"I walk through the world and call out 'Peace, peace, peace.'"
This quote from the Italian poet Francesco Petrarch complements the sculpture "The Caller," located on Straße des 17. Juni. Sculptor and graphic artist Gerhard Marcks created the three-meter-high bronze in 1966.
Marcks is considered, alongside Wilhelm Lehmbruck and Ernst Barlach, one of the most important German sculptors of the 20th century.
In May 1989, a few months before the fall of the Berlin Wall, a private foundation acquired a cast of the work for installation on Straße des 17. Juni in West Berlin. read more
