I have been playing Del Toro guitars and appreciating Brian's luthier services for most of a decade. I have owned a Torelli, three Corridas (one a baritone) and an Esparza. I love these guitars and when I sell one I always end up regretting it (I am admittedly one of those "hey look over there at that shiny object, gotta have it" kind of guy). Each is or has been excellent in every measurable way from quality of construction, fit and finish, electronics, hardware pairing, materials choice, to tone, intonation and playability. Brian's guitars reflect his style and character. I recently bought an amazing blue Corrida with Brian's own slightly overwound P90s. It is as typical, as perfect as it can be and amazingly responsive. When I picked it up he was in the process of relocating to South Carolina. Denver has lost it's best luthier and a great guitar building artist. I eagerly await learning about Brian re-establishing his base of operations in South Carolina. I will never sell my Blue Corrida and I miss Brian already. read more

Brian was excellent. Quick to respond, quick to work on my guitar and did flawless work. I brought him my ($7000+) Tom Murphy Aged Les Paul R8. I needed some electrical re-wiring work redone as well as some work done on the nut. Brian was able to get me in and out with everything completed in under 2 days. Brian is great to deal with. Knowledgeable, friendly, available. He also makes his own guitars. They are gorgeous. He clearly knows how to handle your most prized instrument. If a person gives you your invoice folded in half --inside out, so you don't see the writing -- they're hiding something. And what they are hiding is how embarrassed they are about what they're charging you, or charging you for. I should have known that anyone recommended by Mark at Sound Town would be mediocre. This guitar repair guy operates out of his basement. It's not a brick-and-mortar shop. I took two guitars to him for different repairs/adjustments. One was a guitar for which I wanted t pickup installed. He made me buy the pick up on my own, and bring it back at a later date for the installation. The other was a guitar that needed some adjustments. I brought back the pickup and gave it him, leaving both guitars with him. Almost two weeks later, he called to say they were ready to pick up. I stopped by, but he wasn't home. I went on to resume other errands. He called back and said he was upstairs. I turned around and re-visited his house. Turns out that he made a few errors, probably because he didn't take any written notes during our first conversations. He put the new strings on the wrong guitar, and didn't perform the requested adjustment on one of the guitars. I still paid, because what was I supposed to do? When he gave me the hand-written receipt, it was folded in half with the writing on the inside. I got the sense that he was trying to hide what was written on it... I left, thinking that I'd never go back. He didn't even answer me when I said "have a nice day." I'll be looking for another guitar repair shop. read more

Brian did an incredible job repairing my P bass, which was beautiful, and then was dropped on asphalt and damaged quite a bit...now it looks brand new. And Brian dialed in the rest of the guitar while he had it. Fair pricing and easy to work with. read more

I'm not sure about the other negative review but I had an excellent experience. I brought my Epiphone acoustic to Brian to help me get rid of some annoying buzz after the 7th fret. Yes Brian's shop is behind a residential house and a little difficult to get to, but with Denver's real estate costs I am not sure how he could keep decent prices anywhere else. Work took about a week, which was fine since I wasn't in a rush, gave me some time to play my other guitars. Brian was able to get rid of my fret buzz, and give me a cleaner sound and feel overall. He also was less than having the same thing done at guitar center, and I was able to support a local guitar enthusiast. Sure I was handed my bill of sale folded, but it showed clearly what I was paying for, and I think was a great deal. I also played my guitar before I left and he asked several times if I needed additional adjustment, what he had done, and if I was happy. I will be visiting Brian for all my local guitar luthier needs now. read more
