Dr Knibb is a great vet. She takes her time with you and your pet. You never feel rushed. She is very experienced and knowledgeable. I have referred family members and friends to her and everybody raves about her. It's easy getting appointments and her fees are very reasonable compared to others. The following is the review I submitted yesterday to the page for Dr. Knibb's clinic, Alamo Pet Care Clinic. I want to make sure that anyone who looks for reviews on her gets mine no matter which page they search: I had loved taking my 2 dogs and 3 cats here. The staff was very kind and I mistakenly thought that Dr. Knibb and I had a good relationship with open dialogue. She knew that I'm a retired advanced practice RN, so she didn't need to dumb things down or take time to give me long explanations.  Then at the end of last week my 15 year old Basenji took a steep decline and I was really concerned. I had to go to the office anyway on Friday to pick up prescription diets for all my animals, and while I was there I told one of the staff what was going on with my dog and asked to get some sub-Q fluids to administer to him.  I also told the staff that he was due for his allergy shot and I asked if they could draw it up to me and I could give it to him at home because I didn't want to stress him out by taking him into the office, but he was itching really badly and needed it. The girl said it shouldn't be a problem, went back and talked to Dr. Knibb, who said absolutely not, in spite of knowing that I could competently do it. But they gave me the fluids, meaning I could be trusted to stick a need in him the give him fluids to rehydrate him, but I couldn't be trusted to give him an injection of an allergy medicine that he has had multiple times with no problem. So I went home disheartened, and finally decided to text her and state my case without being angry or argumentative. So below is the text I sent her, to which she chose not to respond, as is her right:"Hi Deborah, I just have to let you know how disappointed I am that you can't trust me to give Danny a Cytopoint shot myself.   He is dying and I'm just trying to do whatever palliative care I can give, and it's horrible to have to watch him crying and scratching. I'm trying Benadryl but it's not worked that well in the past. I'm not going to stress him out by bringing him to the office, I just want him comfortable.  I've been an RN for 38 years so I know how to safely inject him.  I don't know what else to say. I at least needed to get that off my chest.  I hope he passes peacefully when that time comes."Then I called today to pick up his thyroid medication since I only had a day's supply left.  The receptionist put me on hold for a minute, then came back and told me that Dr. Knibb read what I sent her,and she was so angered by it that she wouldn't see my animals any longer. All they would do is transfer the pet's records to another veterinary office.  After feeling scolded and hurt I sat and thought for a minute and came to this conclusion:  this is hugely inconvenient at this time.  Even worse, my whole purpose in asking was defeated by her response, because now I have to stress him out and take him into a new vet to simply get his prescription refilled.  But I also have no desire to ever take another animal back to her if I have to walk on eggshells in order to be sure that my differing opinion presented calmly doesn't bruise her fragile ego and that it's impossible that I might have had a valid point of view that she doesn't agree with. I was also really put off that she didn't have the guts to tell me all of this herself, yet she was fine with letting a probably underpaid receptionist do her dirty work. To me that is the epitome of cowardice, and it also makes me think that she isn't that confident with her handling of the situation. If I had wanted to be a jackass in the situation, I was fully capable of doing that, but it's not how I do things.  So instead of acting out of anger or hurt I have to just turn the situation over to my higher power and forgive her, which I did. But I don't need to ever trust another of my beloved pets to her care ever affair.  That's the freedom I have in the situation.  But I also feel responsible for being honest and putting this out there so that I might spare some unsuspecting owner who might read my review from getting the same cruel and disrespectful treatment.  What's done in my situation is done. I just want to hopefully not have someone else repeat it. I'd like to start this review by acknowledging that I had to miss 2 vet appts in a row. The first was because I had to watch over my toddler who got sick on the day of the first appt (and I called to let them know hours in advance that I wouldn't be able to make it and needed to reschedule), and the other because I had a work call that ran over that I couldn't jump off of as it was with a client (and I called to let them know 45 minutes after my appointment time as soon as I was off the work call and apologized profusely). The receptionist, both times, was very understanding and helpful. The second time, however, she stated she'd need to check with the doctor and put me on a brief hold. She came back and told me that they were very busy and she'd need to call me later in the day. Totally understandable! I never heard back so I decided to follow up and she again told me she'd need to put me on hold and go talk to the doctor, she then came back and said they were booked the next few days and they'd call me at a later date to reschedule. Clearly, they're Dr Knibb is not interested in seeing me because I had to reschedule my first appointment and missed my second appointment. That's not actually my issue here (although, most doctors/vets simply charge a cancellation or no show fee in these instances, which I would have been more than happy to pay). My issue is the lack of maturity and directness in simply stating that instead of continuing to to push me off, when they clearly have no intention of scheduling us at a later date. I was weary taking our sweet pup to Dr Knibb due to some of the prior yelp reviews regarding her interpersonal and communication skills, and this just confirmed that we are probably not the right fit for each other! read more

I am disgusted by the level of care and lack of compassion and follow through. My son was told our dog had cancer and she referred us to an oncologist 2 hours away despite two others within a mile of our home. She charged for x-rays and interpretation and refused to give us copies to bring to the consult. It took three phone calls to her office and one excuse after another about why she would not call me back to give me even a verbal report and stated that a biopsy would 'spread' the cancer which is not medically sound. I would never go back there again. read more

We recently moved from Walnut Creek to Alamo and I was looking for a new vet for my two English Bulldogs. I found Dr. Knibb on Yelp and based on the reviews, decided to take one of my Bulldogs to her for an ear infection. Dr. Knibb was pleasant and we talked for awhile before she had my Bully taken back to be examined. She had recommended Claro (an antibiotic that can be applied to the ear and left for 30 days). He was brought back after the exam and the antibiotic was administered. At check-out time, I noticed they had done a culture in-house and charged me although they had not told me beforehand they were going to be doing that. I expected to have been consulted first before any treatment was done. Overall, the visit was okay, although she also took some time during our meeting to suggest the prior treatments my other vet had provided may not have been effective and there were newer treatments available. So far, okay. My issue with this practice arose when I noticed my Bully was starting to build up ear wax and his infection appeared to be rearing up again after a few days. When the office called to check on my Bully, I noted my concern and asked to speak with Dr. Knibb. The person I was speaking with said Dr. Knibb would be happy to speak with me if I brought my dog in for an exam (at a charge of about $60+). I had just spent about $200+. I asked again for Dr. to call me to answer a couple questions and the person said she wouldn't call. I complained saying it was odd that all the other vets I have been to over the years would call if I had questions about the treatment but she wouldn't, especially for a new patient. To be fair, I don't know if the person I spoke with ever talked to Dr. Knibb or not. I know that I never got a call from Dr. Knibb or even one of the vet technicians. Complete lack of any sense of customer service. Needless to say, I will not be going there again. read more

This review is my observation of this vet in regards to my daughters experience here with her cat. Her cat was having trouble breathing in the middle of the night so she took him to emergency in Concord(they live in Concord) They did a great job diagnosing through cardiologist that her cat was in heart failure. They treated cat, prescribed med and said follow up with bloodwork with your primary care vet. She contacted Deb via text and the unbelievable, unprofessional texts which followed from her were shocking.For example She actually asked how much did that cost her. My daughter still believing that Deb cares about her cat kept trying to get him in for blood work. After weeks of being completely blown off she had to go back to the concord vet and explain that she was dumped by her vet because she had gone to Them. Concord clinic got her in but it was 2 weeks overdue because again my daughter really believed that Deb was going to call after she reviews the file. So if this could be zero stars it would be. read more

I went here to get my dog's feet trimmed and his nails cut. It wasn't the doctor that did it. It was a man--A groomer. He took my dog into the back and was gone for quite a while. During the time my dog was absent, I heard another dog barking and I heard the man screaming at him to shut up. When my dog was returned to me, the trim was pretty good, but the man treated my dog roughly when he picked up his paws to show me what he had done. Not once did he engage in petting the dog or talking in a friendly manner to him. I could tell that he was not a dog lover. My dog does tend to be nervous; however, he was clearly shaken up when he was returned to me and I ended up having to give him a tranquilizer. For the rest of the day he clung to my side. I cant believe I never thought of Yelping Dr. Knibb! I have been seeing her for close to 20 years and she is outstanding! She has always given top notch care to all of my many cats and dogs over the years and I cant thank her and her team enough for services. She is so knowledgeable on breeds ,extremely caring, and is a great technician. She is the best Veterinarian I have ever had. read more

She is very compassionate and easy to talk to , loves animals , and always will make time for me and my dogs if needed in a pinch ! I can't say enough about her ! On Saturday, September 29th my miniature dachshund was attacked by a big dog at the park. At 11:30 A.M. we arrived at her veterinary in Alamo and she took us right in. The Staff and doctor were very professional and took good care of my little dog. Twenty-one stitches and two bottles of medicine later we were out the door. Thank you so much Dr. Knibb. read more

My beloved husky Amber finally past with dignity, love and respect. Dr. Knibb helped keep Amber comfortable until that dreaded day came that we had to decide to end her suffering. Dr. Knibb gave us plenty of time to say our good byes and when the Dr. was finished she gave us plenty of time to stay with Amber, cry and pray to God he loves her as much as we did. Dr. Knibb gave us a quiet space to mourn and pay out last respects.The whole staff was nothing but kind compassionate and understanding. of my emotional needs at the time. Losing Amber is the first close family member I have lost in my 39 years of life. Dr. Knibb gave me the continued support that really made an extremely difficult time much more bearable. Dr. Knibb is a caring and very knowledgeable vet who has great empathy for her clients and how important our pets are to us. We came to Dr. Knibb with brand new puppies who were very sick with parvo and another virus. Thanks to Dr. Knibb, she helped us heal the puppies and have a full recovery. We were worried about the expense of treating pups but Dr. Knibb helped us balance home care with visits to get hydrated. I know many people start a review by stating how much they dislike writing reviews,or seldom write them. Well, that is actually the truth . This is the first review of a vet I have ever done and I had many pets in my life , and many vets. Dr. Knibb in Alamo is honestly the BEST vet I honestly have ever had. The care she and her vet technicians and receptionists show is phenomenal. I have made last minute calls to see her and they always made a time for me to come in that same day. I lost my beautiful pet today they conforted me in my grief . I have used Dr. Knibb as my vet for over 4 years now and I have recommended her to family and friends. We all love our pets and it is such a blessing to find a very good vet with an EXCELLENT bed side manner , and most importantly a very caring doctor. I often joke and say , I wish more General Practitioners were like this Dr.:-) The comfort of having such a fine Vet is a huge relief especially when your pet is very sick. We're new to the area, and our old barn kitty was not doing well. After reading the reviews here on Yelp, I called to see if we could bring her in. They were able to see us on the same day, and Dr. Knibb greeted us at the front desk (wow!). All of her staff were friendly and courteous. Unfortunately the prognosis for our kitty wasn't good, but after talking with her a bit, I'm thrilled to have found a great vet for our two dogs (and eventually our horse when we bring him down). And my favorite part....Dr. Knibb is open to incorporating some holistic/homeopathic treatments in conjunction with traditional medicine. What a powerful combo that is. We feel very lucky to have found a great vet on the first try, especially one open to the holistic side of medicine! Love, love, love it! read more

If you are looking for the the best place to take your animals, look no further. This clinic, the whole staff included, saved my new dogs front leg and quite frankly, her life. My girlfriend brought a dog home from school, that her teacher had found being severely abused. Apparently the dog had been swung around by her tail, her leg crushed, and thrown from a balcony by some terror children. Her teacher didn't know what to do so my girlfriend took action and went straight to one of the only emergency vet clinics, which if given another opportunity Id rather let my dog suffer in pain then take her to Encina (because going there would be the same end result except with our wallets suffered just as much... but this is for another review) Long story short we had decided to amputate this dogs leg since thats all we could afford. The owner at Alamo Plaza Pet Care Clinic, who is an angel, gave us the idea to start a fund raiser online to save her leg. The support we got from the community was amazing and Dr. Knibb was relentless about calling surgeons and explaining our story to try to get them to come down on their price. They did all the could and donated whatever they were able to given the circumstances. They are saviors. Go figure... a veterinarian that cares about animals. We cant thank her enough! read more

Well, changed vets when I had to get my dog neutered, and made a couple calls after hearing what my regular vet would charge. Dr. Knibb was REASONABLE and I am happy, even if my dog is not happy. :) Brought in a cat with a bad eye - wheeping - and was promptly asked if we had fed the cat tuna or salmon in the last day or two - which we had. Never heard of a cat being allergic to fish, but apparently it is common. I would recommend her services. read more

Dr. Knibb is FABULOUS! Hands down the best vet we have ever worked with. She is knowledgable, honest, fair, and down to earth. I have two dogs, a little Beagle and a new Great Dane puppy. My little beagle has always been healthy but unfortunately our Dane puppy (Charley) has been a bit sick from the get-go. He suffers from a chronic skin condition which manifests as a recurring Staph infection (he develops pustules all over his face/neck and scaly patches & hair loss) and weak immune system. It took a while to figure out what was going on with poor little Charley but Dr. Knibb has been so patient, thorough and kind. She is genuinely concerned about our animals and very knowledgable about pet dermatology issues. We have pretty much had to bring Charley in on an almost weekly basis as he struggles to get better. Dr. Knibb has been great, doesn't rush us through appointment & takes time to answer all my questions. Her office follows up with his treatment outcomes and she never tries to needlessly drive up our bills as many vets do. I always feel she is more than fair with us. I trust her completely and its the first time I've ever been able to say that about any veterinarian. Can't recommend her enough. read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Deborah! I have a formerly stray cat who becomes a PUMA when caged or taken out of my house. The first vet we saw had to place the entire carrier in gas to put her completely out before opening the cage door to treat her; the second vet we saw was able to inject her with tranquilizers through the bars of the carrier to treat the cat. Dr. Deborah walked up, said hello to the cat, opened the door and finished the uptake paperwork with my cat on her shoulder. My cat doesn't even do that with ME! She treated her in every invasive way one can imagine with no tranquilizers at all (bathing, shaving belly/privates, on and on). Jezebel is now completely calm about going to the vet after meeting Dr. Deborah. Dr. Deborah is truly gifted. read more

We had changed vets after plaza pet disbanded. Our dog had an autoimmune disease and lost his toenails. New vet had no solutions We finally took our dog to Dr. Knibb. She is phenomenal. Put him on prednisone to shock his system. He is now doing fantastic. No more pain, no more bleeding toes. He is the happiest dog around. Dr Knibb is so incredibly knowledgeable and so patient with her approach to pets. Never tries to impose her approach. Just tells you what she has seen work in the past. Would recommend her to everyone. So reasonable and so compassionate. read more

Dr. Knibb and her staff are wonderful! We have gone to Dr. Knibb for all of our pets for a number of years. She is very helpful, knowledgeable, and professional and always there when you need her. She has always gone above and beyond for our pets, even giving up a 4th of July weekend to sit by my dog that had just had surgery. Not to mention she saved my dogs life when another vet screwed up. And all of this before she was our permanent vet. You cannot find a better vet for your pet. She even takes the time to get to know the people. If I could give her more stars I would. I needed to get my cat in right away to treat what I suspected was an infection. The receptionist was courteous and accommodating. When I met Dr. Knibb, I immediately felt confident and comfortable with her expertise and kind "bedside manner". My cat seemed so at ease with her too, which was awesome. Dr. Knibb took great care and explained to me what was going on so I have a better understanding of how to try and avoid further problems. She is wonderful and by the way, her assistant the day I was there, was also great. I'm so glad that I found Dr. Knibb and can't recommend her enough. read more

Terrible experience!!! Dr. Knibb HAD been our vet for over 8 years when I called for an urgent appointment. The person on the phone thought I wanted a regular appointment so when I asked if I could talk to Dr. Knibb, or come in immediately, she seemed rattled so I offered to take my dog to to the nearby vet hospital but she replied "just come in". When I arrived I was treated kindly by everyone but Dr. Knibb. She walked into the exam room agitated and annoyed, telling me that they have been calling about his shots... She was so rude and argumentative. Without even examining my dog in distress, she told me that he must have contracted kennel cough from the vet specialist we see for his skin issues! I showed her the antibiotic the vet specialist prescribed and she acted annoyed that we take him to a skin specialist!!! Jesus, my dog is in distress! She was ignoring him and having it out with me! It's like she forgot that we have been with her for years and she had consulted with us and we have used the specialists and her firm together. Our dogs are so well taken care of and we thought we had the right team. It was crazy! So finally, my dog is nervous and shaking on the table and she's not attending to him, all she wants to do is hassle me or scold me or exorcise some strange need to be rude... i scooped up my dog and took him to another vet who immediately identified that he had a treat logged in his throat! Thank God I took him somewhere else! I will never return to Dr Knibb. I will tell all of my pet-loving friends about this experience. So sad for all of the nice people that work for her. Our little Shitzu ate a rawhide bone (maybe whole) and spent New Year's Eve vomiting all night long. She stopped eating and drinking, peeing and pooping, and was very lethargic. I called Dr. Knibb's office on 1/2 and they offered to see her right away. X-rays showed her bowels were all bunched up and nothing was moving through her. They administered hydration, and drugs to "move things along". I picked her up at 4PM and brought her home to wait and see how she was responding to their treatment. She did poop out the last of the rawhide bone and is back to her old self running around with her brother. Dr. Knibb has taken care of these puppies since day one. We are always grateful for her expertise, kind and caring manner. Her office manager, O'Ryan, is also a jewel; always remembering who we are and promptly taking care of us. We've been very happy with the skill and compassion Deb has for the care of our Brittanys. One of them had a serious breathing problem recently and she met me in the parking lot and carried my dog into the clinic herself. Thankfully, with some antibiotics my dog is back to normal, but that was very frightening. She has just moved to a new location in the Plaza behind the Wolf Camera. read more
