It opened only two months ago, but already feels warm and established. French singers from the 1930-1940s provide musical ambience. Food is delicious. We had a very fresh take on a chicken Caesar salad. I had a delicious steak Bavette with Gorgonzola sauce. Husband and wife team from Spain & France run the restaurant. Strikes a nice balance of intimate without being stuffy.

(A really nice mozzarella that tasted as mozzarella instead of solidified milk), and a steak tartare among others. Then the main course arrived. I had a rack of lamb that was tender, juicy and full of flavour. With the lamb came green asparagus and French fries. It was a good portion size. My wife had a vegetable soufflé. At her second bite she noticed a very salty taste. After notifying the (very friendly) staff her plate went back in the kitchen. A minute later the waitress returned with apologies. She offered my wife a new main course (of her choice) and offered me a new course as well so we could dine together. Great service! We will definitely be back here. Great place, great food and perfect service!

Wow I am surprised no reviews of Abby's as it is consistently recommended by the staff at the…read moreAmrath as the best location for dining in Alkmaar. Of course this recommendation is specifically why I have avoided Abby's (yes I know makes no sense). But a work colleague loves Abby's..so that is where I ended up.. I should have listened to the staff alot sooner..great spot for a meal. Started off with a Brand UP at the bar as the table for five was cleaned. Sat down and was promptly asked if we wanted a starter (Yes please two mixed starters for the table) and another drink (not yet). The reason I wish I had tried this location earlier was the daily fish special as well as some delicious items on the standard menu card. I went with the swordfish special (Zwaardvis) with tabbouleh salad and was very pleased. Companions had the tuna special (Tonjin) and a pasta and seafood item from the menu card (large pasta shells, swordfish, tuna, mussels and shrimp. I also added a savughion blanc to my meal. Dessert cards were promptly delivered post dinner and we discussed options (well they discussed I had my eye on a Highland Park single malt). They only bump in the otherwise perfect evening was a long delay from menu card delivery and return for our order (maybe 10 minutes). But it was very busy and this delay is so minor when compared to other restaurants I have visited. So Kudos to Abby's and I will certainly return on my next trip!
