I rented EXCELLENT skis from the DPH at the Alta Lodge. I couldn't have been happier. But my experience got even better when I decided to buy new ski boots. JP helped me. And help is an understatement. He spent THREE hours finding the exact right boot, measuring the flex in my ankle, looking at my feet, asking me about my skiing. THEN he made me wonderful new foot beds, warmed the Solomon boots and waited for them to mold to my feet. The next day skiing I realized I have never ever had a better boot: super strong to withstand very hard skiing and yet I had no pain whatsoever. It was simply an amazing miraculous experience. JP will soon be discovered so I recommend rushing to the Alta Lodge DPH or whichever branch he is in and quickly buying the best boots of your life. The whole experience was incredible and everyone else in the shop couldn't have been nicer either. read more

Ski boots are your most important piece of equipment. My previous pair of ski boots were Lange GX-9's (bright orange) purchased at a ski shop in Boulder, CO in 1998 from "that boot guy"... everyone in Boulder knew him as the go-to guy... That's the kind of place this place is... they take your ski boot fitting seriously. And where else to get your ski boots than at a skiers only mountain... Zo, custom fit me and was extremely helpful. He really knew what he was talking about and was genuinely interested in seeing that I got the best ski boots for me, as each persons feet are different etc.... If you are unhappy in your ski boots, your ski experience is unhappy. This is a "go-to"place for ski boots. Highly, highly recommended. Unfortunately on yelp there is no ability to give negative star reviews. Have been coming to Alta for over 30 years. When DPH opened initially the place was great. Now - complete sh*t show. I paid up for the demo high performance rental, as I am ski instructor from the east on vacation w/ the family. Skis were completely out of tune. After two days I went back to swap. As I entered and kindly asked if I could swap them out, two of the employees began to ridicule me for asking to swap my skis for a pair of Volkl's. The exact quote was "heh man, it's not the paint brush, it's probably the painter". Seriously? So a little annoyed, but not taking the bait, and trying to be nice and get out of there, as I wanted to ski, I asked, any chance you can just run them thru the grinder ? To which they responded - "oh - we don't have one. Our only grinder is at the bottom the hill. We can't send out our skis and have them tuned after they are used, otherwise they would get ground down to nothing and we would have no inventory". It's March - so you can probably get an idea of how out of tune these skis were..... with what they are charging me for 5 days they could probably buy a new pair given their pro-form wholesale discount. What a joke of a ski shop. Avoid at all costs. DO NOT PATRONIZE- go to the Alta Peruvian Shop. Great guys. Real deal, excellent equipment! read more

This year, I was able to demo skis as part of the women's ski camp sponsored by Alta Lodge. The guys at Deep Powder House were great at recommending a new pair each day or two for the changing conditions. This was my first time on powder skis. Watch out when you try to carve on a groomed run! By the last day of my vacation, I was familiar with the different feel of the powder skis, and glad that I had given them a try. read more

A nice local ski shop that's convenient if you're headed up to or coming back from Alta or Snowbird. They have everything a resort shop carries Adan their sales and service staff are very friendly. I would rate them as one of the best resort shops I've been to in Utah. Check out their end of season specials in April and May for some even better deals! read more

Bought some demo skis from them (their shop near Alta Lodge) towards the end of the 2014 season, after demoing them. When they arrived, there was an unanticipated problem with them. I was impressed that they really worked and solved the problem in a reasonable manner with minimal hassle. I contrast this with my experience a number of years back when I bought some demo skis from one of the ski shops in Snowbird (don't remember which). This sort of customer-friendly service gets 5 stars any day in my book! read more

For years I have been going to Alta and doing superb ski programs through the Alta Lodge. Several years ago I bought both skis and boots through the Deep Powder House (DPH). This is one of the few places where you can demo the ski boots that you will eventually buy. My boots (tried and bought) are amazing and over the years the DPH staff has helped make adjustments, The staff at DPH is amazing!!! read more

Brought a pair of boots in here for some help with canting / cuff alignment because I thought it would be nice to be able to go to a place and do some on-the-mountain adjustments. Bill and the higher up bootfitter...can't remember his name were pretty unhelpful and seemed perplexed and frustrated by my problem. They didn't seem to know much about canting / cuff alignment in general. They also disparaged my custom insoles which were done by a very reputable shop in SLC that gets great reviews on here, saying "I could've probably done a cleaner job on these." In general, they had a very coarse attitude about the whole thing and they left me feeling like my problem was more caused by me than anything. I have since learned that wasn't the case as I was able to bring my boots back to my original bootfitter and the cuff alignment was indeed off and adjusted in the incorrect direction. I'm sure not having bought my boots there didn't help with their attitude, but still, I coughed up $20 for a little attention. I think people and businesses show their true colors through interactions like this and they just weren't very kind or understanding about any of it, even when I was trying to be. Their retail side may be a different story, but this was just my experience with the bootfitters. read more

I have gone to the Deep Powder House up at the alta ski resort a few times over the past years and have had a very good experience, however this last time i was in SLC over the holidays i stopped by their new location the Wasatch Powder House which is near the base of the canyon. It is very nice store the newest in the area from what i was told by the owner who i got a chance to meet cant remember his name though. Anyways i was shown around the shop by him (which is probably the nicest ski shop i have ever been in) and we spoke for a couple minutes and this is where i lost all support for the powder house ski shops. i couldn't believe how rude and what a jerk the owner was to some of his employees, as being a small business owner myself listening to him make rude comments and threaten to fire his workers in front of customers and right in front of me is completely out of line and disrespectful to anyone around, especially dragging the customers into it. there's a certain line of employee to employer respect that's a given in any business and witnessing first hand the disrespect this man had for his workers was very unsettling i will no longer support this shop nor recommend it in the future. read more
