I applied to DESU in summer, 2025 admission. It was incredibly difficult to get a hold of the admissions office, and when I did they told me I would have to wait an additional 1-2 weeks (on top of the week they initially mentioned) for a decision. They essentially said it was because there were only 2 admissions counselors for transfer students. It just was hard to get a clear answer. Whenever I reached out to the counselors regarding questions, they never replied. DESU was also the college to which I applied that wouldn't do a transcript evaluation before admitting me (I applied to 3 schools total). Upon acceptance, I was finally able to have a conversation with a counselor, after another week from reaching out. She kept saying how all my credits were "a waste of time" for their degree plan and I have a lot of credits that would be electives but I've already filled the # of credits for electives, so there's nowhere for these classes to go. That's not their fault, but I think the way she worded it (her bedside manner) was not the most professional. They told me I need ~80 credits, even though I would be a senior at the college I attended last time I was in college. The counselor didn't know that I'd been accepted to the school yet, even though admissions told me that was a requirement for advisement. Overall, the slow response (or lack thereof), lack of apparent communication between admissions and the schools themselves, and the professionalism with admin. staff are reasons I did not choose this school, and why I wouldn't recommend it to others. read more

The girl in the admissions office was very rude and unprofessional. I needed assistance contacting the right party to solve an issue and everytime that I called; I was met with disrespect. I was genuinely concerned and worried about my issue and just needed guidance, but she continuously answered with passive aggression and cut me off while speaking. The last time that I called up there she was audibly annoyed that I had yet another question and said to me "it hasn't even been a week yet and youreeee callingggg again? Did you ... have a question??" Mind you, I was calling about something unrelated and she had just assumed. That was VERY disrespectful. I had been trying to contact different departments since December of 2024 and was ghosted until recently in February of 2025. I felt left in the dark and at this point I have to advocate for myself to find a solution. Luckily, management was able to resolve my main concern and I'm so grateful. But, that employee whose name I unfortunately did not catch; was very nasty spirited. If someone sees my review can you please address the current staff in admissions, because it was very disheartening and stressful to deal with. Thank you. read more

I absolutely loved the organizations offered on campus, and the student body is amazing! The problem is the faculty and housing. There is a lack of housing and accountability at DESU. There were a significant amount of students left without housing last year, and yet the school continues to accept more students than they can accommodate. It's also a nightmare trying to contact housing, financial aid, or anyone located in the admissions building. Especially during the summer. Last summer I was in contact with someone from financial aid and they lied about seeing my paperwork in the system. Causing added stress on move in day. The university does have a few good professors, but you may end up having a number of online classes even though you live on campus. They don't seem to have enough professors. A lot of majors seem to have a professor storage. It's also extremely hard to contact them if it's not an in-person class. The food is also terrible, and they barely have any parties. read more

Toured DSU with my daughter, the campus was nice an well kept. Liked the fact that all the financial Dept's were housed in one bldg..and your not running all over the campus. The dorm was OK..but no AC. Went to the student center to go to the bookstore an was asked to put my purse in this open cubby which is for students to place there book bags. Needless to say I did not put my 800.00 purse in no cubby that's in the front of the store opposite of the cashier with no security guard. I actually felt a little offended because you shld be able to bring your purse in the store. So they lost that sale. The school is situated in a decent area with plenty stores an shopping an buses that come to campus to pick up an drop off. read more

My daughter goes here and although they have a little bit of crime for the most part I will say that the school is a no nonsense school my daughter had some problems with bullies and the Public Safety officers were able to address the situation and handle it effectively I'm very happy about this and feel safer knowing that they will go out of their way to make sure my child is in a safe environment Also everyone we have met here has been more than willing to help us and very friendly my daughter gets extra money from the school when her grades are good she graduates this year and I can say that I feel that she had gotten a wonderful education she has made the Dean's list so many times and I would recommend the school read more

Don't be fooled by the bad press I earned my Bachelors of Science from Delaware State University and I can say that it is a much better school than what the media has portrayed it to be. The School of Management is AACSB accredited and I am a proud graduate of it. Their MBA program (http://www.desu.edu/business-administration-mba-program) is fairly new but a buddy of mine earned his MBA concentrating in IT from it and is doing great. DSU gave me a chance at something that due to my less than favorable high school grades, many other places wouldn't have. I'll always be grateful for that. The small class sizes make it easier for professors to work more intimately with students. I watched the campus evolve as far as facilities during my time their and its still growing. Every time I visit there I always comment on how old I feel seeing how their is always something new on campus (even though it really hasn't been that long since I graduated). The just built a new student center, added on to the gym, and remodeled part of the library. I grew up a lot while attending DSU and I can truly say my days there where some of the best in my life thus far (as cliched as it sounds). I'm also excited about what the new University president has in stored (definitely after the horrible one that just left). Delaware State University is another school that I would recommend for anyone looking for an institution of higher learning to attend. read more

Attended DSU from 98-99, before transferring to UD in 2000. In all honesty, I loved this school, and it had a special place in my heart when I was a student there. I saw myself amongst a sea of other black and brown students, and I had this immense pride in myself and more so for those like me who had come from low-income families. I thought that this was one of the greatest things that I had ever seen in my life, all of these beautiful black and brown people getting an education, and getting prepped to join society as leaders, builders, teachers, doctors, lawyers and so forth. But this dream of mine came to a quick end when I saw the nonsense and stupidity that was running rampant on campus. Young men, and women bringing a lot of street crap onto campus (i.e. drugs, and violence), it broke my heart and made me ashamed of what I was seeing happening to a society/community of college students. I didn't see everything, but I saw enough nonsense, that made me upset at my own people. Here we were with a great opportunity to prove to ourselves, and to many others that we were intellectuals, visionaries and innovators. Instead, there were those of that showed that we can easily fall prey to the negative stereotype of what other people think black people truly are. And that's why I left.
