck he removed it. But other than that, we've been happy! Beautiful office too!

We had a consultation (Orem) and had the actual surgery the next day in Saratoga Springs. We couldn't have asked for a better first time experience! Dr. Burton explained everything thoroughly in the consult. The next day (surgery day) he was on time, personable, and made us feel right at home. The surgery normally takes about 30 minutes but Dr. Burton, being efficient as he is, only took 20 minutes! He even called in the prescription meds before the surgery started, so by the time we arrived at the pharmacy, it was ready for pick up. For a surgery, it was a remarkable first time experience - HIGHLY recommend!

a while ago i got a series of fillings. the procedure was fine, but several of the teeth that were…read morefilled required root canals not soon after the fillings, which i think was unusual and disappointing. i got one of the root canals here, it was one of my front teeth and in a few weeks it turned gray. i was given no knowledge that this could happen and i'll need another treatment if i ever want to fix it. also, i asked for some drugs to calm my anxiety during the root canal because i wasn't experienced with them and was scared. the doctor ground something into a powder and dropped it on my tongue. never was i told what this drug is or what it does. it was ok, though i silently cried the whole time. then when it was over i was crying and forgetting and crying and forgetting some more. it was an ordeal for my boyfriend because he was confused why i kept forgetting what happened 15 minutes ago and i was confused because i didn't know what he was talking about. again we were never warned of these side effects. (my emotions are my own, but short term memory loss is something they definitely should've stated clearly. maybe they did and i forgot! haha. but no seriously they should've made us more aware of these serious side effects before i took the drug.) anyway at the end the assistant made me take some tylenol or something and she watched as i spilled the water all down my front because obviously i was too numb to be drinking anything. she even gave me a mirror like that would help but it just made it all the more embarrassing, and funny, though i was a bit annoyed at her incompetence. she had this look like a scared deer the whole time, and it's kind of part of her job to calm the patient so, just something to be aware of. yeah overall hated this place, bad vibes, bad communication. i'm sure they could be fine for other people especially if they're your regular but my experiences were not great. lightly traumatizing even, though i'm over it. i just don't want this happening to other people. step it up please! much love to you though!

When I went to an endo, he was shocked. The tooth Dr. Hunt wanted to pull needed a root canal and the other is perfectly fine. I had the root canal done and other than a crown, nothing else needs to be done. This was an awful experience and Dr. Hunt was incompetent.

In mid January, I went to Aspen Ridge to address the issue and was told by the two receptionists at the desk that the crown was not warrantied and that I should review the waivers that I signed before the work was done to verify that fact. Appalled, I quietly left, never to return. The crown was examined by another local, reputable dentist who provided me with a picture of the failing crown. A hole had developed on the side of the tooth where the crown met the natural tooth, something he had never seen before. Furthermore, due to the damage, I now required a root canal before the new crown could be placed, at a hefty expense to me. I have filed a claim against Aspen Ridge Dental with Select Health Dental to have the cost of the failed crown returned to me. To my suprise I was told by the agent that Aspen Ridge's refusal to see me as a patient while the crown was faiing was a serious violation of their contract with this dentist. My family and I were patients at Aspen Ridge for over 4 years. I am shocked and the level of neglect to which I was subjected. Folks, there are PLENTY of excellent dentists in the Draper area. I strongly recommend against this one.

The hygienist Mckell is friendly as well but it was definitely a scam to pay $180 for additional services on a cleaning as I went back to my regular dentist and they confirmed I would have not needed any of those "preventative gum disease" add ons since I don't have any signs of gum disease and great oral health. The oral surgeon and his assistant is an absolute NO, very rude, sarcastic comments during procedure, rough, ect... Girl doing Xrays was a mess, kept hitting my teeth & face, rude. Front desk lady was fine, just talked REALLY slow and didn't really answer my questions. I'm not sure how this place compares to others in Utah as I'm back in CA where people are normal but I suppose if you're in a pinch this place will be okay.

I have some trauma around oral surgery because I worked for an oral surgeon in California and there was a huge difference in how patients were treated once they were unconscious so I was adamant that I be allowed to stay awake for the procedure. And I was shocked that all the places I called refuse to extract wisdom teeth without sedation. Suspicious!! Well, this place agreed to take my teeth out same day with no sedation!! I had no issues after the extraction. No dry socket. No nerve pain. Nothing. Highly recommend!

And boy would you be wrong. What they didn't tell you is that the cost and billing for services WILL change for you, and that $90 service will now be 10x or more. Stay away from this place.
