We visited De Rosier, a Belgian restaurant in Vught, last Friday evening before seeing the comedy duo Droog Brood at the local theater. De Rosier advertises as a Belgian Tapas Restaurant. I would give them 2.5 stars instead of 3, but that's not an option on Yelp, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Our main problems were with service, and the lack of sides (where were the vegetables?) in entrees.
Menu:
- No tapas menu in sight. We're not sure why they advertise themselves as such, they seemed to have no tapas on Friday, just a regular menu of appetizers and entrees.
- A combination of Belgian and Dutch fare. You'll find classics like garnalenkroketjes and kaaskroketjes, Belgian stew, venison ragout in pastry, mussels, and rabbit
Atmosphere:
- Very comfortable, inviting interior with Belgian themed decor. Looks like a 'brown cafe' but a little more spacious. Tables are set in such a way that you have sufficient privacy
Food:
- Good, everyone especially enjoyed the kroketten which were hot, flavorful, savory and creamy. The various meat dishes we ordered were well prepared. The only thing lacking was side dishes. Why was my sate served with four piece of krupuk, but no other carb, and no vegetables of any kind? I saw no vegetables anywhere else on the table either.
Service:
- Very slow and inattentive. We found it very difficult to get the attention of waitresses, despite being in the middle of the restaurant, without waving our hands and shouting at them, which I find rather unpleasant. We should not be forced to do that just to get our check. Waitresses clearly intentionally avoided our eyes when we were looking at them trying to get their attention, even though there was PLENTY of waitstaff for a restaurant this small. In the end, this is very much to their own detriment. We had only one drink the entire evening, and no dessert. We would've gladly had multiple drinks AND dessert, except our two hours before the theater performance we were seeing were over before we got the dessert menu, so we had to get the check instead. They're visibly losing revenue because of their bad waitstaff. read more
