Upon handing over my medical records, the receptionist said she was gonna need to keep them. I told her they were my only copies and asked that she make a copy of them or scan them into her system. She said, no, but I would have to give them to her or I couldn't see the doctor. She got pushy and agitated. Left the front desk with my medical records. Then she came back and said I would have to leave the office. I never got to see the doctor. There is definitely something odd going on in this office. I suspect they want to prevent their patience from getting second opinions. Perhaps they have some shady business practices. Or perhaps they are racist, as some others have suggested in these reviews. Whatever the reason is, I wouldn't trust him with my health.

I just moved to the area so didn't have a physician here. Because I could not get to a doctor's office for the first weeks after arrival, the nursing center provided me with a primary care physician who sees patients at the home to coordinate my care. They also provided me with an orthopedic specialist (see my review of Henry Bruce MD). Candidly, I did not know what to expect from physicians assigned to me by the nursing home. The primary care doctor that they assigned to me is Cameron Khavarian, MD. Although I am not a physician, I was head of public relations and patient relations for a 1,000 bed medical center, as well as a consultant to several others. Having worked with so many physicians and handled all manner of doctor-patient issues I may have a different perspective (more critical with higher expectations) than the typical patient. With that in mind, I have to say that by any measure, Dr. Khavarian (Dr. K) is at the top of the list of the best physicians I have known or who have treated me. He is extremely knowledgeable and very responsive. And, he's a very nice guy! If you think that old fashioned "bedside manner," has vanished, you simply haven't met Dr. K. Couple that with today's technology, and Dr. K was a quick email or a phone call away when I or the nurses needed a change or addition to medications, or a different treatment regime. When it was important that I personally meet with him, he was always there within a very reasonable amount of time. Throughout my stay, and for the follow-up aftercare, he was patient and understanding, and was both a superb medical practitioner and advocate for me at the home and with my insurance providers. In addition to the broken leg (a tibia plateau fracture) and related conditions, Dr. K diagnosed a number of annoying persistent ailments I have endured and prescribed treatments that simply made it vanish. If you or a loved one is confined to a nursing home, Dr. K is the doctor you'll want and will genuinely appreciate. Watching other doctors at the home, and from my personal experiences, Dr. K is the best physician practicing at nursing homes. Dr. K's website is http://nursing-home-do.... He makes rounds at about a dozen Orange County health care facilities. The only downside is that Dr K's practice is limited to seeing people that are in nursing homes. If he took regular patients, he would be my primary care doctor. I am going to miss having him as my doctor. Incidentally, my leg healed and I was walking in 7 weeks rather than the 12 weeks that all the orthopedic surgeons at the hospital and the home said it would take before I would even be able to put weight on it. Not bad for a guy on Medicare!

I didn't want to be mean or spiteful but, I also wanted to give a realistic perspective of what it's like to be her patient. First off, everyone that works there is nice but, they do not communicate with you. If you order supplements and want them shipped, and the supplement is on back order, they don't communicate with you and tell you that. They just leave you waiting. If you have an appointment with one person, they will sub in someone else and not tell you. The lack of communication in this office leaves a lot to be desired. Also, if you expect to get results right away, you won't. She is not interested in helping you get better. She doesn't take insurance. She wants you to play the long game and keep paying her. That is the gist of it. Below is a more in depth explanation. I saw Dr. Gersh for a little over a year. Prior to seeing her, I was told that I had to go off HRT due to blood clots and other health problems. I suffered for 5 years with horrible hot flashes. I came in as a hopeful patient and never got results. Not because I didn't do what she told me to do, but because she gives you a little of what you ask for and holds back on the rest. For my first visit I was told I had to wait to see the PA. Then, the day before my visit, they cancelled my appointment because the PA was out. They booked for another week out. When I finally came to my appointment, I was 45 minutes into my appointment before the girl disclosed that she was not the PA but the nurse practitioner. I was sent for a lot of blood work and had to wait for 2 months before my follow-up with Dr. Gersh. When I finally got to see her, I expected to have her explain my results to me. She did not. She was 30 minutes late getting into the room and then was in a hurry to get me out. I'm not even sure she realized that I was a new patient. She just kept looking at the screen and then she prescribed me a low dose of estrogen and then told me to see Bob for a fitness test. I already explained that I worked out, daily. Still, I had to see Bob. She doesn't tell you that Bob is her husband. You have to find out that information by doing your own research. I spent a little over a year trying to get her to put me on progesterone. She wouldn't put me on a full dose. I either had to take a compounded form or insert it vaginally. Nothing worked. I wasn't sleeping, I was having IBS symptoms which just made me feel worse and when I finally got tested for it at another place, I shared my results. Rather than accept that I had had found out what was plaguing me, she told me to see Bob so he could show me how to so some special diet. Being a patient always means, buy one more thing, take one more thing, just one more appointment. She milked me for over a year and I never got better. It was always, see Bob, see my nurse, and she would give you just enough to keep you coming back but not enough to fix the problem. I eventually went to see a natural path who did a very intense 3 day cortisol spit test before putting me back on HRT. I say this because you can't be on any type of hormones or medication if you want to get a true cortisol reading. It turns out that I had cortisol levels off the charts all night long and then they would plummet at 10am and stay low all day. I FINALLY got on the proper dose of HRT and oral progesterone along with a supplement to bring my cortisol levels down. After only 2 months, I had no hot flashes and I was sleeping through the night. It has taken some time to bring my cortisol levels down but I am finally feeling better. If you have a lot money and don't mind being a regular at her office, by all means become a patient. If not, find a natural path and a good GI doctor to help you instead.

My aunt would then see her for issues like fatigue, fainting, nausea, stomach pain etc. Because of this lack of thorough investigation, blood work, and tests, cancer diagnosis was severely delayed by months. This missed diagnosis has caused significant physical harm, emotional distress, and has negatively impacted my prognosis and treatment. How many doctors do that?? I had my annual physical examination today and when I got home I told my husband, "What a blessing it is that we found Dr. Ahuja. I love her!" She spent as much time as needed to go over all of my medical issues, discussed test results, nutrition, medications, etc. She is always attentive and really listens. Her office staff is always friendly, caring and efficient. They are prompt in answering my calls and emails and when I am in the office, I never feel rushed. During Covid, they have been exceptionally careful and I have always felt safe even though I am at risk for having serious problems. If you need a primary care physician, look no further.
