Southern Roots had great reviews and they didn't disappoint. I had my hair colored by Amy and she was wonderful! She really knows her stuff and I felt really comfortable trusting her with my hair. I've been to many salons in the past where my hair did not come out the way I wanted (cut or colored). I was seriously SO surprised at the wonderful work Amy did. I deserve to be refunded, period. - This was my first visit to Southern Roots, and while I had high hopes based on the stylist's reviews, my experience unfortunately didn't go as expected. When I left the appointment, my hair had been curled, which can easily mask issues with color or placement. It wasn't until I straightened it two days later that I saw the actual results, and it was clear that the outcome didn't match the inspo photos I shared or the conversation we had beforehand. I reached out right away with photos, and while the stylist responded kindly and offered to fix it, I ultimately decided I wasn't comfortable with another appointment. I was then told the salon doesn't offer refunds, and instead, the owner, who I did not book with would be the one to do the correction. As a first-time client, this doesn't sit well with me. I don't feel comfortable going back, and I don't believe I should have to. I am not asking for anything beyond a fair resolution, and a refund would allow me to go elsewhere and have the issue addressed by someone of my choosing. Out of respect, I won't name the stylist - I don't believe this policy is hers, and I know she's done great work for many others. But I do think the salon's refund policy and how this situation was handled deserve to be shared. I'm including photos (the inspo pictures and my result) so others can make their own judgment. I always prefer to handle these things privately, but I also believe in transparency, especially when your first experience as a client leaves you feeling dismissed.

I wanted it trimmed all the way around to my collar bone, NO A-line. He left the underside an inch longer than the top layer on the sides, left side an inch shorter than the right. A hole in the top layer in the back a inch wide. When he finished trying to fix it, my hair was so jagged and short I couldn't put it around a two inch curling iron. It's been over two months, it will take another 3 months to get it back to where I wanted it. It will still be multiple layers. Brittany saw my hair & that I was upset, I wasn't charged & she offered to fix it if I came back. There is no way this was a one off for this guy. The manager should have realized he didn't know what he was doing & never allowed him to cut anyone's hair. He said he had been doing this for 21 years. Several stylists were sitting around talking when I came in, not busy, when I.left most were busy, I had an appointment but would have waited if I had of known how badly this would turn out. The manager and other stylists had to have been aware of his lack of ability. I have a regular stylist in Kinston, Fantastic Sam's, but it was my birthday, she was on vacation, I wanted my hair cut for the party, sorry I did. I've been to the Goldsboro location several times with no issues, always happy, never again!

Asked for the picture attached. Got something completely different. Asked to have it fixed. They agreed. But then they cancelled my appointment to fix it and told me never to come back because they saw my 1-star review. I physically went and spoke to the owner, who raised his voice and belittled me for being in the military and not making enough money to pay another $300 to get it fixed. I eventually gave in and said I would delete the review so they'd fix it. It was fixed, but my hair felt dead, like dry hay. I had very healthy hair before. I would give this a 4.5 star rating for the following reasons: Isabelle was my stylist and instantly I recognized she knew what she was doing. She didn't have to explain everything she was doing and she didn't keep talking about her skills, she simply went to work. We looked at magazines to get a color scheme, and I explained what bothered me about my last haircut- and she handled the rest. I always am eager to see if a stylist can blow dry my hair smooth and straight without the assistance of a flat iron- which can be tricky with my wacky hair texture- and Isabelle delivered. Near the end, her next client showed up and yet she didn't rush through our appointment. The woman waiting (who had very long, thick curly hair) even said, "Take your time. I'd rather wait for her than let anyone else touch my hair" which was comforting. I know a hair cut can be hit or miss depending on what you're looking for and how well a stylist can execute the look. While my haircut isn't ideal (mostly due to the fact that my previous hair cut really botched my hair), I can tell the skill set is there for future cuts and colors. And price wise, I thought it was very reasonable. I got a full-head of highlights and lowlights, toner, cut and style and it came to 170.00. I've paid more than that in JAX for partial highlights and a cut. I know it's still a lot of money, but in the end, a good haircut can be worth every penny. Also, I wanted to say I went to their location at 413 Western Blvd,. I'm not sure if they moved or have two locations, but I cannot comment on the Country Club address location.
