I have had two beginner yoga sessions here so far and both have been amazing. Katherine & Jori are…read moreskilled yogis that make you feel welcomed regardless of your background. They have sweet souls that make you feel very comfortable in the class. I'm looking forward to the rest of my yoga journey with this location. You definitely have to sign up! The membership is a great deal. Just stop buying all of that junk/fast food and it's paid for! It feels good to support local businesses.

I have found my home studio! Right in Woodstock Square and down the street from the train station…read more Perfect location, but it is easy to miss since it's located on the second floor (scan the second floor windows and you'll figure out exactly where it is). Today I decided to pop in for a live class and did a little perusing online. Classes are typically $18, but first timers can get a $5 class if you select that option. The class I attended was an all-level Vinyasa taught by Jon and would've been worth the $18 so it's without a doubt worth $5. The space has a clean clutter feel to it. There's little decorations and salt lamps and it smells like incense. The skylight and the huge window let in so much light that it feels like you're practicing outside. The open window adds to that feel when you feel a light and welcome breeze. Size is the only setback... it's a somewhat narrow studio which makes a class feel pretty tight with about 10-12 people. This is possibly more personal preference because I love being in larger classes because I'm able to lose myself (or focus... I'm not sure which) a little more fully and this space is more ideal for small classes so you have room to spread out. Overall though, I will be back and I'll adjust to the smaller size... I may even come to love it. There are many different instructors and classes though out the week so experiencing different flows and styles is possible here. And the proximity to so many food options makes it the perfect spot to start my day before breakfast.

I have been a member at Akasha Yoga for about three months now. I have attended maybe 50 classes…read morethere. I have been to two other Yoga schools and have nothing bad to say about any of them. However, Akasha is the best. The classes are a great stress relief and awesome exercise. The instructors are all very willing to help people new to Yoga, like myself. If this is the last Yoga place that I attend, I will be happy. Aside from relocating, I see no need to go anywhere else. My only complaint is that the store next door (Reclaimed...a artsy used furniture store) blasts their music and hammers on things, so it is difficult to totally relax during meditation when the furniture store is open (fortunately only) on weekends. Akasha also does other fun events to raise money for community projects and causes... drum circles, movie nights, Zumba and Tai Chi. It is a righteous place.

But a friend of mine who belongs to Akasha bugged me to give it a try and offered to take me and my partner as guests on her membership. After the first class, we were hooked. My partner and I went back the very next day and signed up for monthly memberships and began going to classes several times a week. That was last Fall. There are several reasons I love Akasha Yoga. Aside from the warm and peaceful atmosphere, the instructors are all wonderful. Jennifer (the owner) is a fantastic instructor, has great energy, and a great sense of humor. In the months I was a member, I had the opportunity to take classes with all of the instructors at some point, and they are all fantastic in different ways, but they all strive to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome whether you are a complete beginner (like I was) or an experienced yogi. Akasha does a community class once a month on Saturdays that is free to all. Additionally, they raise money for various community causes each month and have different events and special classes planned throughout each month that add to the sense of community at Akasha. My partner and I recently had to move out of the area, and while Crystal Lake is a great suburb that we will miss, what makes us most sad about the move is that we can no longer take classes at Akasha. I would highly recommend this place for anyone interested in giving yoga a try, or for any yoga pros looking for a great place to practice.

I dont really do yoga coz it kinda messes up my knees which ia weird right i know! Anyway, being wifh the animals is such a stress relief and so good for my mental health. I did the Puppy Yoga alone and some friends joined me for Goat Yoga. Everyone was great and they even offer to take pictures for you! Ita 30 mins of yoga and 30 mins of playtime. I think if you havent tried this, you should at least once! I definitely wanna try the outdoor one and the Hiking with the goats next! Happy Exercising!

I didn't think it was fair that one couple seemed to have treats on their towels, so many of the puppies kept going over there. However, the staff and volunteers from Second City Canine Rescue did their best to distribute the puppies so everyone could get equal play. The class time was 30 minutes of yoga and 30 minutes of puppy play. The only suggestion I would have is that perhaps they discourage people from bringing their own treats so more people get to play with the puppies. Maybe it's just me, but I just thought that was a selfish move anyway, to try and get the puppies to stay by one area. If you are looking to relax and enjoy yoga and puppy time, this is definitely a unique experience.
