This was my second time visiting this farm, and once again, it did not disappoint! The farm is beautiful and offers so many activities for all ages. There's a small area with animals you can feed, and they offer a hayride throughout the entire farm--which is fantastic because you get to see everything. I enjoyed visiting the pumpkin field, where they have so many options and sizes to choose from. Afterward, I stopped by the market and picked up chicken wings, macaroni and cheese, and--most importantly--cider donuts. The market is also great for fresh produce, as well as a variety of sauces and jams. The staff is super nice and helps guide guests when the lines get long. There's a seating area outside where you can relax and eat your food. I will definitely be coming back here! read more

We have been to Demarest Farm twice so far in late September. A new find to explore with different friends/loved ones. First trip, when you go to Demarest Farm, you have options to either go apple picking to the left or the market to the right side. We came with friends and our kids and decided on apple picking and farm afterwards. Apple picking happened after you hopped off the hayride. Given one bag per family. The apples selection was vast with different kinds. Some trees had more than others, plenty to choose from if you favored certain kinds over others. All the apples had no wax on it (for example, what you see in the supermarket) and it is as natural and raw as you spot it. Once you complete the apple picking, you conclude where you started from the hayride. There is a playground and allows children of different ages to play together. By the time we got there, it was close to 12:45pm, the heat was building up and we were about to leave. The playground gave plenty of colored options amd our littles had a good time in the train. The market was good. Crowded but you knew it was lunch time and everyone was shopping around. The hot buffet had delicious macaroni anf cheese, apple cider donuts (plain, powdered, coated with sugar) , apple cider drink and more. By our second trip the following weekend, we came with another set of friends. We explored the petting zoo with our lil one, went to the market earlier and even though the hot buffet was not opened yet, still lots of food was available. My favorite was the turkey deli on a roll, with mustard and brie - it was so good. My husband loved eating the plain apple cider donuts, the plain was his favorite and rarely have I seen him eat anything plain. Suggestions for families - bring a stroller, keep in mind wheels might get muddy or dirty. Backpack for your lils waterbottles - sometimes apple picking was hot walking around. Petting zoo - children under 2 years old was free admission. If you wanted to feed animals, you need to purchase the crackers by the entrance. Staff was friendly and busy. Overall good day. Small farm with a nice little farm store, some animals, and pick-your-own fruit. Pretty well organized. This is our go-to farm for peach picking and apple picking, mainly because it's convenient (it's in Bergen County), and it offers peach picking and apple picking. For apple picking, they offer a whole lot of different varieties of apples including the rare and beloved honeycrisp apples. Apple picking is popular and the good apples get picked out pretty quickly, so I would recommend going early in the season. You park in a big field in the middle of their apple orchard, pay for a bag and go out to the trees to pick what you want. For peach picking, you park next to the farm store and have to trek up to the peach trees. It's quite a trek (10-15 minutes) and mostly uphill, not shaded. Do not recommend if you have limited mobility, or if it is warmer than 80 degrees. Remember you also have to trek back to the farm store with bags of peaches. I do not recommend this farm for pumpkin picking. The bigger farms out west have bigger pumpkins out in the pick-your-own fields, and more activities and things to do. They walled off their animals and are charging for their petting zoo now. They did not do that before. read more

Demarest Farm is always a pleasant visit this time of year. The farm is nicely decorated with Fall themes, items, food, and especially....their apple cider donuts. As always, you are able to pick your own apples and pumpkins. If you want a less crowded experience, go during the week, because the weekends are justifiably crowded. First and foremost, it's good to point out that you need to make a reservation prior to arriving so that you can reserve how many bags you want. Once checked in, you are guided to parking where the whole process is super organized and seamless. From there, you have so many apples to choose from. My son and I have been here quite a bit over the years. I think they have just got too big. I took my son to see the Halloween lights. The website said it was a 20-25 min drive through their 32 acre farm. It took us 15 mins to drive through and you back track over the road you came in on. We were disappointed and this cost $40! Came here yesterday for apple picking. Made reservations on their website which was easy to do. $8 per admission was the cheapest I had found for any farm in northern jersey and then $18 for a small bag for apples. We arrived at our scheduled time and it was definitely crowded (but it was a nice day). They have a lot of staff keeping everything organized and moving and got the cars parked relatively easily. The apple orchard had apples left on the trees. I wouldn't say it was plentiful but there were apples. It's $5 to rent a large apple picker stick and then if you return it you get $2 back. Hayride is short and goes just around the apple orchard. Lots of different choices of apples. There's a small stand that sells cider and more bags and petting zoo food but if you want the market you have to drive over to the market down the street. We did and that was a cute market with a large selection but very crowded and hard to walk through. Staff did a good job with the crowds as well. I have family in town and thought it would be nice to take a trip to Demarest Farms, but I was wrong. First of all, you have to purchase separate tickets for the petting zoo, apple orchard, and pumpkin picking--and all purchases must be made online. Petting Zoo - $5 per person It was so small, and the animals looked dirty and sad. Apple Orchard - $8 per person It was my very first apple-picking experience, and I couldn't have been more disappointed. There were zero apples on the trees, most of them looked dead, there were rotten apples all over the ground, and the smell was awful. Why charge people an entry fee when there are no apples to pick? How low can you be? Now I understand why they make you buy tickets online in advance--this is just plain immoral and greedy. Two words - blueberry pie!! And then three words - apple cider donuts!!! My only complaint is the hassle to find parking. The delicious treats more than make up for that annoying inconvenience. This is the only place I have and will eat blueberry pie. As someone who is not a fan of blueberries (as a fruit), this pie exceeded any expectation I may have had. It's the crust for me! The buttery, flaky scrumptious crust does it for me. It perfectly contrasts the blueberry compote and burst of flavors on your tongue. Also, the apple cider donuts are phenomenal. Completely shocked and confused why this pumpkin patch has an entry fee per child AND adult... IN ADDITION you have to pay $13 for each pumpkin... Makes absolutely no sense. If you want to come with your three kids it's $90 JUST for the pumpkins. Every other attraction is an additional charge. Why are they charging both an entry fee of $8 each to the pumpkin patch and charging you per pumpkin? Actually insane to spend nearly $100 to pick out three pumpkins for toddlers. Do you want to go to the Orchard? The petting zoo? An additional charge for each child... Be prepared to spend hundreds of dollars. Why I haven't been here sooner is beyond me! Creature of habit driving to upstate NY to go apple picking, but today we just wanted a short ride and try somewhere new. This was perfect for our expectations today. 25 min drive arrived at 9:00am on a Saturday. We arrived just in time as influx of families came closer to 10am. Great for those who can't walk far distances or uneven grounds. We opted to go right near the store area which had plenty of pre-picked pumpkins of all varieties, gigantic mum planters, small petting zoo with chicken coup and some fun area to take pics for children or the kid in your adult heart. Store had so many items to choose from with fresh veggies, candy, baked goods, decorations, sauces/jams, and cider. Even has a salad bar with hot & cold goods for quick bite. Staff was so pleasant and everything was organized and clean. Very little selection of baskets of apples which was a little surprising compared to other farms, but it was perfect for us. Pick your own pumpkins is across the street where I assume apples may have been, but you are supposed to reserve tickets online and yesterday their site stated no tix available for Oct for apples. I'll stick to NY for that experience! Fave part for us was it was less crowded, odd varieties of pumpkins which I just had to get very well priced, great apple crumb homemade pie, excellent fresh cider donuts and tasty cider! I will note I just don't spend $30-$40 for traditional pumpkins anymore as my local grocery store sells huge ones for $6 or 2 for $10! We opted to save those funds and buy all other stuff and stop at our store and grab our 2 pumpkins. We had a lovely visit at Demarest farms. Truth - we went for the candy apples. This is time of year for it! They have a wonderful set up outside of pumpkins and the kid activities. The store is organized well in that the line is long but it winds through the store so best to get on and just wait and walk and shop as you wait. It is pricey. But the products are quality. I've been here for apple picking before but this is the first time I've been here for peach picking. I came here with a few friends and their baby on a Sunday at 1. You have to pre-purchase tickets for a certain time slot online ahead of time. Admission is $5 per person, and it's $18 for a bag to put your peaches in, which holds about 10-12 lbs (according to their website). Parking and the store are on one side, and then you have to cross a large street to get over to the orchards. We went on the second weekend of peaches and a lot of them weren't really ready to be picked yet. But we did manage to get some good peaches. They even have donut peaches! But not a lot so you really have to keep an eye out. We shared a bag and must have gotten maybe 50 peaches or so (they're small). I'd definitely recommend sharing a bag because the peaches don't last that long. There were a few that went moldy the next day. Overall, it's an okay farm. There are better ones out there but if you don't want to drive too far, this option isn't bad. read more

I saw this place pop up for me for peach picking, so I am excited since I have nothing been and want to know what it is like!! So this review only about peach picking during weekdays!! As I read on other reviews mentioned that they are crazy busy over the weekends, so I don't know anything about weekends.. 1. You should purchase your ticket online - they recommended it.. not sure if they would let you in if you didn't.. 2. Parking - we park by the store area, and they also have additional parking on the side on the grass.. not sure how big the lot is, so I can see that this place can get very packed on the weekend when everyone wants to go!! 3. Check ins - We got checked in inside the general store. They check our name on their list, gave us the wristband, and the plastic bag for picking. 4. Actual picking location - across the street!! It could be a problem for some (especially for those being stroller) you can walk up couple stairs by the store toward the interception!! But if you have stroller and little one inside I see that I would be very difficult!! Then you have to walk toward the actual farm area.. as we know that road is not smooth so it could be hard for some regular stroller!! But luckily, the peach tree are toward the front!! So you don't really have to walk far to get to pick!! When I went, there are still a lot of peach on the tree... they don't look ripe enough yet, some a red on one side, and green on the others, but some are pretty red (but still firm).. The only recommendation I might give is if they can let us know their verity of the peach? Honestly I was trying to look for different kind of peach, but I am not sure if they have?? Or if I didn't venture deep enough.. or I should have asked before I go.. not sure... 5. Store - they have a lot of different kind of goodies at the store : donut, veggies, other fruits, pie, pastry, dressing, honey, etc... only thing is they don't have apple cider yet (well, apple are not ready, I don't assume they have it) 6. Petting zoo - they are next to the store. It is not huge, but the literally come all over you as soon as you approach.. I think they might be very hungry!! Haha Overall, this is a fun experience... given this might be the only PYO farm in Bergen county.. will try to go back for apple picking or try their apple cider!! We've been going to Orchard of Lights for years and it is a lovely experience for kids. The cost is reasonable considering what goes into decorating the orchard and there is plenty of staff to manage the cars properly. One of the most authentic Santa's around is here and the kids loved him. Go into the market and pick up some apple cider donuts and hit chocolate cuz they are delicious. If I have one complaint it is the music station they have you tune in on. It's elevator music and doesn't enhance the experience for kids. My suggestion is to play your own fun music in the car for the kids and enjoy! read more

Being the first Saturday after Labor Day, my partner and I went to get a head start on the best-of-the-best apple cider donuts from one of Bergen County's farms, made fresh daily, just oozing with apple cidery goodness and never hot. Located on Werimus Road in Hillsdale, the Demarest Farm is our go-to place at their farm market for these donuts. The general consensus is that apple cider doughnuts joined the mainstream in the 1950s. Upon arrival, parking was available close to their store, and it wasn't busy or crowded. They sell all harvest fruits and vegetables from the farm, as well as delicious prepared foods hot and cold, sandwiches, salads, baked goods, and more! We decided on a box of cinnamon apple cider donuts, apple cider, plums, and a small potato salad. For lunch, we picked up a tuna fish wrap and a chicken salad sandwich with drinks. The food wasn't cheap, but it was good. We sat to enjoy our meal at one of the tables with other patrons under a mesh covering near the parking lot. The outside play area for the kids is always fun to visit. They can also enjoy the free petting zoo by feeding the goats, sheep, pigs, or alpaca healthy crackers one can buy at the store. The staff here is all very friendly and willing to help. We continue to recommend this place, but come early. read more

Probably not the biggest apple picking or pumpkin patch/farm, but if you're looking for a short drive and convenience in Bergen County, then you'll find it in Demarest Farm. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to go into the Farm store, but we did go apple picking and visited the pumpkin patch and we loved our experience here. Basically, if you're a first timer, then you should know that the apple farm is in a separate area from the Farm store. When driving here, there are 2 directions that you can go - either the farm or the store. The apple farm is a pretty decent size and consists of many varieties of apples as you would expect. The deeper you go into the farm, the more apples you will see, especially high up in those trees. The closer you are to the entrance, the less apples there will be to pick. Pretty much expected since the trees closer to the entrance have been picked bare, especially deeper into the picking season. And, if you're looking for Fuji and Honey Crisp apples, you will definitely find them here, but don't be surprised to also see that those trees are the most raided. Just be prepared to do some major stretching of your arms to reach for them. As for the pumpkin patch, it's not too far off from the apple picking area. It's not huge by any stretch, but there are plenty of pumpkins to take pictures with and take home. And you don't need a pumpkin picking ticket to get into the pumpkin patch. Definitely a nice little farm to take the family, but I'm sure there are much bigger ones out there. However, if you're not into driving 1+ hours into another county, Demarest is quite close to a lot of the bigger towns in Bergen County. read more

We're former New Jerseyans, and we tend to visit this kitschy place for apple cider and apple cider donuts when we visit family in the fall. Demarest Farms has been around for a while, yet I don't think they can figure out what they want to be. On one hand, there's a pumpkin patch and some (pricey) apple picking. On the other hand, there's a petting zoo and the Halloween light show/Orchard of Lights events. And then, there's the little store that sells tons of apple sauce, pies, some produce -- and the apple cider donuts that I enjoy. Except, the last couple of visits (this year -- 2023 and in 2019), the donuts weren't much better than the ones I could buy from a grocery store bakery. Not bad by any means ... just nothing special as I remember from way back, when we came here more regularly as residents. Will we return? Sure. Maybe in a year or two. Will Demarest Farms add a Ferris wheel and kiddie rollercoaster by then? It wouldn't shock me. And unfortunately, the quality of the donuts will likely suffer as a result. read more

I came to the demarest farm with a group of 5. When we arrived, we were directed into the apple picking farm parking. It was quite busy on a saturday afternoon. But it was organized, which was great. They checked our ticket in the car before parking. 3 of us came together and my friend paid for us in advance with the bag to carry the apples yet when we got our tickets checked the worker only gave us one. Luckily, we were able to pick up the other 2 later without any issues. Once you park, you're free to rome the apple tree areas. Every type of apple tree section is labeled, so you know which is which. You can get an apple picker stick at the front. It's best to get that before you start walking around. Afterward, you leave the area when you're done and can drive to the market on the farm. You can buy all types of things, but the real winners are the apple cider donuts and the apple cider juice. It is a bit pricey, but it is honestly delicious. It's a nice activity to do with family or friends, for sure. read more

I think I preferred the original without cinnamon and sugar but both were good. The ones we got were still warm from the fryer! The apple butter tasted fresh. The store has a lot of things to look at and purchase. It's fun to go in the back and feed the animals as well. There's a little play area for the kids if you want to spend a little time there. There is no admission if you just wanted to visit the market and the petting zoo area. You can pet and feed the animals! The apple cider was super refreshing and there are a few size options which was nice. The apple cider donuts only came in one sized packaging unfortunately, but there are a few flavors such as powdered, plain and cinnamon sugar. I got the sugar coated donuts and they were fresh and yummy! Came back today from a field trip at Demers Farms with our school. We will not be coming back again. It was so overcrowded and unsafe. We were truly disappointed. There were so many school groups and we had to wait an hour online just to get on the hayride with no bathrooms in sight and children from kindergarten to third grade. Truly disappointed by this establishment it seemed like they should have a cap per day, but clearly that was not the case way too many people and unsafe conditions. read more

I'm in New Jersey, it's 80 degrees, it's October, what else is there to do? Obviously gotta hit up an apple and pumpkin farm in my flannel, wait in an incredibly long line and sweat up a storm in my flannel. Demarest is definitely a great pick and is the lesser of some evils as far as waiting and parking in the area. My boyfriend came around 3pm on a Saturday and found parking very easily. We waited in line to get into the market for about 5 minutes and waited to pay for about 10 minutes. It's really not that bad considering some of the other farms in the area. The staff was friendly, helpful and definitely overworked. They were pumping customers outta there pretty quickly. The line was literally wrapped around the store. That did make it a little easier to go over all the goodies one more time. The pies - forget about it. So delicious, so many flavors, so good. The baked goods, fresh sandwiches, soups, sauces, popcorn, cookies, the list goes on and on. I decided on a crumble apple pie - so good, chocolate chip cookies that were perfectly moist and soft, crisp apple cider, powdered apple cider donuts, a candied apple and some honey. The donuts were fresh, they did lack a little apple flavor but it's still a perfectly fresh and tasty donut. The candied apple was perfect, the cookies were probably my favorite. They also have a beautiful set up for kids to play and take pictures, a ton of pumpkins for sale and just overall a nice setup for any age to enjoy.
