I went to Deerhurst for a company conference recently, it was my second time visiting, but I'll count it as my first time since I was able to experience much more of what it had to offer this time around. Driving up there with the fall colours - spectacular. It's really in a beautiful spot, so it had that going for it. It didn't have....much else? I mean granted - I was NOT going there for golf, and it's more of a golf resort. There is not a lot to do once you're there and it's off-season. We did the escape rooms (2 out of the 4) and they were FANTASTIC! Well put together, good props and the rooms were fun. They weren't too hard to figure out but a fun challenge. Aside from these rooms and some ax throwing...that's it for 'fun'. The restaurants were fine - breakfast brunch was a good mix, dinner was tasty...I had steak on one of the nights and it was delicious and made with care. Nothing stood out about the food, it tasted good and there was a decent variety to choose from. The rooms were very run of the mill, kinda outdated and what you might expect at an older resort in northern Ontario. Nothing to rave about. Was this the place I'd choose for a company retreat? Probably not - but only because you're stuck in 1 spot eating at the same places every day...but if you're only here for a day or 2, it would be ok. read more

We stayed from Mon - Fri (Jan2 - Jan6, 2023) and it was our first visit to Deerhurst. No thanks to the unseasonably warm weather, there was rain from Mon - Wed which kept us from our original plan to hit the slopes for the week. Thankfully, Deerhurst had enough indoor activities (pool, game room, climbing wall, escape rooms, nightly activities including a very good magic show...etc) to keep us busy until the weather finally cleared enough to go skiing at the nearby Hidden Valley Resort on Thurday and Friday. Our room was well appointed (stayed in Summit Lodge) but there were a few things that did not work very well (fridge didn't get cold enough and water pressure in the shower was weak.). It was also inconvenient to schlep all our gear up and down the stairs without an elevator but that's on us. Note to self for the next visit. We ate at the Maple bar (tavern?) on our first night (nachos, wings and a pizza) and the beers (Muskoka brewery) were flat and the food was ho hum. Next morning's breakfast buffet at the Compass fared a bit better with good selection of entrees but weak coffee. Freshly squeezed OJ was a big hit with our girl. Last night's dinner at the Compass was probably the best meal at the resort but rather pricey for what you get (2 drinks, charcuterie board, octopus salad and chicken fingers for $100+). There was a magic show we attended with incredibly kind magician, Don Gudel and the infamous Cookie the Rabbit, which my daughter loved! The magician was patient and genial. He took the time to give ALL the kids who did not get a chance to volunteer during the show a chance to experience his magic first hand by staying a whole hour later to entertain his little guests. We got a chance to stroll around the resort grounds and from what we could see, it would make for a very lovely visit during the summer months as well. Maybe that's what we'll plan for our next visit to Deerhurst. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and would consider returning. read more

Deerhurst Resort - Golf Near Me - Huntsville, Ontario

I was a bit nervous given the other Yelp reviews but we were looking for a short getaway in nature while visiting Toronto so we thought we'd stay at Deerhurst for a few days. Muskoka is nice and we got the fresh air we wanted, but we were disappointed in the stay and thought it is a really outdated and spartan resort. I don't think I would stay here again. My parents booked us at Lakeside Lodge as we have young kids and wanted a two room suite (I think it was about $850/night before taxes and fees). They stayed in a one room suite (about $500/night before taxes and fees). And this was for the view of the parking lot. Our suite was spacious, and the kitchen was very large and open format with the dining area and living room area. The room was also perfectly clean, and air conditioned, with a large balcony. But while it had most of the basics, it was pretty spartan. Yes there was dishwashing detergent, dishwashing powder, a sponge, some coffee and coffee filters, etc, but we had to immediately go out for a grocery run to get paper towels, more coffee, etc. There were two Kleenex boxes for the whole suite, and only 5 or 6 thin bath towels for the two rooms. The towels and bath mat were so thin, they were quickly drenched, and the toilet paper was one ply at best. We had a pool and jacuzzi in front of the lodge with a beautiful view of the lake, and there were lake activities you could access for free if you signed a waiver, like kayaks, paddle boarding, and obviously roped off swimming that was great for the kids. But it wasn't a large area and it got crowded in the afternoons. We enjoyed the kayaking down the little canal, but it wasn't a particularly scenic view (kids still enjoyed the dragonflies, lily pads, and spotting houses along the banks). There were bath towels that were the size of large hand towels and again super thin. The complex is also a bit confusing and could do with more signage. My dad got lost a couple times driving into a mass of hotel units instead of exiting Deerhurst as he was trying to do. We ate at the main hotel a couple of times. Based on other Yelp reviews I skipped the buffet, but Compass was actually pretty great food wise. Like all of our Huntsville experiences (this was August), the food was pretty good but the service and wait times for food were incredibly long. My parents played golf and said the course was not well maintained. They were pretty disappointed. In any case, I gave this a 3 since it seemed too harsh to give a 2, but I wouldn't be excited about another trip back. read more

My one-night stay at Deerhurst was related to a company retreat outing in the Muskoka region, so I spent practically nothing for being here. Nonetheless I'll speak to the various observations and experiences I've had here to describe an overall impression. It wasn't too bad but could work on a lot of fronts. Cheers. CHAPTER 1: THE MADMAN'S TALE OF COVID-19 PROTOCOLS (AS OF OCT. 2021) If you show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status at the hotel check-in desk, you will be given a wristband which basically allows you to bypass being constantly carded for immunization proof throughout the resort grounds wherever current government policy mandate such requirements (for indoor dining, the spa and gym, rock climbing wall, etc.). Granted not everything at Deerhurst is fully open--for example their bar remains closed. Best to check their website for the latest of how they're handling things. CHAPTER 2: THE ABSURDIST'S ACCOUNT OF RESORT AMENITIES It's smack in the Muskoka woods, but being just off Hwy 60 it's also not a far drive from Algonquin Provincial Park and many popular central Ontario hunting grounds. The main pavilion building is where you check in, and also where most of the resort's amenities and conference venues are contained. I didn't get to check out all their features though, but found it was difficult to navigate through the building to, say, find the pool--some wayfinding signs would be very helpful. There's a tiny gift shop in a corner somewhere which didn't have much of anything beyond convenience store goods and local maple syrup-types of souvenirs in a desperate bid for me to blow the remainder of my company-issued resort gift card. Deerhurst is known for its golf courses surrounding the lands (I don't golf), some neat hiking trails across the road which I checked out a bit of for my morning walk, and there's also their Antler Steakhouse which is a bit of a drive off-site. Overall a picturesque recreational resort to say the least. CHAPTER 3: THE WACKO FOODIE'S MEAL GUIDE Antler Steakhouse was certainly the highlight of my stay. Impeccable service and amazing food. Even the small bites like their fries were out of this world--what do they garnish them with?! The Kobe steak ($155--or $0 if the boss is covering it haha) was a pillowy trip. By complete contrast was breakfast at Eclipse Restaurant located in the main building. You have to find and walk through the Eclipse Art Gallery displays to get to it (again, signage would help lead the way damnit). It's large, bustling with large families and tourists getting their first meal of the day in. You have the choice of ordering from the bland breakfast menu (grilled cheese, eggs benny, oatmeal, etc.) or chucking away the menu and helping yourself to the breakfast buffet bar. Judging from how minimal service was (a server was only sighted (re)filling coffee and insisting I need to add cream to mine), might as well do the buffet. Cereal from a dispenser, bacon strips and sausages, eggs... the quality of the food was akin to the free but lousy continental breakfasts I recall having from cheap airport hotels. It absolutely can be better for what this resort as a whole is worth. CHAPTER 4: THE LAZYMAN'S SLEEP ACCOMMODATIONS REPORT There are a variety of lakeside suites and condos in the many outbuildings. But I was put up in a hotel room in the main building which isn't even lake-fronting. Believe all the rooms have an own balcony, which in itself was well-worn and could use a repaint. The room itself was slightly basic/dated looking, especially the bathroom. It had the ambience of a Holiday Inn or an airport/off-the-highway suburban hotel room. I wasn't expecting a Fairmont level of high luxury, maybe a bit more upscale along the lines of a Hilton or Delta--but walking in the room felt there was much to be desired of a place like Deerhurst to convey an overall resort impression decor-wise. It was a pretty large room though for a two-queen-bed, visually clean, basic in-suite amenities like a coffee maker, and quite cozy beds. Then again in perspective I was only going to be here for one night. CHAPTER 5: THE G8 SUMMIT LEGACY In 2010 Deerhurst was the venue for a G8 summit. They're forever proud of this international moment, with relics thereof found in the main building, including a display upstairs, and certain hotel room doors with plaques highlighting which world leader stayed in there. I paused for a moment in my room with its modest decor and dated bathroom and wondered how commoner it must feel for the likes of Stephen Harper to be in a room like mine. Then I remember what a gigantic waste of $1 billion it was to even have that G8 summit, combined with its followup G20 summit in Toronto days later (the latter of which had since evaporated as one of the darkest shameful shit-stains on Canadian history... but that's a topic for another writeup in another place #neverforget). Wow Deerhurst !!! Never in my life have I ever experience as a server or a customer what I did today!!! Not only did the 2 different tables beside me have to send their food back twice but so did we.... And to still be charged $250 for 1 out of 5 of us to eat !! While your supervisor stood in the kitchen the whole time! I work in the industry and I by far did not expect anything for free!! All I can say is WOW!! if you are looking for a gigantic corporation that issues you a final bill and you pay it, then out of the blue they charge your credit card with an extra fee that even the front desk even find in their records or even explain in a telephone call, the Deerhurst resort is the place for you. If I have to travel for a dance competition, then let it more often be to places like Deerhurst. Originally the hotel was packed so I could only get a very expensive suite far from the main building despite booking months in advance. They waitlisted me for a much less expensive room, one actually came up, and they called me! I was already pleased and we had not even arrived! Their pre-check in procedure was easy and I wish more people had used it. The hotel sent everyone attending the dance competition discounts of 25% in their restaurants during their stay. Another win. The rooms were nice and spacious for the price. Clean. We had a gorgeous balcony overlooking the parking garage. My kid joked that the closet was from Narnia because it opened to both the bedroom and wash area. I'm not sure it was their best idea to host a dance competition and a prom at the same time, but it was a nice treat to see all the fancy dresses. read more

I was at the CPBI Ontario Regional Conference this week ... it was held at Deerhurst from Wednesday 'til today. My room was in the main building. There are various lodges scattered around the property. The farthest is about a ten minute walk down by the lake. My room was on the ground floor, facing the parking lot. My sliding doors led to a communal patio. I took a walk around the property on Tuesday afternoon and headed to the lake. It was gorgeous with the leaves changing colours. I ate in the lobby bar a couple times. I had a pound of wings with Big Poppa Jim's honey garlic sauce ($17) on Tuesday evening for supper ... they were big, messy and delicious! I had the House Pulled Pork Sandwich made with Muskoka Cream Ale barbecue sauce with fries ($14.99) on Wednesday for lunch. It was okay ... the BBQ sauce tasted a bit too ketchupy and the fries were a bit burnt. But it was a big meal and I couldn't finish it. The resort provided our meals during the conference. We had chicken breast with mushroom sauce and mushroom ravioli for lunch yesterday. I'm not a fan of mushrooms so just ate the chicken, which was delicious. For supper last night, we had bacon-wrapped tenderloin and mashed potatoes and it was delicious. Parking was free. You have to sign up for WIFI every day. You can get it for free or pay about $10 a day for high speed .... I found the free WIFI fast enough. There are a couple golf courses nearby ... we had a golf tournament at one of them. read more

Grounds are beautiful! I have stayed here number of times, always for work. This is my first time staying in the main building. The "out buildings" are much nice in the rooms however the convenience of being in the main building is worth it. Still very nice, just older. Food was a bit disappointing. Risotto cakes were quite good. Chicken mean was just ok with very fatty chicken. The chicken wings were close to terrible. Pasta was dry and bland. It's unfortunate that such a beautiful destination serves such terrible food. My expectation was much higher. Service was good. Atmosphere in resort and restaurant is great and very relaxing. read more

I can't wait to go back this Wednesday. After my husband and I got married we took a short mini-MOON to Deerhurst Resort in October. It was so wonderful - I can see why people love Muskoka and it was a treat to dine and lodge at Deerhurst. Their fall-menu was so amazing. I can't wait to go back this Wednesday-Friday. My family and I have stayed at Deerhurst many times over the years (decades) and we used to greatly enjoy the experience. Our most recent stay was very disappointing and despite continued very high prices, there has been a noticeable deterioration in the facilities and guest amenities- some examples are: - the back 9 holes of the Lakeview golf Course have seemingly been closed and let to to waste with large weeds growing out of the sand traps and the greens turned to sand - the large flotation devices in the splash area are gone and the beach area is overgrown with weeds - the food prices continue to escalate with a $40/person buffet looking more like a kids buffet with little quality food on offer ( The main food offerings were Mac and cheese, pizza made on a thick bread, chicken nuggets, small pogo sticks of hot dogs and a small amount of skewers of meat and fish. There was corn on the cob and half potatoes. The previous buffets were wonderful and we enjoyed it immensely. -the walkway from the Maple Restaurant to the road was very cracked and difficult and dangerous to walk on and the gold green next to Maple which was a big hit with children is no longer there. It was a good distraction for children who dined at Maple - our one-bedroom Greens condo was rundown with dirty brown shag carpet throughout - key restaurants and food trucks are closed mid week despite the resort being near full Needless to say we will not be returning and are looking for other Muskoka resorts to visit. I recommend Muskoka visitors look elsewhere for accommodations. read more

We had stayed over the weekend (arrived Sat and check out Sun), the temps were about 0 degrees C and it had just snowed a few days before. Upon approaching the resort it looked like a winter wonderland. Perfect as one of the reason we chose Deerhurst is to try snow shoeing for the first time. The resort offers an array of winter activities: snow tubing, snowmobiling, as mentioned snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and skating. Only snow tubing was not available during our stay because there wasn't enough snow accumulation at the base. The snow shoe trails are located across the street from the main building. It was around 3 in the afternoon when we got settled and suited up (I came prepared with snow pants, long johns and all :)) the sun sets around 4:30, so we decided to take the scenic trail to the top over looking the resort. It was a blast! The snow shoes were modern light aluminum not those tennis racket wooden ones, easy to put on, and can surprisingly claw over some gnarly terrain. Watch the ice though. I admit I explored some less travelled paths :) The accommodations were alright, decorated in earth tones, we had stayed in the main building. The room had a 2 sinks, recent model 42" LG LCD TV, and a nice step out balcony view of the property. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating and never hesitating to offer assistance or a smile. A nice spot to visit in the Muskokas. 3.5 stars read more

We stayed here for two nights in Dec 2013... The resort is very spread-out...we stayed in a 2-bedroom condo (building 24) which was really like two separate hotel rooms side by side rather than one self-contained unit...one room had a king bed plus separate living room, kitchen, fireplace and balcony; the other room had two beds. Each room had its own bathroom with whirlpool tub. The room interiors were nice enough...pretty standard hotel fare; they didn't seem renovated. The balcony view was of nothing in particular. As we walked around the grounds it felt like a ghost-town and I really wished they would have just given us a condo with a lake view, since it seemed the resort wasn't very busy at all. A lake view makes all the difference, in my opinion. One big disappointment: although the fireplace in the room was 'real' (not gas) they don't provide any firewood. Instead, they provide one "firelog" per day (you know those logs made of fire-starter and sawdust or whatever...they burn for awhile). If you wanted to purchase more firelogs, they're like $7 apiece. The indoor pool was fine; as predicted, the hot tub was a popular amenity and was therefore full of people. The games room was a let-down....no arcade games or pool table to speak of but rather, gambling games (Plinko, etc) where you collect tickets for crappy little prizes. My folks said the food at Deerhurst was great but we were a little underwhelmed, particularly by the bar menu (burger, fries, caesar salad, etc). The Sunday brunch was good but not great. (For what it's worth, my folks also said the Saturday floor shows here are fantastic but we didn't see one). If you're reading this review and looking for a little getaway from Toronto, we've always enjoyed our stays at Elmhurst in Keene Ontario; the drive is shorter than Deerhurst; almost all cabins are directly on the lake with full lake-view; the main building is always walking distance from your cabin; they provide unlimited firewood; the restaurant food and Sunday brunch are very good.....but you'll spend about the same as you would at Deerhurst and Elmhurst is definitely more on the rustic side. We were disappointed. We had multiple rooms and found the service sub-par. Phones aren't answered and when they are the staff can't provide answers to basic questions. In the new building where we stayed, construction continues and it is a mess. Painting, landscaping, furniture deliveries occurred throughout our entire stay creating a dirty and disheveled appearance in our building. Our sink had a leak requiring repair. I have decided to write a review of Deerhurst Resort after being a timeshare owner at the resort since 1987. This used to be the jewel of Muskoka and our family enjoyed many happy and special memories of Deerhurst with service and amenities beyond your expectations. It had all of the gorgeous traditions that the Waterhouse family envisioned for a lovely retreat from the city. HOWEVER, since then, the resort has been passed around by many different owners, both national and international, and the upkeep of Deerhurst has been deplorable. We pay thousands of dollars in maintenance fees, divided by many owners AND YET, we have seen very little of our investment back. The owners of Deerhurst evade us in providing its timeshare owners with a capital reserve fund update, we suspect, because they do not want us to see how much money they are sitting on that we need to have to fix the units. NO ONE would want to book and rent these places with these conditions! We have the same washer and dryer since 1987. We have wallpaper literally falling off of the walls. The carpets are stained. The hot tub no longer works properly. The bathroom fans do not work properly. THERE IS NOT EVEN PROPER TECHNOLOGY to stream on the severely outdated television sets. The furniture is outdated, poor, cheap quality and uncomfortable as hell. The dining chairs are all sticky and 30+ years old. WHERE HAS THE MONEY GONE, Deerhurst! The beaches are dirty and the food at the restaurants is poorly made, given the price you have to pay. We have a great family friend whose daughter worked at the Eclipse restaurant and the stories we heard were not good! We have reached out to the Timeshare Management team many times who have given us sympathies but nothing is done and we feel our requests have gone ignored. In total, our family has probably invested over $100,000 into this timeshare and over the years, have recommended this resort to hundreds of people. Please bring this resort and our timeshare units to the condition that is worthy of a 5 star resort. read more

Pleasantly surprised. We stayed overnight and partook in a dinner/show combo being offered. In the main fine dining restaurant... I recommend the Alberta Tenderloin! Juicy succulent morsels of perfection. I am forced to update my "best steak experience", and give my compliments to the chef. Mushroom reduction sauce was fabulous... being an unofficial connoisseur of potatoes, I'm personally not a fan of the flavour of fingerling potatoes, but that's not a fault of the restaurant. You get your steak exactly the way you order it! This may seem an odd comment, but I find it a rarity these days. Various awards on the walls of the dining room touting the wonderfulness of the wine selection. (did not have wine that night, but there were parings with every dish on the menu) Many of the suites have been recently renovated (especially in the offsite buildings) as it has been taken over by new owners, who are part of the Skyline group, and are familiar with what it takes to offer quality - thus more upgrades coming in the future. The very nice thing about the satellite buildings was - each one has it's own "lobby" thus you're not banished to the main hotel lobby if you're looking to stretch your legs and find a place to relax. (thus one could book a room, then have friends come up for dinner, then relax in your private lobby, without having to hang out in the suite) Friendly staff, you can "order" when the daily cleaning crew comes to the room upon arrival, which is a nice touch. The suite had it's own bedroom - one wall kitchen including a dishwasher, cook top and convection microwave, 4 sets of dinnerware etc., which is rather handy. (called a rentable suite - owned by a real person, but Deerhurst takes care of the rental management when the owners aren't going to be staying there - apparently they're going to be building condos on the waterfront - and would imagine the same process would apply) I would have given it 5 stars, but one of the staff touted the show as "Las Vegas quality" ... hmmm... While it was funny and engaging, and quite enjoyable for what it was (music through the decades medley from 50's to 2010) I wouldn't go quite as far to say that. All in all, a great experience, and is a good bookmark for grabbing an easy one-stop getaway. read more

Horrible Experience at this dump... This place used to be one of the best resorts in Ontario. Unfortunately it has been taken over by Skyline Investments who have about the same business ethics as Donald Trump. It is very obvious that they are closing this place down and replacing it with Condo's. The place falsely lured us into coming up here for a winter get away - it was a scam. We are considering lodging a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about their antics. The place is downright dirty. I have stayed in 2 star motels that were much cleaner than our room was. This was supposed to be a 4 star resort yet the beds were old and uncomfortable, the towels were paper thin, the cleaning staff does not do their job - the place is downright dirty and a dump. We feel truly ripped off staying here this weekend. I just wish they would just close this place down and turn it into Condos or whatever they plan to do with it but stop duping innocent tourists. read more

The resort was very nice with a lot of options for things to keep you busy. We came up in mid September for our honeymoon but unfortunately it seems to be mid-season for the resort and not many activities were available. It was too late in the season for some summer activities and too early for winter activities. We still managed to keep busy with horseback trail rides, tennis, hiking trails, swimming (indoor pool), rock climbing wall, canoeing and a live entertainment show at night. The food at all the restaurants was delicious (slightly pricey though). I recommend Steamers Steakhouse.... tons of options even for a vegetarian like me Our ground floor lakeside room with a walkout balcony got lots of attention from the nearby duck population!! Check in and check out was easy, overall a great experience. read more

Filthy hallways. Breakfast buffet: soggy food. Took over an hour to get food at compass restaurant. No bread to tie you over. Messed up parents 50th anniversary dinner reservation, but did fix it. Just disappointed them. Would not return. Better breakfast at 3guys and a stove. read more

The location is post card perfect. The resort is nestled between green hills right on a sleepy lake. Various water activities for free. Indoor and outdoor pools not to mention a relaxing beach. read more

I requested a crib and was told no problem to then see it's a pack and play and they have no cribs, the pack and play is disgusting and broken !!! Terrible service, deceptive advertising (see my review of their spa). Arrival day (February 22, w022) was freezing rain - the walkways were frozen over. Slick. Very dangerous to walk on, and they remained that way for the evening and night. I saw several people sip and fall, including a father carrying an infant/very young child who both fell. The child began crying frantically after they fell. Another man came to their aid, and he fell too. This was near the main entrance at around 4:30 or so (if this is you and you're reading this and want a witness, message me - I saw it all). We almost wiped out too. All the walkways were icy and were not salted until the next morning. For a winter destination, we expected some level of maintained walkways and hike ways. To start, the view was incredible and room size was good. That's about where it ends. It is very clear management is trying to save money and its reflective in alot of ways. There were bags of garbage throughout. The floor, lockers and general state of the pool change rooms were disgusting. We sat by the fireplace in the lobby and no staff clear other people's dirty glasses and garbage. The roads in the resort are full of potholes. With all of the competition from other places and Airbnb's it's a miracle how much this place charges and how poorly kept it is. Dont expect little soaps in your room either, they cut that cost too. I booked a couple of nights stay for October 2020. I was told when I booked I would get a full refund If I had to cancel. What I wasn't told is that they hold your money until booking day to give you your refund. So they are holding onto my money for 2 months. They say because of covid. It's ridiculous in my opinion. Went for a blues and brews event. Clean room comfy bed. Not a big fan of where our room was located (first room off lobby with a face the parking lot ground floor patio) however was surprised by how quiet it was considering. No individual toiletries just large squeeze bottles. Seemed to have a lot of families in the pool at brunch etc. The marche concept and food were well done. Loved the duck, smoked salmon and pickerel. The desserts were lovely. The beer sampling while good quality was misleading in its description as it didn't seem like a lot of choice (the stout in the dessert for example wasn't there) I'd go back for sure but would be pickier about room location. read more

Visited Deerhurst recently for a company retreat. It is a pretty big resort, lots of exterior buildings varying in size and amenities. From what I saw the rooms inside the main building are just your run of the mill hotel rooms, decent enough but no kitchenette or living space like the buildings outside of the main hotel. For work functions they are suitable with very large banqueting halls, although this does mean any music played during the night echoes horribly. My biggest annoyance had to be the wifi in the main building, it was the absolutely shit. With the intention to get some work done in my free time over the weekend, this basically did not happen. My laptop rarely connected and when it did it would never stay connected. The staff proved useless in this case. Second would be the ability for room cards to just stop working. At first I blamed myself for maybe putting the card in the same pocket with my phone but after going through my 6th card this was definitely not the case. So prepared for many walk backs to the reception. Finally no outdoor hot-tub! Come on so much space and potential and no sign of an outdoor pool or hot-tub. I am sure in summer it is a much nicer place but not somewhere I would return to. read more

I had a chance to stay here last weekend. It was too cold to do any water activities but this time of year is great to see the changing colors of all the trees. Also played two rounds of golf as the they have two courses to choose from. I enjoyed evenings on the dock - they had had a row of Muskoka chairs and a fire going. Some more details: - Decent gym - Had an arcade and climbing wall for the kids - Bar in the main building was good, nice atmosphere with great service. A small dinner menu was rather good, mostly pub food (only opens at 5pm). - The main dining room was very good for dinner, but a little pricey. - Good breakfast buffet in the mornings. - We completed all the hiking trails which were not to difficult. You can get a map from the main desk. Fall is a beautiful time to hike. - They have horseback riding and carriage rides. - We stayed in a one bedroom condo. The rooms were large and included a full kitchen. They even had a mini home theater. The Condos are a little dated but very clean. - VERY comfortable bed. Had a great time. Will definitely go back in the summer to enjoy the many water activities. You can rent all kinds of boats and water toys. So nice to get out of the big city. Also close to Algonquin Park which is worth visiting since the resort is only 20 minutes away. read more

Came here with a group for a wedding nearby. Setting: spread over a large area including golf course, recreational lake and forest land. Unfortunately cannot comment on the above due to inclement weather. Decor is of a 'hunting lodge' feel with obligatory deer heads and antlers as well as wheels and sepia-toned maps of the local area. Bar: was rather lacklustre in decor, bar staff a little slow and limited drinks selection. Did have a nice local live music duo while we were there. Shows live sports which is great. Room: we stayed in a separate condo with three bedrooms. Clean comfortable and hygge. Indoor safety fireplace was excellent as was the self contained kitchen. Bathrooms were clean and beds large and comfortable. Staff: reception staff somewhat unresponsive when we asked for a taxi, offering to give us the number ourselves. Not a huge problem in and of itself but somewhat disappointing in that it takes away from the feeling of being served. read more

Thanks to all the reviews of Deerhurst - I was a bit apprehensive at first as most reviews gave it an average rating: rooms were older, utensils lacking in the kitchen, mediocre service...It just seemed that Deerhurst was old and caught in time. Based on that, I made sure to book the Renovated Rooms (on Deerhursts' website). My cousin and her boyfriend were in town from England so I wanted to make sure their time was well spent. We went end of October so I wasn't expecting huge crowds (good for us as we hate crowds). Check-in We arrived Monday at around 1pm and I was hoping that our room would be ready. Reading other reviews, it appears that their check-in time of 4pm is strictly enforced, and even then, some reviews mention that check-in was much later. Again, because it was end of October, I was thinking it wouldn't be an issue. It wasn't. Our room was ready and located in building 27-301 (top floor unit). This was not in the main building but 5 min drive away. Service was smiley and quick. Room 27-301 Lovely space for 4 people: fully stocked kitchen (dishes, dish soap, detergent, coffee maker, water boiler, assortment of pots/pans, cutlery, placemats, etc...), living room, and two big bedrooms (one with a King, and the other with two twins. Each had their own bathroom). Because we were here for two nights, we didn't get the cleaning/towel service. However, lots of towels were left in our rooms so it wasn't an issue. This unit was clean. Amenities Yes there is a daily resort fee, but we didn't maximize any of the facilities (gym, pool, etc...) because we took advantage of all the outdoor activities...mainly walking all the trails. With not too many people and leaves changing colors, all the trails are worth it (map given). There is a gift shop where one can get details on available activities. FYI - If you're planning on traveling to Deerhurst end of October, most of the outdoor activities such as Treetop Trekking, ATV and Paintball are either closed for the seasons or have limited hours. Please call way in advance to book these activities. Otherwise, take advantage of all the nature outside Restaurants We ate at the Compass one night and it was surprisingly good! We had yummy flatbread, wings, and steaks. Decent and one of the few options available at this time. Check-out Really easy and smiley. Done in 5 minutes. Overall, our experience of Deerhurst was really good. I think a big reason for that was we went during down season so most of the issues (large crowds, long waiting time) were not there for us. Having a resort pretty much to yourself, and with all that Fall Nature-ness was really nice. Our suite was great (we ate in one night) and clean. I would definitely recommend Deerhurst for a nice casual stay, during low season, and with amenities that should cater to a wide variety of tastes. read more

They renovated the Bayshore interior so it's a lot nicer than some of the review pics on trip advisor. We had an awesome view of the lake from our room. This was for a business event so my reviews might be biased. The splash pass seems like a steal of a deal as it is $20 for the entire stay and covers a lot of activities. I think this is perfect for kids, if I had kids that is. The food there was pretty good overall as well and had some selection. Only problem was all activities were fully booked and even the spa. I recommend booking in advance. read more

Stayed here for a work event. Very nice resort. OK rooms (lots of space, but, could use some updating). The breakfast (only meal I had there) was good. It was a big buffet in the main building. Everything you would expect of a higher-end resort North of Toronto. Good place to have some downtime, or to take your family (seemed like there was lots of activities for kids). read more

It's a lovely resort for winter activities. The fact that they provide snowshoes, cross country skis is amazing. We stayed in the condo units - not attached to the main building, but it was only a short walk to the lobby. I enjoyed the stay and the facilities are pretty top notch. It definitely has a family friendly resort type feeling if that's what you're looking for. Kids are everywhere! Seems to be busy year round. read more

This past weekend, my family and I stayed at two of the suites at Golf View. One of the rooms was on the 3rd floor while the other was on the first. Although both rooms were nice, we enjoyed the room on the third floor more as it was very well lit (it had more windows and sky light), had newer furniture, newer decor and most importantly a better view. In particular, the set up in our bedroom was nice as it had a small table next to the window with probably the best view in the house. The room on the first floor had very old furniture and it felt like the place was more dated. Aside from that, both rooms were clean and the beds (at lease the one we stayed on) was comfortable. The kitchen was also well equipped (plenty of silverware, pots, bowls, pans and spatula - even one for making pancakes). The restaurant at the lobby was also nice. Since our party was quite large, we had the buffet for everyone. The food was delicious. My only complaint is that it felt like there weren't enough food to be offered for a buffet. I also do not like the fact that there was a lack of signage to take you up to the rooms from the lobby. Just about everyone in our party missed the first right turn after the lobby and went straight up to another resort. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay and I wish I didn't live so far away! read more

I think it's a nice place. The main hotel where we stayed was just okay. The room was average and you could hear much of what people were doing in the rooms above and next to us. Better insulation I suggest. I'm a dog owner, still can't understand why people bring their pets to a resort and why the resort allows it ? Cool for the pet owners I guess but I can stay home to hear a dog bark. The hiking trail was great, food was good service at check in and the restaurant was okay, could be better. Lack of training I think. Spa was good. Staff was friendly We live 3+ hours away, not certain it's worth the $ and drive. Maybe if we did some snowmobiling I would come again. read more

Very cheap hotel. It's a well designed hotel but for the service I was not satisfied at all. Poor wifi.... I had to use my phone data all the time...Their house keeping is awful. There were flies and a big spider in our suit. cigarette filters were thrown on the balcony...the washroom is still dirty after they clean it.... the lobby is like a sauna cause the air conditioner is off.... They don't recharge little complementary things like coffee or sugar in your room.... even for the coffee filter you have to ask and wait a lot....they don't change your bedding. Although you can ask for it.... bottom line they try to save pennies and you have to ask for everything and wait and wait a lot... I won't ever go back there..... read more
