Houston Pets Alive!

Houston Pets Alive!

On April 11, I adopted a very sweet brown tabby cat through the organization, PetsAlive. I named…read moremy new cat Theodore and was told that Theo had been found on the streets and had recently had scabies, eye surgery and skin issues - all of which seemed to be healing nicely. I was never told of his extensive dental disease or that he had feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). I noticed that Theo's energy level seemed a little low, but he was eating very well and didn't display any signs of digestive issues. I DID notice that his breath was very smelly, so I took him to my veterinarian. The long story made short is that Theo will have to have several teeth extracted and his length and quality of life could be affected because bloodwork showed that he is positive for FIV. I have requested that PetsAlive take care of the dental issues Theo has since I can't afford thousands of dollars for teeth to be extracted. My concern of permanently returning Theo to PetsAlive is that his cycle of being an unwanted rescue cat will continue. His life could be one of going from adoption site to adoption site and never being adopted because of his bad teeth and FIV diagnosis. Please be aware that, according to my veterinarian, there are several no kill shelters that DON'T test animals for FIV or leukemia. Before you adopt an animal, please ask if the animal has been thoroughly tested for diseases that could affect the animal's health and wellbeing.

I really appreciate rescues like this that really care! I just recently went to Barktoberfest. I brought my dogs and we dressed up! Was such a fun time! The best event yet! Great vendors and a doggie costume contest. Hope they do this every year. Special thanks to Kathryn Riccio for all her help when we were at the event!

Rosenberg Animal Shelter is the only official No Kill animal shelter in all of Fort Bend County!…read more *(Don't confuse it with the Fort Bend County shelter, which happens to be right across the street from Rosenberg shelter!) I'm so proud of the meaningful and life-saving programs that have been implemented at Rosenberg shelter since the city resolved to become No Kill! In fact, they have now been officially No Kill for more than a year now and that is a phenomenal accomplishment that we should all applaud! With Mara Hartsell as the director, Rosenberg Shelter has become a shining beacon of light in our area. She believes in and follows the proven No Kill model and treats every animal as an individual. The No Kill policies that she has put into place have resulted in complete transparency with the community. Her consistent monthly reports ensure that all citizens know the outcome of every animal in the shelters care. The creative marketing that the shelter uses on Facebook and other mediums is impressive and has proven to be a crucial element towards the increase in adoptions and fosters. Volunteers have flocked to Rosenberg Animal Shelter because they know that the animal they help take care of today, will still be alive tomorrow and that means the world to volunteers! I commend Rosenberg Animal Shelter for their hard work, compassion, customer service, and their dedication to life-saving programs! Please go to Rosenberg Animal Shelter and - adopt, foster or volunteer! You will always be welcomed with a smile!

When I called to verify if they were still coming to pick up the kittens, they expressed it was a misundertaing and they wouldn't come and pick up the kittens as they had told me a couple hours before.

Pup Squad Animal Rescue - Can you take her?

Fourth Ward, Downtown

Like the other reviewers said, the building itself is very accomodating, clean, and airy. The pups are mostly in crates, but some are in pigpen-type play areas where you can pet and pick up the dogs. For the most part, the dogs are all well behaved and you can tell they live with foster families. The day we got Bentley, we kept trying to decide on the big commitment, and the volunteers were more than helpful and friendly in assisting us to make a decision. They by no way forced us or tried to talk us into adopting one way or the other. B's foster mother wasn't at the event when we were there, but another volunteer called her on her own cell and let us talk to her about him before we decided (see, friendly!). When we decided to go for it, we sat down and filled out an application, which is quite lengthy and asks a lot of questions that ensures you are really ready for the commitment. When completed, you then sit down with a volunteer that goes over your application with you and answers any questions you may have. They are also very good about screening to make sure you will be able to take care of the dog in an appropriate manner (people who work 14 hours a day, don't bother...and you shouldn't have a dog anyway!) After all the logistics were done, we paid the $150 (could even use our card on their laptops), and they gave us our little man. The volunteer even took us to the back area and clipped his nails for us and gave us a collar and leash for free! Since our pup was only 2 months old, he hadn't had his rabies shot, neuter, or microchip yet, so they set us up with a vet close to home that will do it all for us and he is going next week! They emailed with me back and forth a week or so after we got him and coordinated all of it around our schedule...and we won't have to pay for anything. All in all, an amazing agency and they do amazing work. I would adopt from them again in a second if I had room for another puppy! Oh and the best part, was at 2 months old my little B was already paper trained! It made transitioning to outdoors a lot easier on us, and our rugs =) LOVE Pup Squad!

The rented space is large, airy, and spacious enough for several kennels to line the walls without overcrowding. Due to the high ceiling, warehouse style accomodation, it smells fairly fresh & clean in here. It's also dark and cool, and most dogs were found napping their way through the morning...a stark difference from other adoption places I've been to. It was easy to move through the space, and foster parents sat next to their pups like proud parents, eager to do a show and tell if so requested. What I liked most about this place is that the dogs here seemed to be happy! I rarely saw nervous, jittery dogs. Most were in their kennel, eager to play with visitors; others in their foster parents' arms, and some napping, barely opening an eye to peer at us. Though I did not come away with a new child that day, I wouldn't hesitate adopting one from this group. I spent a good 20 minutes talking to a foster mom about this organization and I'm completely thankful and hopeful that there are still many altruistic people left in this world. If you're considering adding a member to your family, please put Pup Squad Animal Rescue on your list as a must-visit.
