Seagulls and pelicans patiently waiting for boats to dock trying to make a catch then all of a sudden it pulls in. One of the nicest boats I've ever been on in my life. Heading out with pure power and top of the line equipment 15 minutes in already had dinner swimming our way. A few stops and quick grabs was a blast as we got further out starting seeing fish I've only ever seen pictures of. 6 hours wasn't enough but ideal for first timers id imagine. Next trip 12 or more no questions. I was left wanting one more catch just one more. From beginning to end was hands down 5 star treatment. You're not dealing with a business like fishing charter the Captains wife kept me informed on everything answered every time I called with new questions even on a Sunday spending time with family. Just so happened to be horrible weather coming on the day of our trip and I called and asked last minute if we could change and without hesitation they made adjustments even as busy as they were. That showed me right then and there I found the best in the business that was willing to accommodate me for the best experience ever. I highly recommend Backlash. Deck hand was all in and very knowledgeable and kept the trip fun and took care of everything. Even made a delicious snack while we fished. "Water 2 Gut" fish is what I called. Fish probably still had a heart beat while we were eating the rest of em. Never had fresh fish like that. Cant wait to go again. Thanks Again! Backlash

Done Deal--More Like Raw Deal…read more Do not waste your money on this charter. There are thousands of fishing options in Destin--choose another one. This company advertises mahi-mahi fishing, and August is one of the best times of year to target mahi. We specifically requested trolling, expecting at least an honest attempt at mahi or other pelagic fish. Instead, Captain Rusty ignored our request and made us bottom fish. If we had wanted a bottom-fishing trip, we could have booked a party boat for one-third of the price. The captain's attitude made it worse. My 80-year-old father-in-law politely said the radio was a little loud, so we asked for it to be turned down slightly. Captain Rusty responded by turning it off completely. My father-in-law has always dreamed of being a boat captain and simply wanted to sit up top and enjoy the experience. When we asked for a little more airflow, Rusty's response was, "I'd rather be hot." That comment perfectly captures his attitude toward his paying customers. Captain Rusty and the deckhands also smoked constantly around my asthmatic wife and father-in-law. They were unpersonable, dismissive and acted as if our presence was an inconvenience. After five hours, we had maybe three snapper to show for it. Of course, no charter can guarantee fish--but this wasn't simply bad luck. They advertised one type of fishing, ignored what we requested, delivered a much cheaper bottom-fishing experience and showed virtually no interest in making the trip enjoyable. This was an extremely expensive boat ride with a rude captain. Take your money elsewhere.

The crew was great with the kids. They were able to drop lines and reel the fish in themselves. (Ages 8-12). We caught vermillion snapper (mingo), trigger fish, and white grunt "ruby lips". Good size fish to catch for the youngsters. After the crew cleaned the fish we walked down to Harry T's for a hook and cook deal. My only complaint would be that I would prefer the crew not smoke around the kids.

It was a bit windy 10-15 mph which made getting offshore a challenge, but not too difficult with just 2 people, more would have been challenging and very wet. We first went to a spot that Chip thought we might be able to get into some red grouper. We pulled in a few quickly but they were unfortunately just an inch too small. While there we started catching "Mingo" (vermillion snapper) and the limits are quite high. We caught probably 15 and were able to keep 9, in addition to that we caught quite a few small trigger fish, and a few rubies that we needed to throw back. After that slowed down we moved spots and tried to catch some amber jacks, but they just weren't biting. On the trip we saw probably 20 dolphins. Overall it was a great trip, communication was good and we enjoyed Captain Jack. He made sure my son had a great time and kept the bait coming when we missed fish. He was instructional and my son learned a lot and had a great time. Would have loved to have gotten into fish that give a good fight... but that's fishing. I'd definitely recommend .
