Chicken and Waffles
Brooks W.

We came here for Brunch to escape the cold. The chicken and waffles was one of the best meals we had on the trip. I kind of regret both of us not getting this. If you come for brunch, get the chicken and waffles. (The chicken and waffles deserves the 5th star.) I got a sampler plate with 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 1 Buffalo sausage, a small breakfast steak, and some breakfast potatoes. It was okay, but nowhere near as good as the chicken and waffles. Service was a bit slow, but we were also there at a bit of a weird time (so I think there was only 1 person taking care of everyone in the dining room).

Smoke trout Benedict.

Lovely location in a rustic old lodge close to the shore of Lake Louise. Dinners are nice and the service very pleasant but if you order from the menu at breakfast be prepared for a long wait. We have ordered breakfast from the menu three of five days - 25 minutes the first time, 15 the second and 40 minutes today and today - everyone else was having the buffet. Not sure what is wrong. The food was however very good. Overall a nice stay even if a bit frustrating at breakfast. Other good attributes are a guest laundry and pool table. Update - last day.. tried the buffet today thinking we'd be done in less than an hour. Waited 15 mins for the tray of eggs to be refreshed. No potatoes in sight for the duration. Plates ran out, cups ran out. Very frustrating given the price paid for the rooms here (CAD$425/night). Downgrading to 3 Star. But still the staff are very nice even if overwhelmed.

Rooms are really, really small. No fridge, no microwave, no TV, no A/C, miserable WiFi.

The room was really, really small - I could touch both walls at the same time. This meant that the bed was short and couldn't accommodate someone over 6 feet. The room was hot, so we had to keep the window open which let in the constant sound of some huge ventilation fan that kept us awake. Wifi was incredibly slow at less than 1 Mbps. The box lunch that came with the deal was actually good, but definitely not worth the $15 per person extra. The room rate at $350 was hard to swallow for this laughably small room, since it was only slightly less than the luxurious beautiful Chateau Lake Louise next door. We had stayed here two decades ago in a similarly small and disappointing room and had hoped they had improved things but we were disappointed.

Booked this room after staying at the Fairmont since my friend couldn't book us another night there. We paid $300 for the night. We expected a cozy and charming room as advertised, while also understanding the historic significance of the property and that it may lack in modern touches. WELL!! I walked in and I was shocked. I don't think the $300 room I paid for ever made the cut on the Deer Lodge website. It was super dark and dingy. There was one outlet preoccupied by a lamp. No mini fridge, coffee maker or kettle. No bathroom counter space. A mirror behind the door that you cannot see yourself in. It literally had zero comforting qualities. No basic necessities. I feel completely scammed into paying that much for the room my friend and I stayed in. The common areas were cute and had rustic details. Our room completely lacked in that area. Zero personal touches. I do not recommend staying here. Oh and the light in our bathroom was two different tones of bulb??? Not a big deal, just again, zero attention to detail.

Awesome snack after Lake Louise on the way back from some adventures and photography. Burger, beer, laughs. Accommodating staff.

My fiancee and I stayed at deer lodge over the Easter long weekend for a wedding. Overall, it was a pretty average experience but the phrase "you get what you pay for" was definitely accurate in this scenario. My fiancee and I only paid 360 for 3 days and 3 nights, which for lake Louise, is an amazing deal. Again, deer lodge is an older building, which I'm sure adds to the charm but our weekend was filled with inconveniences that made our stay simply average. Firstly, we didn't have hot water for almost 2 days. That was a tad annoying as my fiancee and I love and need our hot showers. Secondly, this issue was paired with there being no hot tub available. I had heard from our first night, that one one of the bridesmaids actually got a rash from the hot tub so the staff had to empty the hottub and refill it again. We finally tried it out on Sunday and it wasn't super hot, and was very strongly beach scented. Overall, though the rooftop tub was beautiful and in an ideal location; no complaints about that at all. The service was ok in general except housekeeping ended up leaving a giant bag of dirty towels in our bedroom on our 3rd day there. There is no room service here at all, so I went down to the lounge to get some dinner and brought the plate up to our room. The room we had was again average. There wasn't a balcony and you have to hold the toilet handle for about 20 seconds before it flushes. The bed was super comfortable though, but limited storage in the room itself. It's a great location and an excellent deal, money wise. However, I envision that these types of issues will continue to exist at deer lodge so just be aware of the inconveniences you might walk into, unless you're ok with dealing with them for the price you're getting.

My wife and I stayed here while on vacation in the Canadian Rockies and looking for affordable lodging near Lake Louise. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel has a really charming old-world wood lodge feel and is really beautiful. It's actually the exact kind of place I would have pictured staying in the Canadian Rockies. The rooms are quaint, so if you're looking for luxury this is not the place for you. Although, I'm not sure why anyone would be spending anytime in their room when in Lake Louise. The hot tub on the roof with a view of Lake Louise was very cool and definitely worth the time. So if you're looking for a great price/quality ratio in Lake Louise this is it! The hotel itself was a 3/4-star experience, but what put it over the top and made the 5-star rating absolutely necessary was the restaurant, which was by far the highlight. We had one of the best meals of our lives in the Deer Lodge restaurant, no exaggeration! The food, atmosphere and service were all spectacular and if you're staying here, you absolutely need to eat here. We had the Buffalo and Elk plate, Gnocchi and Quinoa cake. It was all incredible. The beer and drinks were also fantastic. I also have to mention our server, Riley, he was great. By the end of the meal, I felt like he was more of a friend rather than our server. He took the time to talk to us about the area, gave us great advice and really was everything you would want from a server at a tourist area like this. The hotel is great, but I would come back again just to eat at this restaurant.

View from the balcony of the "heritage rooms". Well worth the extra money over the standard rooms.

The hotel side of the house is certainly better then the restaurant. We stayed two nights and we're forced to book two separate rooms based on availability. No problems though as it's a touristy area and tight bookings are the norm. We checked in on the afternoon of our first day and the girl at the counter was very nice. She gave us our keys, and while she couldn't switch us to our room on the second day to save us a move, she offered to have our luggage moved the next morning which was nice of her. Our room the first night was a dump. It looked exactly like it probably did in the 1920's when it opened, only older. The room was roughly 12'x12' with a double bed, a rickety chair and desk, and a very small bathroom. No tv but that was not an issue. The next night our room was much nicer. I believe it was a "heritage room", but whatever it was called it was recently renovated and had a much cleaner feel. It also had a nice balcony with a mountain view. The bed in here was a king and it was WAY comfier then the prior night. Spend the extra coin and get the nicer room, you won't regret it.

Deer lodge is a gem in Lake Louise! It's rustic and has a hot tub on the roof with magnificent Mountain View's! It's older but that's what gives it its charm! They also have newer rooms so ask for them if you'd like the best of both worlds. The food at the restaurant is a must!!!!!

When we checked in, the staff was nice, but it seemed they overbooked our rooms, so they had to move us. They use regular keys, which while it has a nostalgia feel, it's not very secure. We ended up losing a key on the hike and they didn't have a key smith come out to change the locks, which I thought was interesting. It was very hot in the rooms, even in October. They didn't have air conditioning. They sent up a couple fans, which worked fine. It has an old cabin feel and while we liked that, there was water damage and mold on the upper walls/ceilings of the shower. I would stay again, especially due to the location and price to Lake Louise, but it isn't the most basically updated place. I love old cabin feels, but air conditioning, secure key locks, and no mold is a good start.

On your right as you go towards the actual Lake, away from the hamlet of Lake Louise.

When I came in the Summer of 2025, I noticed they use the 1883 Lavender syrup from France. Sounds fancy right? But it actually doesn't use any actual lavender syrup; the flavor is all artificial. It also contains Red 40 which has already been known to be a mutagen for 20+ years BEFORE, before RFK. My syrup had developed a microbial (bacterial most likely) biofilm and growths within the syrup. My syrup still has 6 months before the expiration date. If the syrup is being used quickly, then maybe it isn't a problem, but I don't think lavender is a super popular flavor. So if you're at the Fairmont, check the bottles of syrup flavorings before you order, especially if it is the 1883 brand. Also, if you're staying at the Fairmont Hotel...why don't they just make lavender simple syrup in the kitchen? You mean to tell me this fancy hotel can't afford to make simple syrup? It tastes better too.

For the afternoon tea, I got the Egyptian chamomile tea. It had sweet elements to it and was considered a flavored tea. I did try it with sugar and milk. Although it didn't taste bad, I prefer to have my tea without anything. The tea itself was good enough for me. In addition to the tea, my meal came with a glass of prosecco. For the food, I got their basic menu which comes with 4 varieties of cake, 2 pastries, 3 sandwiches, a croissant and deviled egg. They offer different foods as well depending on your dietary needs. They have seafood, vegetarian, kids menu and I believe gluten free as well. Wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. My waiter was so kind and helpful. My view from my table was beautiful. I plan on coming back again.

We loved the live music and the romantic feel. They have an amazing wine list (more like a novel). Service: Perfect! Our waters were consistently filled, and timing was nice. We liked how we weren't rushed between courses. Food: We had Hamachi as an appetizer. I asked where it was sourced and was surprised that neither the waiter nor chef knew the answer. For main course, I had the rack of lamb, my favorite. My husband had the bison tenderloin. Both were good. Not great. Both dishes were drowned in sauce. The sauce was way too salty to cover the entire plate. The food should always be the star and the sauce as a complement. One quarter of the sauce along the side would improve both meals. Last, we had some version of Tiramisu. It was very dry. The waiter was kind and took it off our bill. Would we return? Yes. The Post Hotel Dining Room is known for their sumptuous meals, upscale vibes, and massive wine cellar. I came here with my husband and the experience from start to finish was phenomenal. Our experience began at check-in by the large fireplace. After confirming reservations, we were shown to our seats where a staff member insisted on hang our coats for us. The setting is romantic and the dining room ceiling is decorated with lights and tree branches. There was even a single lit long candle on our table for ambience. Their wine menu is comprehensive! Their cellar holds over 22,000 bottles and has been awarded Wine Spectators Grand Award. In addition they have excellent seasonal cocktail menu. We started with a Holy Water cocktail followed by a bottle of Tattinger Brut Réserve champagne. The Holy Water cocktail is a mix of gin, elderflower, vermouth, and garnished with a kafir lime leaf. Very smooth and spirit forward. Food selection is something out of the movie Last Holiday. Reading the descriptions made us want to order everything. We did opt for the 4 course prix fixe menu. We ordered the crudo hamachi rose, pan seared scallops, miso black cod, and the mandarin tart for dessert. Every single dish was beautifully plated and delicious. The crudo was a great appetizer and shaped into little roses. The seared scallops was perfectly cooked and served with a caviar beurre blanc. The miso black cod was delicated and served with a ginger beurre blanc. Finally, the mandarin tart was nice blend of citrus and chocolate. I also ordered a Grand Marnier warmed up to go with dessert. Our meal concluded with a tour of the massive wine cellar. The sommelier walked us through the collection and showed us some rare bottles that available for purchase. Service, was en point! This is definitely a splurge restaurant and worth a visit.

It's a good area for a rest stop as in-between the drive, there's nothing but the remote great outdoors. At first, I was impressed upon arriving. The resort is not just a lodge, but serves as a gas station, gift shop, dining room and cafeteria. There's even a grocery store as well and a section for camping supplies. All this is offered among a terrific setting surrounded by the snowcapped mountains of the Canadian Rockies. I'm sure everyone's #1 complaint are the prices. I hate for money to be an issue especially when on vacation and enjoying life, but prices for everything was understandably increased. First off...gasoline. I guess if you're not desperate for fuel, definitely wait until arriving in Jasper or Lake Louise. I filled my tank ahead of time in Lake Louise so that was reassuring. The souvenirs at the gift shop were cool. But along the way in Banff and Lake Louise there were frequent chances to stock up on the usual knickknacks, so I resisted the urge to buy souvenirs. At the counter inside the gift shop there was a popcorn machine sending an intoxicating buttery smell throughout the store. I had to buy a bag and when I was told $12, I sort of did a doubletake reaction as if I were at the movies, lol. Beside the gift shop was a coffee, tea and hot chocolate station. The instructions were to purchase a cup from the checkout counter and then you had access to unlimited drinks for your visit. It was comforting having a hot drink for a chilly and overcast day. I indulged on that unlimited policy and gulped down 3 servings of hot chocolate, lol. I took my popcorn and hot chocolate and sat down inside the cafeteria. The cafeteria was deserted. And I didn't even look at what they were serving for lunch. I did notice some people walk through the cafeteria to get to the dining room for what's probably better food options. Unfortunately, there was no cell phone reception. I couldn't access Wi-Fi either and when I asked an employee about a possible Wi-Fi password, they gave me the thumbs down. Also, I considered charging my phone at the cafeteria but couldn't locate any electrical outlets beside the wall. In the end, I stepped outside to admire the views for a few moments before continuing on to Jasper. Overall, it was nice stopping here at The Crossing to take a break from the action and all the driving. I'd just maybe suggest waiting for better purchasing opportunities wherever your travels may take you along Icefields Parkway.
