We brought sandwiches, snacks and water which made for a little picnic. The garden is enormous and beautifully maintained. Wish we had gardens such as this in the USA. I think this may even be bigger than the Central Park in NYC - most certainly safer! We went on a Monday but it was still full of people. From what it seems, it's a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Locals wade into the water and there are even some spots where they surf! I believe there's even a lifeguard in one of the areas. They don't just let anyone surf though and there are some warning signs about its dangers. Hubby and I were able to find a bench in the shade where we just enjoyed the scenery for a while. It was perfect for our jet lag recovery The park is also within walking distance from many other landmarks in Munich, such as The Residence, the Odeonsplatz, Mariensplatz, The Munich Cathedral, among many others.

There's a beautiful river with plenty of waterfront space to relax and even a place to watch surfers practicing. There's a huge beer garden by the Chinese Tower, great for a break or people watching. There's lots of well maintained pathways for walking snd bikes. Munich residents are lucky to have this space!

Munich has no lack of beautiful outdoor spaces, but looking at all of my options, Maximiliananlagen or Maximilian Park was begging (perhaps daring be the better word choice?) for a long and relaxing sunset run with its long flats, paved and unpaved trails and rather substantial hills to conquer. Being Friday night, I was surrounded by more picnickers and nice-weather-revelers than other runners, but if I lived here in Munich, the variation of terrain and manageable loops would definitely make this one of my go-to spots. Oh, plus, like most things in Munich, it's absolutely gorgeous. #nachofact

I jogged here from my hotel and found it to be busy but clean with wide enough lanes for running, walking and biking all at the same time. It's a gorgeous park with several different footpaths and a footbridge leading into the old part of town and a nice, scenic view of water and gorgeous German architecture. As expected, several statues and monuments can be seen along the way. All adding to the beauty of Munich! Makes me love this city even more.

My spidey sense was tingling, so I don't know if this is a great place to wander after dark. In the daytime however, it seemed perfectly fine and I saw a couple of women walking alone as well as one pushing a pram. Wide central path leads to a pretty fountain, dedicated to Neptune, the God of water and sea. Several benches and rubbish bins, but there was still a little litter in the bushes.
