They have a place to work if need be, and a variety of sleeping option. I stayed in the mini loft with a friend. Very comfortable and clean. The prices are extremely reasonable, I think I paid about €20/ night. My friend and I had such a great stay that we actually re-routed our trip back to Rotterdam for another night. Breakfast was simple, but high quality and they also rent bikes for a very reasonable rate. The only downside (which was only half a bad) was that at night I discovered have some very tasty, and slightly expensive, deserts for sale. That said, I only regret that part because of my abnormally high cravings for food during my stay at King Kong.

To start with they charge "tourist tax regardless of where you're from or if you're in Rotterdam for work like I was. The photos are misleading, the rooms are sparse, outdated, uncomfortable with paper-thin windows that let all the noise in from the street. I know it's a hostel but in an area with a lot of nightlife, PLEASE get some better soundproofing. I never slept despite having earplugs in all night every night. It's made worse by a total lack of information and rules being enforced. Guests were bringing people in from the street at all hours to just fuck around and be loud throughout the building, and several of my roommates were on their phones through the night, and staff refused or ignored any attempts to get a quieter room or tell them to stfu. Cleanliness was awful, the showers look like something out of the gulag, and the fellow travellers, even for a cheap hostel, were so gross - one dude literally scratched his ass in the bed next to me, sniffed it, then wiped the brown on his sheet, and rolled over. WTF?! Seriously hoping for a refund on booking 26031 but I doubt they will acknowledge any negative feedback let alone fix it. Didn't try much of the food. It looked fine from what I saw others have but I had my own stuff.

The hostel is near the Erasmus bridge so walking to city center will take about 10 minutes, which isn't bad. It's easy to find and has a lot of surrounding restaurants nearby as well as the supermarket. There's a tram/metro stop just outside the hostel on the same block so you can get there easily. This is a VERY social hostel with a bar in the common area and a variety of activities planned daily, which we LOVE because it's one of the reasons we stay at hostels! The hubby and I had had a private room on the 3rd floor called the "Love Room" by coincidence. There are plenty of restrooms and showers (some private some shared) on each floor and we never had any issues finding an open shower/toilet even though the hostel was always packed with travelers! We had the opportunity to participate in their Dutch Delight social night on Monday, the Food Tasting Tour on Tuesday, the 5 Euro burrito plus tequila night and the free walking tour on Wed night! Plus the DAILY happy hour from 7-9pm which includes 1,50 euro beer, wine and shots! We made numerous friends from all over the world while staying here that we appreciate all the kindness everyone has shown us! We even had a few young locals here show us the nightlife! Because we stayed in a private room, we received the upgraded breakfast for each night we stayed there. The breakfast was your basic coffee, tea, toast and cereal. Pretty typical but if you are hungry, the local market is just a block away. We also took advantage of the full kitchen in the basement so save some money. Laundry is available for YOU to use for 5 euros (you do your own) and it includes detergent. All the staff here are super friendly and helpful! I love that they too are social and participate in the activities to make us feel comfortable! Although everyone was great, the two that stood out the most for us was Angela and Carlos! Angela especially, was one of the nicest person I have ever met! When she checked us in, she gave us so much information about the city, what to do, where to go...etc. She also showed us how to play Sjoelen, a dutch shuffleboard type game, during Dutch Delight night, which was such a great way to start our stay here in Rotterdam! We also met one of the owners during the Food Walking tour and she was just the sweetest person! Always smiling and gave us so much information and history about this amazing city! I highly recommend staying here if you want to stay at a comfortable and clean room and if you want to meet some amazing people!

On this visit, I chose Cocomama for part of the trip. Cocomama is close to Fredericksplein, which is the main artery for some hip places you'll want to go. It is near the city centre, but not too close, otherwise it gets tacky. The ladies at the front desk are friendly and helpful. They give you a full tour of the hostel, which was once a brothel. Just my luck... In the basement, there is a nice lounge area with shared kitchen and dining space. Lots of lovely couches to fall asleep on and a beautiful cat to keep you company. There is also a garden and you can go out there from 9AM - 9PM, only cigarette smoking allowed. Tons of books, movies to keep you entertained. You can also play old-school Nintendo. Wow brings back memories. They will also do your laundry for €6. If you don't have a tablet or computer, they can loan you one. Good wifi throughout the hostel. If you arrive before check-in time, you can leave your bag and check-in later, the front desk open 9AM - 9PM. I stayed in a 4 bed coed room aptly named, "The Brothel Room." Beds are comfy and also there are lockers in the room if you need to lock up something. The bathroom is in the room, so not as big of a hassle to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My only gripe is that they don't serve breakfast. It is probably one of the only places I've stayed at in Amsterdam that doesn't have breakfast. Bummer...

The hostel provided a fun environment for our two night stay and we were able to meet people visiting Amsterdam from all over. Unfortunately, the day after we checked out of the hostel my room mate woke up with bed bug bites all over her back and on her face. I understand that this is the risk you take when staying in a hostel, however I always expect for the staff to do thorough examinations of every bed before a new guest checks in. We immediately alerted Coco Mama via email about the bed bug situation. We told them about the time and money that we lost having to dry clean everything we brought into their hostel and asked for them to check the beds we stayed in. I received a response telling me that unfortunately things like this happen in hostels. There was no apology or mention of a partial refund for our stay. I reached out two more times about the situation and inquired about a refund and got no response. I find this to be completely unprofessional and telling of Coco Mama. It's unfortunate that what started out as a great stay ended up costing us time, more money, and a bad case of bed bug bites. I would not recommend staying at this hostel.

We all love those little flaws which make Ani & Haakien so amazing. Just like your home this hostel feels right. Nothing is too over designed and everything is where it should be. With just over 50 beds it also is not too crowded or cramped. Collaboration with the locals is the key to making this place even better. Man met Bril Koffie provides fresh coffee, Bored to Death book club installed a free library and local artists decorate the rooms with uniquely designed furniture. Every now and again they host musicians and they even have a yoga group. Ever so close to Rotterdam Central Station so you don't have to take your big backpacks all over town. I stayed here by myself for a bit more than 2 weeks in two different top "hubs" and I really liked…read moreit! The hubs are very cozy and comfortable. There is plenty of space for luggage and to spread your stuff out, at least as one person. Hangers and hooks are embedded in the room, along with a number of shelves that double as steps. Each guest even gets their own snazzy black robe to wear to the nearby shower room which has plenty of water pressure, plus endless hot water and groovy music. Each hub is equipped with four, count them, four power sources. Two are conveniently located on either side of the head-end of the bed each with two USB charging ports as well. As someone who gets deeply annoyed at hotels/hostels, especially new ones, with limited/poorly accessible power outlets this was very comforting. The lighting in the hubs is controlled by buttons in the room and for even more control you can use the CityHub app which lets your control the brightness and colors of the RGB light strips that run alongside the bed. The light strips also double as a sturdy bedside shelf. The room features a window with blinds that can be opened and closed for privacy. Unfortunately, they do not black out the hallway lights completely so bring a sleeping mask if that is important to you. Sound isolation in the hub is very good but not 100%. You may also feel vibrations from adjacent hubs from time to time but this never was so much as to bother me. Compared to an open hostel bunk all of these issues were completely negligible to be. Of course, the beds are spacious and comfortable. There is no hub-by-hub temperature control but I never found my hubs to be too hot or cold. But I saw the staff lend out a fan at no extra charge to someone who found the room too hot. The lobby/common area is very cool. While check-in/check-out are automated by tablets, there is always a "CityHost" on staff almost casually blending into the background who is there to help or give advice and provide that human element despite all the technology. Each guest gets an elastic wristband at check-in which they use to access their hub as well as the building when it gets late. The wristband also doubles as the sole payment method for the impressive number of options for snacks, drinks, and "items you forgot at home" available in vending machines and electronic drink dispensers. That means you can pour yourself a pint of Heineken or a glass of wine, and even make yourself a gin & tonic with a shot from the liquor bar. An espresso coffee machine and an array of Pukka teas are also available. As well as limited refrigerator and cupboard space for longer-term guests, and a hot water pitcher and microwave. The common area seating is definitely a bit small and has a largely library vibe with people working at laptops and largely keeping to themselves. But it also includes a large corner of very spacious electronic lockers that are free to use before check-in and after check-out. These also work with the wristband! I haven't even talked about the location yet which is right at the end of the very popular Witte de Withstraat. Lots of good vibes, great restaurants, and bars within short walking distance not to mention the core sights to see in Rotterdam. The Metro is very close and the Centraal train station about a 10-minute walk down the street. My biggest complaint was that the wifi in the hubs was not very fast and I often had trouble streaming movies on it. Hoping this is something they can fix. Significant discounts are available, as of writing this, if you book a stay for at least 7 days. I paid 57€ per night for 1 person which further sweetened the pot of my already excellent experience!

When the offer on Hostelworld said if you wanted a room alone you had to book all 4 beds. They waited until we got there 2 days later to tell us we would all be split up in several rooms. This location is right in the heart of all the action, and every major spot to hit within the city is within walking distance or a quick tram ride away. I had never stayed in a hostel before, so I was a bit nervous based on stories from friends in other crowded cities. The check-in process was very easy. I booked through hostelworld and they just needed a passport to verify, then gave me the entrance key, house rules, and directions to my room. I stayed in a co-ed room with about 20 other people. Each bed was in bunk form with clean sheets and pillows with plenty of secure space to keep luggage underneath and an outlet to charge devices on the wall. The showers were clean and I felt like I had privacy while changing as well. The atmosphere at night was awesome. During my first night, I met four people each from a different area of the United States/England and we ended up bar hopping together. What an experience that was! The nightly rates are only a few more bucks than other similar ones, but I can assure you that they do not have the energy like the downtown Flying Pig does!

The shared dorms are genuinely like a prison - metal bunk beds with metal cubbies underneath, no privacy at all, and at night you can hear EVERYTHING. Every little movement or breath from yourself and your roommates (not to mention the hallway and lobby, due to a complete lack of insulation) is amplified and echoes because everything in this room is metal, cold and hard. The vibes in the room are terrible and that alone makes me want to never return, but the worst part was the shower. The faucet in the shower is a button that, when pressed, sprays water at maximum pressure (seriously extreme, hard water pressure) for about 30 seconds and then shuts off. If you enjoy a relaxing shower like I do, avoid this hostel. If you enjoy the feeling of being blasted with water so hard that it stuns you a bit and hurts, then I supposed you'd love it. The degree to which this hostel sucked was, in a word, inexcusable. I would not stay here again if they paid me.

The worst hostel in Europe?…read more I don't know where those people were staying but I can tell you a few stories about bad hostels. Hans Brinker is not that bad and with the price your paying, to stay at a prime location this is most definitely a 5 star stay! You get what you pay for after all! The bunks don't have ladders, that was problematic at 4am I can tell you. There is a smell of the ganja, despite the 'no dope' signs. The clientele won't be getting into any country clubs anytime soon. There's you, and 500 odd other people staying there so check in and check out requires patience (especially the 10 am checkout!) However, breakfast is included. There's free wifi. There's a nightclub in the hostel. There's drinks promotions constantly. The staff are lovely despite putting up with tourists in Amsterdam all day (if you get me). You are unbelievably central when you stay here. There's lovely restaurants right outside the door. The rooms are safe and ensuite (ensuite people!) and the beds are halfway decent. There's lockers in the rooms, free of charge. It's reasonably quiet at night (as everyone who's still awake is in the nightclub). Everyone staying seems friendly. I would definitely stay again, not even one naked person accosted me (seriously, I have lots of stories about bad hostels....)
