I wanted to get something Danish and something a bit more special before leaving this part of Denmark. My friend suggested this place, so we went here after a day of off-path sight-seeing. They first asked us if we wanted to eat in the actual restaurant or the new... pub section? Bar section? As I understood, the kitchen is the same for both areas and the menu more-less the same, but it is a more relaxed atmosphere, but more modern. I kind of wish I sat in the older section just for the authenticity, but the menu looked better in the other section, so hey-ho. Maybe you can get either in either restaurant, I dunno! The service was really friendly and the food was delicious! It felt to me like elevated rustic dishes. I had some sort of chicken pot pie like thing (with a less offensive name), which was really tasty. My friend got a fish plate, with three fishes prepared different ways. Everything was wonderful. read more

While I waited for my double espresso, I was amazed by how much care he put into the preparation of someone else's filter coffee. There's an interesting video about him on Vimeo, it's well worth watching! Highly and completely recommended as a destination cafe in Denmark!

If you are in a rush, you can also try the drive in to pick up your morning bread. Be warned there can be a long queue at the weekends, but with a number system and lots of staff time passes fast.

Its location is pretty central in the outskirts of central Aarhus, and takes about 10 minutes if you walk from the trainstation. The selection of different cakes and pastries is very big, but also pricey. If something is pricey, your expectations gets raised as well, and the one cake we ordered was absolutely amazing. So why not 5 stars if I thought the cake was amazing? Well, I asked a bit about the cakes and the server we talked to couldn't really recommend anything specific or tell anything about the cakes. I will most definitely be coming back for more cake tho!

But once you are inside, you find the place pretty spacious. We had a roll with cheese and butter (my favorite danish breakfast), a sandwich (may not be so worth to get it here, in our opinion), and we must say that we liked their chocolate croissants the best! Absolutely the best we've tried in town so far. We were also very content with their drip coffee. Emmerys is known for a rather high-end bakery for their prices, but I definitely saw why people like the place after having tried their bread, pastry, and coffee. The place will be now our favorite breakfast spot!
