He has a nice selection of cheeses, and also makes his own. Some of the cheeses are made in Holland (where the climate is better for cheese making) with own recipe. He lets me try some of them, including one called Queso Maduro, which is made with goat cheese with french honey. He is planning to make another cheese with Norwegian honey, as well as many recipes which, he said with a wink, he cannot reveal yet. Very nice guy who is excited to share the love of cheese, and let me sample. As a traveler I couldn't buy much from him, but definitely, if you are visiting Mathallen Vulkan, look him up!

Gutta på Haugen might be the most famous food shop in Oslo. All their beautifully presented foods are of very high quality yet I had hoped for more Norwegian ingredients. Please call ahead as otherwise your chances are small due to the size of the place. They have a cheese and deli which I assume is open during the day and a small menu for the evening meals. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress and were seated upon arrival. The menu was on a blackboard and consisted of what looked like classic french dishes. We shared a small charcuterie board and I had moules frite. Mussels in a Roquefort sauce. The mussels were excellent and the fries were also plentiful and really nice. The cold cuts were also of good quality. They have a small wine list and I chose a red which was from France and really nice. The lemon pannacotta for dessert with a Parmesan crumble was delicious and I loved it. Although the menu is small it was a lovely meal that was reasonably priced. The ambience here is excellent and we had a lovely evening here. Happily come back here again.

It's not the cheapest joint but it's a really tiny, cozy spot that makes you feel like your in a little bistro in France. White and red checkered table clothes with little candles add to the charm and good food. We also got the duck rillette for an appetizer and it was super tasty, and the mussels. Being from WA State we have some pretty amazing mussels. The ones here were good, but they were super tiny, I am not sure it was worth the price. We live like a block from here so we definitely will be back, I'd really love to try out their dessert.

The chicken is breed the old fashion way- Breath of fresh air, fresh oat, wheat and corn and this combination makes the meat so juicy and tender. The burger itself is boneless (they remove bones), coleslaw, bbq sauce and a good dressing on top of a amazingly good bun. The bun actually makes the whole difference. It's so moist and tasty when you let the burger sit for a minute(if you got the patience to wait), it just suck up all of the good dressing and bbq sauce and that combined with the juicy chicken just makes it even better. I tend to go for the burger whenever I'm down at the local football pub watching a game and I combine this meal with a Brooklyn Lager. Good taste combined. The service is also great. No mocking around. Quick and done. Since they started up their local shoppe at Mathallen, the price has risen from a comfortable 60NOK to 90NOK. I personally think that's a little steep but I can't resist it. It's worth it. They also got a good chicken sandwich, but I've never eaten it. (Never change a winning team) but I've heard it's also very good. It's not only burgers and sandwiches at Stangeriet, they also sell wings, thighs and whole chickens.
