We had a terrific lunch at De Tuin en route to a visit to Erasmus University. They seated our large group of about 25 in the back of the restaurant in what looked like a big sunroom. There were wonderful floor to ceiling windows that enveloped about two thirds of the room giving us a gorgeous view of the lake in the back. The atmosphere was just brilliant. As for the food and service, both were equally superb. One of my classmates and I shared a goat cheese salad, which came with onions, tomatoes, walnuts, pine nuts, bacon, honey, and walnut dressing. We got it without the bacon. It was very tasty and the honey with walnut dressing mix was a total hit. I also had a crispy focaccia sandwich with tomato, mozzarella and pesto oil. It was a little different being an open sandwich, so I had to eat it with a fork and a knife, but other than the "properness" which was a little strange for me, I absolutely loved the taste. There was a lot of freshness and well seasoning of ingredients, so finishing the meal despite its large size, was not a problem. If you're in Rotterdam, this is a gem of a restaurant to visit! read more
