The last few weeks have been difficult to say the least with several errors. That being said they did make it right all around. Thank you Rachel Carpenter for stepping up and making the tough decisions. Being the VP of a company that size is not easy especially when the errors are completely out of your hands for some of the parts. For a company that promotes standing by a small community for small business and hard working individuals they struggled this time around but have made every effort to fix it. I worked with Jerry Moynagh in the Mendota heights office when I needed help obtaining a PPP loan, due to covid. The PPP loan is this thing that sounds great, and leaves all involved with many questions and uncertainty. Like any other banker working on those loans, Jerry had piles of work on his desk, and he still managed to respond to my emails. Over the years I have done a great deal of business with this bank, and have had an overall positive experience. But recently, they brought in a new business banking officer who seems bound and determined to repel any sort of business banking transactions. Robert Mahler has been very effective at turning me from a satisfied customer of this bank into a exceedingly happy customer of another bank. Bottom line, Deerwood is fine for personal checking and savings, but if you have business to do in Bemidji, Deerwood is no longer a bank that wants to work with the business community. read more

We have a cabin on a lake near Bemidji so we set up a checking account at Deerwood Bank so we could write checks to local vendors, cash checks, use the ATM, etc. Since we use our cabin seasonally, our bank account saw only occasional use. Unbeknownst to us, Deerwood Bank closed our account due to "inactivity" and sent our balance in a check to our local/cabin address. We do not receive mail at our cabin so the check sat at the Post Office for months until I discovered that Deerwood Bank had closed our account. Luckily, the Post Office was able to find my check and I got my money back. When I complained about my account being closed without anyone from Deerwood Bank notifying me, I was treated rudely and told it was my fault. As far as I'm concerned, Deerwood Bank has very poor customer service and I'll never bank there again. read more
