My husband has been a patient admitted here three times in three months because they kept discharging him before he was healthy enough to go home. This hospital failed him on so many levels. They failed to set up aftercare (doctors' appointments/referrals, imaging, continuing medications) properly, which meant he waited too long for care, went without proper medication treatments, and ended up with worsening diagnoses each time. He now has permanent damage to the organ affected. We were assured by a doctor that he would be sent home with proper pain control and that was also another failure on their part. They have some good nurses and techs. However, we experienced total negligence, belittling, and rudeness from some of their RNs. I am a nurse myself and had I not fought for his discharge orders, this hospital would have sent him home yet again, with improper and lacking aftercare. I honestly worry about any patient put in their care now. I will make sure none of my loved ones ever come here, which is sad because my mother worked here for 20 years and I've been a lifelong Deaconess client. Please look at their reviews, sadly, we are not the only family this hospital has neglected or failed. read more

This facility needs to be shut down and investigated and we mean, investigated, very seriously. I wouldn't even give it a star but you have to, to post. This "place" is the absolute worst, most unprofessionally, unethically run, "place" we have ever encountered and never ever will again. Since our experience, we've heard numerous other horror stories from others that have experienced horrific care (?) in this "place". We literally and physically REMOVED my loved one from here and brought them to a REAL hospital where in 5 days, (and then was able to go home!) they had everything turned around in the right direction and did what this "place" could not not do in over 3 1/2 weeks...3 1/2 weeks!!! They suck off the MEDICARE is what they do and keep the patient drugged to not know anything then diagnose as, confused, etc, etc. The tie down stories are real when you read of others experiencing the same treatment. I witnessed it with my own eyes. They give anti-psychotic meds, sedatives and pain killers, because they don't know how nor do they care how, to properly treat the patients. They administer these drugs so they don't have to deal with them...just knock them out and keep the patient drugged up! Mine would literally call me screaming, "Get me out of here, NOW! They're just keeping me drugged!" IT'S ALL ABOUT SUCKING OFF THE MEDICARE AND THE INSURANCES. A worker even mentioned that! I am telling you...IT IS BEYOND YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE TO BRING AND LEAVE ANYONE HERE...PERIOD! I cannot emphasize the seriousness of this enough. What I have said is not enough! Great place I have had three major surgeries, and everyone was great. Staff and Doctors gave supper service.

I was on 2nd floor overflow from ED admitted for numerous Health issues taking me down. A patient care tech told me "hospitals are for chilling between tests not healing" (keep reading and she tried justifying her actions.) I being an aide for longer than I'd like to put here I felt the environment was made hostile and when I was woke up out of a dead sleep with pain meds from there loud chats at the nurses desk and call lights going off for ten mins. I was trained to answer these lights promptly in my entire career. I pulled back that curtain them knowing I was an aide for over two decades jerked that curtain back they scattered like bugs. That action alone screams guilty. That is also patients neglect. They stayed quiet until 530a when they were getting louder than the call lights again! This time i said louder then them your being loud again. Its funny they make visitors leave at 8p. Why, they were louder than my 2yr grandson. I do have videos of them walking in my room not saying anything to me at ALL do what they need to with my iv's and out no hey no hi f u or anything. I did contact the state about this and I also sent my videos. They have professionalism issues and egos bigger than there pay checks. Lets see how tight that ship gets when state shows up. Just gotta know who to complain to I suggest everyone who has issues contact the IDOH (Indiana Department Of Health) they would love to hear about this place and any issues you have with staff and the job they are suppose to do. Just an fyi to non medical people please complain to the right people and yelp isn't it. The IDOH makes every soul on payroll nervous to a degree just gotta know where to poke the giant and I think more people need to be informed who to complain to. They have a site to turn in complaints and they do have to investigate each complaint. Your welcome. I may not be able to stand up to an entire unit but enough complaints to the right people might change this place. I had sepsis and signed out AMA. I have been unhappy with by this place once went in for physical therapy the assistant nurse on duty flirted with a doctor the whole hour in another room and handed me a piece of paper and I was charged with the session and all I got was a piece of paper. Other time doctor billed full rate for 35 seconds saying he could not help me and essentially get the F out of his office to his assistant said what the hell is he still doing here 1 minute after he left room and came back in ! The third time was decent. This is over many years so two out of three times was bad. If any of the early two incidents happen again I would complain luckily I was dumb and stupid when younger. Pain Clinic... The only thing they will give you is ibuprofen (Celebrex) and shots in your back. I am past the point to where that won't do me any good. Take my advice, move to Illinois and get a medical marijuana card so you can grow your own! You cannot over-dose on cannabis!! read more

If you have a panic attack do not go here. They treated me like some druggie or a stupid kid. They tied me down and gave me 3 shots of mystery juice (Did not tell me what it was even in the little printout; we had to call my friend's mom to get an idea days later to get an idea of what they gave me) They didn't even take me insurance card, they asked for it, I told them I had it but I was so panicked that I couldn't move, they said they'll get it later and never did. I had 2 friends with me who were the only things keeping me calm enough to willingly get tied down and then they kicked them out. One of my friends tried to warn the doctor that I had a fear of needles in case I freaked out and said, "It's gonna happen anyway,". There were 2 nurses who were kind, at least on the surface level. The rest acted like I wasn't a person who needed help but a job to get done with. I was tied to the bed for 3-4 hours, I can't lay down in my own bed without thinking about it. Whatever they gave me knocked me out for over 30 hours; I could barely eat for 2 days. Do not come here for mental health reasons at least. read more

Yesterday, I was in northern Kentucky when I got horrible news while at work. My mom called to let me know that my grandpa had fallen ill and was rushed to the hospital. As soon as she said the words, I was in the car, ready for my 5 hour commute to western Kentucky. Now here I am at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. And let me tell you, if you care about your own health or the health of your loved ones, do NOT bring them to this hospital. We have now gone 12+ hours without an update concerning my grandfathers' condition in the ICU. We know he isn't doing well, we know his salt is low, and there are masses in his lungs. That's it. We don't know why, what our next steps are, or what the hell the masses on his body are. Which is highly concerning & nobody seems to care. All we have heard is "we're busy. we're at capacity." No compassion, no concern. My heart and my stomach are in knots. Now, if that isn't bad enough, it gets worse. My grandpa was able to drink his first cup of water for a long while, and asked me to get him a refill. I hopped up, stepped out of my room and went to the water and ice machine. It's automatic, just like everything else these days, and I couldn't figure out how to get the ice to come out. So, I was looking all over when I noticed mold just inside the dispenser. Immediately my heart dropped, so I approached the nurse and asked where I could get clean water and brought the mold to her attention. She blatantly disrespected me with her atrocious facial expressions and says "It's water buildup. We use it all the time." At this point, I am stunned by the complete lack of bedside manner shown by the caregiver of some of the sickest people in the hospital. I replied "I work in a restaurant and I know if our ice or water machine looked like this we would have the health department on us right away." To which she responded. "Lobby. water's in the lobby." Okay great. Now we're getting somewhere. I'm downstairs getting fresh water, go to head back up, and got lost. I could not get anyone to explain *clearly* how to get back on track until FINALLY a really nice lady pushing a wheelchair WALKED me to my destination. I wish I knew her name; she was the nicest person here. ANYWAY, I got water to my grandpa but could not shake my disgust with what I'd seen. So, I grabbed a napkin and wiped the lip of the water machine and it was BLACK and SLIMEY and COVERED in mold. Ugh wait till you see the pictures I'll post with this review. (They're screenshots from the video I took so they're not awesome quality but Yelp doesn't allow you to post videos.) I went back to the nurse who rudely told me that it was water buildup (never getting up to check it out herself or even looking me in the eyes while speaking to me) and asked "Is this your definition of water buildup?" When I walked up I realize she was putting in a work order to have someone clean it out. Man, I bet she wish she had cleaned it before I came back up and saw the damage myself. She looked up at me and said "I have real patients I need to get to." .... What? Excuse me? My grandpa IS a REAL patient. Someone I love with all of my heart. Someone sick and scared. I'm ONLY concerned for him. I STILL cannot believe the way Sarah (the awful nurse) spoke to me. As if I was a thorn in her side or dirt under her shoe. This is the ICU. Where people who are in critical condition go. They should be safe and protected. I watched them continue to bring that water to all the patients, a pregnant lady, and drink it themselves. So sad that they could potentially be endangering these people and wouldn't even bother to go see for themselves until I asked to speak to someone in charge. They finally put an Out-Of-Order sign on the machine. No action was taken to speak to these nurses who looked at me like I'm an idiot, and it took them an hour and a half to get my grandpa a warm bottle of water. Just SAD. Not to mention all the smack talk going on outside our room. Um... curtains are not soundproof. Shortly after, we still have not seen a doctor, and the nurse walked in and said he's going to be discharged. Huh? What about the lumps? What about the masses in his lungs? What were his test results? Why haven't we seen a doctor? These people are going to send my grandpa out knowing he is unwell, just because they need bed space and I had the audacity to call them out for the slime in their water. The way you treat a patient should NOT depend on how much you like them or their family. Highly disappointed. Don't come here. If I could leave zero stars, I would. read more

And just because she did not what home or someone work her. I live her .I do all those things for her . they discharge They sent home. they could help get bath .the food was out a trash can. cold and hard biscuit. the doctor Was no help on 5200 . he home know back brace on the disc be fix .a waste on money. I work their this is so wrong. My son had his first seizures on May 19, 2018. Seeing him suffer was a horrible experience that I do not wish on anyone else. Our local hospital did not have the extensive Neurological services needed to take care of him. He was transported to Deaconess. While there every nurse, doctor, janitor treated him and us with total kindness and respect. My family highly recommends this hospital. The only thing that my son did not appreciate was the french fries (smiley fries), besides that everything was excellent. read more

Oh, so many things about this place. In the past two plus months since her stroke, my mother has been at this hospital four different times, and the whole place is hit or miss. There are some very helpful and caring staff members, but the overall experience left us frustrated. The biggest issue is that there is a lack of communication between staff members, from staff to families, and between their main location and another facility in town under their umbrella. Honestly, if you are seriously ill and have the ability, go to Louisville, Indy, Nashville, or St Louis for treatment. And if you're non-verbal for any reason, you'd better hope that you have family members that can advocate for you, because you're doomed if you can't yell and scream for attention. I can't say these issues are necessarily a new development, because the place nearly cost me a hand when I was a toddler, due to sheer incompetence. read more

Taken in the ER quickly, no wait. Doctors and nurses were all very friendly. Would recommend if you are in the area and need an ER.

My mother had to stay at this hospital due to falling and hurting her back. She stayed on the 5th floor and while I was talking to her on phone she said she paged for assistance to go to bathroom since she could not walk on her own and it took someone at least 20 minutes to respond. By then it was too late and she wet on herself. Personally, this does not sound like quality care to me. If you need to stay at Deaconess, I would recommend the one on the east side of town. Based on another review, it appears this 5th floor has a real issue taking care of patients. read more

Took girlfriend to E.R. because of a seizure. They recognized she was dehydrated but didn't do anything about it. Shoved her in a tiny dark room with each other room down the hall having cops escort countless detainees the entire time we were there. Not to mention the 3 police officers posted at the entrance. Shady place. Doctor came back with results and was very brief and uninformative. He almost seemed either too drunk too care or had worked far too many hours because he was completely out of cares to give. Probably because every felon in Indiana was in there yelling and making a scene. 0/10 would not go to this hospital even if I was bleeding out. Dirty, cramped, and unprofessional. read more

Nice facility, seems like they're always remodeling at least one department when visiting. Modern decor in some rooms while others are outdated. Most of the staff are pleasant, the only problems i've had were from the short manly boss nurses with straight hair and no make up. I pray they find God and bare some fruit. The hospital food was pretty good with several choices. The emplyee cafeteria is a little hard to find in the basement but worth the visit during lunch. Science building has rooms available for people out of town at a reduced rate. Thanks for making my stay memorable. read more

I wouldn't even give this hospital one star if I didn't have to. My great grandmother has been on the fifth floor since this past Thursday, and it has been nothing but horrible. I'm pretty sure they're trying to kill her. It takes them two or more hours to give her pain medicine, they took her catheter out and let her go without peeing for over 24 hour. She hasn't pooped since she's been thee and its caused her small intestines to shut down and she's swollen like she's pregnant with twins. She had hip surgery Wed. and they have yet to get her up and walk her. They send one person in at a time to move her and she's 88, so they say they can't do it alone and never come back. If you want to recover and heal, you could do better for yourself staying home. I would never recommend anyone go there, and I will not let another family member be transferred there. read more
